For all its faults, Glee did an amazing job at taking existing songs and using them in a completely different context to evoke a new emotional response.
YES, that's what makes me love Glee. They stick up for each other when things get really rough. In S1 for Rachel when VA egged her. In S2 for Kurt when Karofsky was bullying him and when the entire football team slushied Artie. They're like a real family.
I love this cover it gives the song a while new meaning and you can feel and see the emotion I couldn't imagine going to school everyday and dealing with that

In all honesty, I get you have good intentions, but doing things like making a snarky comment reply to a JOKE just makes the trans community look even worse and I really am tired of people who are not even trans making the entire community look like crybabies that find offense with anything and everything. Also, if you found my comment rude, then you must be one extremely fragile and sensitive person cause no rudeness was present in that comment of mine.
I feel the same way, because I am an bisexual trans woman with Down syndrome. My dad had called me, and other trans women an she he, and ignored my, and other trans women’s feelings, and he harbors no shame about it.
It's so lovely that Sam, Jake and Ryder had her back they love unique for who she is, and the vulnerability in her voice is so beautiful it shows that you don't need power to be an amazing singer
I don’t understand how anyone could watch something as emotional as this scene...see the heartbreak and hear the pain in Unique’s voice...and still be anything other than moved and completely supportive. How anyone could just completely ignore the desperate call for love and acceptance from another human being is beyond anything that I will ever be able to understand. I hope that every person who has ever gone through anything like this is able to find happiness, because they are valid and deserve to be loved. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
I'm trans and it got so bad at my school that I stopped going and ended up getting homeschooled. People can be so mean sometimes. But hey, that's life for you.
Although Glee was chaotic and could be a disaster sometimes, it gave us scenes like this. The ones I can come back to and cry to when I need someone to relate to and nobody in reality will listen to me. I love this show so much for that❤
That's where kids would sneak in ad do the drugs, tho. A few people can ruin it for those who need it. But really, if there was an actual issue at my school, teachers would just let certain kids use the teacher restroom. 🤷♀️
My high school only had 1 set of gendered toilets the rest of the school was unisex toilets and every time I tell people (particularly older people) they get all whaaat but what about this this and this and I’m like no in all the years before I was there the years I was there and the years since there has never been a single issue with them at first I thought it was weird but by like a month in the idea of gendering toilets seemed idiotic like we all pee we all poop that’s what toilets are for it literally doesn’t matter
Wit Beyond Measure We’re they single stall unisex bathrooms? I don’t think it would be legal in most states to have a bathroom with boys and girls in there at the same time. I would actually feel really awkward if we all were in one bathroom I’m just shy I guess.

I had to do that. I really loved my ex girlfriend (and still do love her), but while I have depression and an eating disorder that both go on and off, she has severe depression, severe anxiety, complex PTSD, and bulimia. She thought she was healing, but she really wasn't. She was still using me as her unpaid therapist because I'm a sensitive person. And don't get me wrong, I loved helping her, but it was so extremely draining and triggering to be around her and talk to her. So I had to let it go. My anorexia has gotten worse since we broke up last week, because I'm ashamed of not being able to help her. I know there was nothing I could do. It just hurts that I couldn't help her.
As a trans person this means so much to me. We see trans people wishing we were born in the body we wanted but you hardly see representation for begging in the middle of the night to whatever god will listen to make us cis so we wouldn’t have to go through this
The 12 year old child of a friend is transgender. She gets nothing but support from me. Would that all of her family could be half as understanding and accepting.
People shouldn't have to deal with stuff like this. People need to get over their bullshit and let people live the way they want. People should feel comfortable with their own bodies and be able to live free and be themselves enough in the world!

