Love the glass with the grain tip. Our family of four will be hunting w NL Pure 8x32, Trinovids 10x42, nikon 10x42 range and NL pure 12x42 this year for elk. Mainly lodge pole pine, w transition to alpine and along burn edges. Glassing areas from tripods 200-1000 yards. Is it worth packing in a heavy scope, or will the 12s suffice?
@CliffGray
@CliffGray 2 года назад
Unless it's a unit where you will be trying to do the nitty gritty of judging bulls from a distance, your twelves on a tripod will be fine. You can tell a "nice bull" vs a spike from 1,000+yds with 12s. As my knees have started to fail on me, I almost never pack both big nocs and a scope... I choose one or the other based on what I'm hunting/guiding.

Pinion trees aren't very high up. The hard part of glassing is finding somewhere there is a view of the area you want to glass. The area you may find might require you to move to different spots to be able to see all you want to see. In the pinion country like he is sitting I have seen 7 elk walk behind a pinion tree and completely disappear never to be seen again. I walked to the spot and there was a small draw behind the tree and all those elk walked single file away from me.

What set up for a phone adapter are ya using? Just bought a 85mm razor vortex. Just getting into glassing. Love your info. I think I'd love to be able to attach my phone to it. Any info would be awesome. Thanks!

Hey Cliff What do you use for Bullet drop Data ?? Range finder? with Kestrel or phone app ?
@CliffGray
@CliffGray 2 года назад
I use a basic app on my phone. I print out a small drop chart before each hunt, tape it to my stock.
@kentrush4519

Would you recommend the phone scope attachment for glossing or just use your eyes on the scope
@CliffGray
@CliffGray Год назад
The phone skope is for taking pictures, recording interesting things and wildlife from a distance. It isn’t a very effective tool for actual glassing. It is also handy if you can record shots on animals - that way you can rewatch it and see if it hit/missed.
