Great video! I noticed you didn’t put any mortar on the top of the block window, is that not needed? Or did you put sealant to fill that small gap? Thanks
Alpha Lima 3000 I used sealant against the top where it met against the wood. It’s been a few years now, and none of the windows are having any problems.
So you keep your existing "Curb" and just set the mortar on top pf that? I have nice looking curbs now with wood frame old hopper windows i am planning on replacing and ordered the windows to fit with existing curb. My rough opening from Sill plate to top of curb was 18.5" X 32" Wide... I ordered 31 X 17.25 windows but have seen videos with some saying to remove the curb. Any issues installing onto existing curb? I see it's been 6 years.
This is exactly what I'm preparing to do but I did not account for the 1 1/2 wood frame removal, how thick can you go with the mortar ? Or should I add a cement block or brick under the window before I set it with mortar?
I know I’m late but someone please help! If my rough opening is approximately 32 1/4 wide by 14 in tall can I use a 31x 13.5 pre made glass block window? Thanks!!
Yes, you can fill that gap, just don’t mix too thin and it will stay. I used wood wedges to hold mine in place and you can see it’s at least an inch filled.
I used this stuff www.lowes.com/pd/Lexel-10-5-fl-oz-Clear-Paintable-Solvent-Based-Specialty-Caulk/4714985 (Lexel calk) it has been working good the last couple of years.
Rich Gunn I don’t recall the exact brand, but it came from Home Depot. And I do not have any cracks after a few years, everything is holding up perfectly.
