Now all I hear about Di Stefano is that his voice had pretty much been ruined by the late 1960s. This rendition of Core N'Grato sounds pretty good to me. He can still hit very good pianissimos. I have heard that even in the late 1960's Di Stefano would have that old Di Stefano magic and give a great performance.

Don't like it. Weak voice, climbing with difficulty. At 47, his voice should have retained great power and beauty. This rendition is disappointing to me. Perhaps I don't know music.
Eleanor yes you dont know......pipo is biggest lyric tenor ever.....in 68 his voice was not in his prime....but no matter his voice is always sun.....God haven voice....his emotion his pianissimo..... If you dont know hear this then you dont know anything...
I love his artistry but much of what he is doing is musically borderline. His vocal line is blown out. Lower tones are dirty and he carries the dirt into his middle. At birth gorgeous...but at best way past his prime. Jerry Hadley in 1984 gives a better idea of perhaps what di Stefano could have sounded like with a technique. Gigli had better pianissimi as well. A nice rendition by Maestro DiStefano after years of booze, smoking and gambling. Sometimes he gets a phrase so right' but one has to run the music through his interpretive grinder to get to the juice. A selfish singer.