Teenage Girl your gender has nothing to do with your feelings. It's in the chromosomes and between the legs not between the ears if you were born with a dick and balls you're a boy not girl and that's that if you were born with a pussy and a uterus along with phelopian tubes and ovaries you're not a boy you're a girl. If he was found dead his autopsy report would come back as male not female he's a boy.
The thing is...it's actually not uncommon. Members of the LGBT community (ESPECIALLY at that age and even more so trans people, who struggle to 'hide in plain sight') often feel like there is no place in the world where they truly fit and have been mocked, bullied, shunned and even assaulted so often that they no longer have the confidence to keep looking for that place. And then there's the internet, a place where anyone can be anything, where (in this case) with just a few clicks Unique could be treated as the woman she longed to be recognised as and experience that without fear of judgement, sympathy or rejection, probably for the first time in her life. I don't agree that the story arc made her less iconic, if anything it made her more real - it's easy to stick a character of any minority into a show and portray them as a flawless example that has to endure the ignorance and mistakes of the rest of the world, what's much harder is to create a character who shows the confusion, desperation and need to be accepted that many minorities have, including the mistakes made as a result of that. Showing her in this way highlights the damage that societal rejection can do and provides a lot of similarly lost trans people with a character that they can identify with and learn from, even when that's a more uncomfortable process than just "Be yourself!". Portraying all LGBT characters as flawless bastions of morality and self confidence is no more realistic (and barely more beneficial) than portraying them all as depraved, uncontrollable perverts which need medicating into oblivion. Similarly, Kurt is a wonderful character, but in the earlier seasons where he's still working out his place in the world, struggles to accept that Finn doesn't share his sexuality and just isn't interested and ends up hovering around him and trying to change him in what's pretty clearly an unhealthy and unwelcome crush which makes Finn, an otherwise generally accepting and supportive guy, uncomfortable with him (and could potentially start to make him uncomfortable with gay men in general, though it doesn't). Kurt later learns to accept that all Finn can offer him is friendship and moves on, with them both having learned some things and becoming better people because of it. Not to compare the two directly, but look at the portrayal of mental health issues in many shows - so often you see characters that are 'depressed' and have a story arc which involves them discovering the joy of the world and getting substantially/fully better, while making at best token references to the days they can't bring themselves to interact with the world, or the times they push people away (and succeed in doing so), let alone addressing that (even as they make valuable contributions to the world) they feel utterly worthless. Or, worse yet, the "few episodes long" cases of 'serious depression'/'trauma' where a character becomes deeply damaged and then gets better before there's a risk it might bore some people. Apologies for the very long comment, but I think the topic's important enough to warrant one.
@@bigred2493 The actor who plays her was born male and identifies as non-binary, if that's what you mean. If you're confused about the concept of transgender people: They are a person who is biologically male/female but feels like they are the opposite gender, often strongly enough that they hate their masculine/feminine traits and can become deeply unhappy if they are not allowed to take on traits of the opposite gender. There's a lot of argument about it but at it's most simple it comes down to this: If you can give someone a fulfilling and happy life by using a different gender pronoun to the one your mind instinctively reaches for and accepting that their desire to look (and possibly transition entirely to) male/female, why bother insisting on not doing it and making them feel awful? In my opinion it's not really about agreeing or disagreeing with how they feel, it's about accepting that acknowledging how they feel hurts absolutely nobody and refusing to acknowledge it can hurt them, deeply. Um no. Watch that episode properly. Will was helping Unique. The 'use the faculty bathroom' was his idea in the first place. If Will didn't follow Sue's deal, Unique just wouldn't get a key of her own. She could've always used Will's key. Will had literally told her that 'whenever nature calls you find me' or something like that. He was ready to escort her to the bathroom everytime. How is that not helping Unique? Hating Will Schuester is so trendy now people choose to ignore canon material from the show to further their biases

The only problem with letting whoever go into whatever bathroom, creepy dudes can simply say "oh im a girl" and go into the women's bathroom which understandably makes most girls feel uncomfortable.

Ellebelle we’re not letting “transgenders go in whatever bathroom they want” we’re letting them go in the bathroom of their gender which isnt a problem for a cisgendered person so it shouldn’t be a problem for them. if they’re a trans boy then they’re a boy, if they’re a trans girl they are a girl and they shouldn’t be treated any differently. and these changes arent going to further enable creepy men or women (people tend to forget that women can also do this type of stuff) from going into the opposite genders bathroom. if they are really that creepy and perverted then they would probably have done/ been doing it anyways.

This really moved me. As a fat gay teenager, growing up with other teens is a struggle. I have been bullied for being myself. They see me like i am not normal. Transgender boys are allowed in the girls bathroom at my school. And none of them ever cause any trouble, it's a shame that the bathroom they feel comfortable is ruined for all of them due to fear, although reasonably and very much possible fear, of them attacking or hurting other female's

I don't think like he was a complete homophobe, like in the beggining YES, he was, but as the show went on he really evolved and tried to understand Unique's truth, like in this scene when he kind of realised how that affected a person close to him, and stud for her, over his own conception/prejudice
With Ryder it was ignorance but as he knew her more he saw how much struggles and pain she has just trying to be her self that would change most people to see what's right ..x x
You know, people can learn and grow. They can change. I didn’t remotely understand what being Trans was like until my best friend came out. I was ignorant. I made the jokes. Then I decided that being ignorant wasn’t how I wanted to be. Stop immediately excluding people because of how they were. Educate, include. Prove that the idea of equality and acceptance isn’t a damn platitude.

Re-watching all my favorite songs. I never cared for their push to focus so many of the storylines on new characters towards the end, but it was worth it for this performance alone. It has always stuck with me and in my opinion was the most powerful performance of the entire show. So incredibly moving.
