Giving a $400,000 EV Truck a Lift!

One of our longtime customers demoed an Orange EV electric yard truck to see its potential for future fleet purchases. The transport company came to pick the truck back up, and take it to its next destination. While loading the truck, the ramp kicked out causing the EV truck to bottom out on the trailer. We brought the rotator in and used our new ‪@BaileysTowingAccessoriesInc‬ slings to get the EV truck back on the trailer.

Some of the older pre-emission yard trucks sure are working machines! Can't tell you how many times we have towed newer ones for emission / de-rated engine issues. Will be interesting to see how the electric ones perform once they see some age.

I'm going to say that be being an EV, that yard truck is probably heavier than what one would initially guess. You should have made a content with that. Although, I suppose somebody could just look that up :)

There is an added sense of urgency when you have a storm closing in on you! Those slings are quite handy beats a chain any day! Take care WG!

Surprisingly, it didn't really rain at all... ended up blowing around us. We use slings any time we can over chain, and these slings so far seem to be superior to any other one we have tried!

In the seventies, in the USAF, we called these yard hustler. Very handy. Really enjoy the videos.

I’ve hauled those orange Evs before. I have a special landoll forklift rgn with the power ramp on the front. Makes those a breeze. Gotta wonder did they not consider ease of transportation when designing those. Really limits who can actually haul them. A trailer like mine or a paver style rgn is about the only thing. Typically traveling axle landoll would pick them up but you’d be over height during transport. Another drawback is they weigh a lot. You can’t haul two on an rgn cause you’ll be over 80k gross with a divisible load. They weighed something around 19k.

We have hauled the diesel ones on our traveling axle Landoll, and the top of the roof is right at legal height... but we usually would have to unbolt the spot light and/or beacon off the roof, and make sure the stack did not stick above the roof height. At 19K that certainly is quite a bit heavier than the standard yard trucks!

Thanks! It's an NRC Industries 50 ton sliding rotator. Our company has been using their products for the last 30+ years, and their slider system is a game changer!

Why did you just use the under reach and pick it up and extend out to get it back on the trailer

The ramps were wedged under the wheels, so maybe it could have been done that way with the under reach at full extension once picked....mostly, we didn't want to take any possibility at scratching any of the rear end.

I’ve read that electric semis are going to be so heavy due to their massive batteries that they’ll really be destructive to our roads. I would imagine it will really change the dynamics on your business too?

Surprisingly, we haven't had to deal with too many battery powered vehicles yet. Of the few that we have, can't say that it's something that we look forward to. From the recovery side of it, it isn't just simply pulling a battery cable off to de-power a vehicle now. It's just like everything though, we will have to learn it to adapt to the changing industry.

The maximum allowed weight for EV semis is 82k lbs or 41 tons. A regular diesel truck's max weight is 40 tons.

No selling out on our end! We're taking delivery of our largest truck to date in a few short months. And, if we sold out, we wouldn't be able to keep making RU-vid videos about towing/recovery for you to watch 😂
