I feel like another kind thing I've done was keep the door closed whenever I entered the building. Honestly such an underrated thing to do. It's really dusty where we are, to keep the inside of our building nice and clean, I'd make sure I close the entrance door every time I enter, so all of our neighbors can enter their flats in the building happy that it's clean! Take care of property people!

Keep your chin up hun, we all struggle with life we just gotta pull this through before and make it till the end of the year. Wish I had advice on your homeschooling. My most recent act of kindness was yesterday when me and my grandad cleaned up our neighbors pipes, all leaky and damaging everything and creating mould. We fixed up the plants too, it was a good day.

I didn't realize how much I missed your updates. We are struggling with homeschooling this year too. This is our third year (preschool, kindergarten, and now first grade) and I've lost all my confidence so I hear you on that. As for what nice thing I've done? I haven't rolled my eyes at anyone at work 🤣 I work in a very busy ER and it's rough to not do that. Honestly I don't do much nice things because work saps me of anything in my kindness bucket.

Thankfully, we are lucky enough that the preschool is truly and extension of our home. So he is getting his fill of preschool fun and i'm homeschooling the older two. My kindness act is to myself. eeek! I'm trying to learn to give myself more grace and release some of my self-imposed stresses so, I can be a better person to my kids. (year 6 of homeschooling)

Thank you for sharing your generosity ma'am. Afternoon, me and colleague walked out to grab lunch from near by fast food centre. Then we saw an old granny, not ever aware of who she is was lying on the shade of a tree nearby. We could not control ourselves. Went near by her and got to know that she was damn too hungry. Me and my friend ran towards the fast food centre, picked up some food for her and handed it over to her. She wasn't even able to lift her hand to taste the food. We took her and made her lean towards our shoulder and started feeding her. We could see just tears rolling out from her eyes, we felt really bad. She was little OK now after having some food. She blessed us. We were really touched. We got back to work. We were discussing on how to help this granny, finally decided to find a place for her shelter near by. Evening when we came out we couldn't see her, she was gone!!! We couldn't even understand what had happened to her. Waiting to spot get again…

I actually do kind things every day as a home health speech pathologist. Some of my patients have Dysphagia , meaning they have problems swallowing, and require food texture modifications so food does not go into their lungs. This is also known as aspiration and can cause pneumonia and ultimately death if not treated. Some patients require “Thick it “ or “Simply thick” powder or gels to thicken their liquids to prevent aspiration. A lot of these patients do not drive. Most do not have extra money to buy a thickening gel or powder for their liquids. I purchase and store huge, 64 oz containers of “Thick it” powder in my trunk. I buy them for $14.86 each at the Costco Pharmacy in separate white bags. When I know my patients are noncompliant, I always freely provide it for them so they don’t aspirate. They are always very grateful. Then when they realize it helps them to stay hydrated without choking, coughing or becoming gurgly. It also motivates them to do their tongue base, pharyngeal and laryngeal isometric swallowing exercises so they can become stronger and drink thin liquids again. I think it’s pretty kind that I have never asked for reimbursement, which I probably would never get anyway.

My elderly aunt began losing her sight to cataracts a few years ago. Unfortunately in her area there was a 6 month waiting list to have cataract surgery. We talked often on the phone so I knew that she was starting to get depressed at her shrinking world. She could no longer drive and had to take taxis when she wanted to go out anywhere. Her confidence fell and she went out less and less. None of her children had the money to give her to have the operation done privately. About 10 years previously my mother had had the operation on both her eyes so I had a fair idea of the cost and scope of the operation. I knew what a huge difference it had made to her life to get her sight back. I felt that my mother would have wanted me to help her sister out. I called my aunt and asked if she would accept the money from me to have the operation, on behalf of my mother. At first she refused but I talked her into it. She had the operation 4 weeks later and hasn't looked (sorry for the pun!) back since.

@@ourunrulynest9568 oh but have you tried ?? Most things are actually rather easy once you get into it. I've only just started doing wallets and purses as an extension to the Viking market stall we started last year as part of our year of Viking and Norse studies. Most of the handcrafts I do stemmed from not being able to afford the things I wanted to buy - so I went about making it myself, as a bonus it helps direct my sensory and art needs, as a more recent negative it often flares my autoimmune issues due to the repetitive nature of crafting - but I love the idea of art, in a practical form, handmade by me, that they will use on a daily basis.

The teacher or the class (my "mentor") said that the girl's mom was apparently rather neglectful and didn't seem to be buying new shoes, so I took it on myself to go out and buy the girl two new pairs of shoes, leaving them in her locker so that she wouldn't know it was me.

My mother doesn't have too much money, but every time she stops by she gives me some. When she's not looking, I slip it into one of the inside corners of her purse. She usually ends up calling me all excited that she found money she didn't know she had.

I had a friend applying to some association she needed to be a part of to get a job in her field. She said the application cost $380 that she didn't have, so she'd have to wait another year before applying. I put $380 cash in an envelope in her mailbox. She never mentioned it, so I hope she got it...

I helped a grandma in the market move her cart and take her groceries to her car. Honestly I have no idea why someone this old is doing her own shopping and driving still, it really concerned me. I hope she made it home safely. I still think of her from time to time, she was so sweet.

My wife and I went on a year long road trip once our kids were out of the house and hit every state from Maine to California along the way. During that time we saw alot of homeless folks hanging out around truckstops and rest areas. One morning early we were in Kansas . My wife was in the back catching a few more hours of shut eye before we headed down the road again. So I got bored sitting in the front by myself and went to use the bathroom and explore the rest area. As I went out back and around a corner I saw a women in her early 60s laying on a towel with no pillow huddled with scraggly old blanket across her. Dirty bare feet stuck out from under that cover. I was so sad seeing her there and didn't want to wake her up not knowing what she'd been through that day that brought her there. I ran to our truck and got out two pillows and a big warm blanket from the back. With a box of cereal and a thermos of milk tucked under one arm and blanket and pillows in the other I tumbled out of the truck and back to the lady. She was still fast asleep. I laid the blanket over her carefully covering her bare feet and left the pillows and snack next to her head. I said a quick prayer and bounded back to the truck. I woke my wife up and we headed back down the road. I never got to talk to her. I wanted to do more. I wished I could hear her story . I often still think of her and wonder what she must have thought when she woke up but I'm sure she was happy someone had been kind to her that day. And I was blessed too with that little gesture It felt so good to be kind for no reason.

it was a Tuesday morning and I’m on my way to work. I was living in a major metropolitan area, so public transportation was the choice of commute. In this case an elevated electric train/subway (google it if you have to) is the best way. It’s the middle of spring during morning rush, so you can imagine how crowded the train cars are…pretty much packed to the gills. Adults going to work, children going to school, loud music, chatter, etc. the only constant is the ever present “public cell phone gazing” which…even back then…had become the norm of our society. I’m looking around the train car trying to eye cute women for a signal to hit on and make my morning and I notice an elderly lady standing in the aisle holding on to the rail. She looked frail and lost, she had on this heavy, red winter coat and a spring straw hat with flowers adorning the brim. Not necessarily a fashion statement. She had to be in her late seventies and definitely looked like a fish out of water with this coat on near the end of April and this blank stare on her face. More of a gaze…but I don’t know…I think maybe she’s off her meds or something. I make a minor note and go back the morning routine of head down waiting for my stop. We get to the business district and as usual all hell breaks loose, Throngs of people enter and leave the cars during a rapid, multiple stop journey through this thoroughfare of the central working district. If you’ve never been in a situation like this, I can tell you it’s massive. Waves of humanity…one stop after another…crush against door as they open and literally throngs of people three and four deep squeeze through small openings carelessly and in a rush. It reminds me of a stock yard at a meat processing plant when the doors to the processing factory open and the cattle are shoved in…except we willingly go to our destiny. I get ready for the next stop. I’m sardined (…the best way I can put it) through, and I feel someone grab and pull my left shoulder back and I hear a yell. I turn around as I exit the door of the train car, look back and I see it was this lady. In the throws of people leaving she got caught up in the wash, her foot slipped and she fell in the space between the train car and the platform. Her top half above the platform, her bottom half stuck. I fight over people to reach down. I realize it’s seconds until the door closes so I brace myself against the door so it won’t. It doesn’t but it’s pushing against me and I’m in an awkward position. I yell out for someone to hold the door open, and it seemingly falls on deaf ears. She’s crying for help, the door’s banging on me, I’m trying to get her out and it’s not happening so far. People are still moving to and from the car and this makes it even more awkward. She’s pleading for help and I’m holding on as much as I can. All of a sudden, another man walks up and grabs her on one side which frees me up to take the other. He straddles the door on his side so both of us are blocking the doors from closing. We look into each other’s eyes and I say, “On three”. “ONE…TWO….THREE!” We both yank as hard as we can and we pull her out. One of her shoes falls off. apparently that was the problem. She was struggling to keep her shoes from slipping off her feet, down to the tracks and ultimately thirty feet to street level below. We pull her out, the doors close and the train is on it’s way. We walk her over to a bench and sit her down. She asks, ”What about my shoe? What about my shoe…I have only one shoe now!” We look at each other like “…really!?!?” I tell her, “Ma’am…you sit here and I’ll tell the ticket agent on my way out. They’ll come and should help you with your shoe….OK?” “OK…” I look at the other guy, he looks at me, we shake hands, check our watches and we both rush on our way because we’re now late for work.

On the homeschooling front less is often so much more - it's never too late to come back and do some more deschooling, or implement 3 or 4 day weeks, or half days = over the years we've tended more to just living an educational life, we do "something" every day, read every day, watch documentaries every day but it may be days between something curriculum like, often a too structured heavy curriculum based is the poison to the learning. I let my son (the kids when they were all home) pick a core theme for the year and base all learning around that core theme, they are much more into their education when they are choosing its direction = like they will if they choose to go to uni, they will have a core focus for their longterm studies.

@@ourunrulynest9568 has she got particular interests that you could create a curriculum around ?

I’ve been thinking about this! She has a love of dance and music. She has a natural curiosity for life and travel. I’m trying to relate topics of learning to her interests to keep her more relaxed and focused on enjoying herself. So far this is what *is* working in our homeschool. I need to try to take it further as these are the parts of school she doesn’t fight! I struggle with the creativity it takes at times just because of how high needs my son is. It’s difficult to juggle both and to do it well.

The bible admonishes the Hebrew people to leave a certain portion of their fields uncut and to not pick up the wheat that fell as they were gather it. This was specifically so people without could glean this for themselves. So, from time to time, when I used to do laundry at a local downtown laundry, I used to leave some quarters in the coin changer or just drop some on the floor.
