That is EXACTLY what he does. What a great way to articulate it. I attended a show last month and it blew my mind to the point of tears -- big, great, sorrowful tears -- and it was a catharsis of the best kind. What beauty, grace, and POETRY.
As a man, I can confirm he's not only singing about a breakup. He's also portraying how and what men feel during a breakup. Crushing and overwhelming loss. Not many songs have the ability, to transfer you back to the emotions felt at a particular time. This song, unfortunately has that innate ability, beautifully written and magically performed.
I saw him in Chicago front row, opening for Eddie Vedder, and half through this song, he started crying. One of the most spiritual things I've ever seen. One of the most underrated songwriters of this generation.
Oh my god this is amazing. I just feel the extreme emotion because that's amazing because glen hansard sings with extreme passion which is what I can only listen to. Glen hansard is better than all the other singers out in the world. Nobody is as good as glen hansard because he's simply the best he's better than all the rest
Glen you truly are mind blowing. This song freezes me in a place I once was and it just is fantastic mate. credit to you Glen you are right up there for me with so many of your wonderful songs. Poetry in motion.
Woo! I saw him for the first time in Once. A wonderful, moving film with wonderful, moving music. I have the soundtrack and get chills every time on a lot of the tracks.
i’m crying in the club rn jk i’m in quarantine because of corona but when i was little me and my family went to see once in the theatre i loved it so much i forced my family to come with me to see it again. I used to cry my eyes out listening to this song lmao
I can't wait forever is all that you said Before you stood up And you won't disappoint me I can do that myself But I'm glad that you've come Now if you don't mind Leave, leave, And free yourself at the same time Leave, leave I don't understand, you've already gone And I hope you feel better Now that it's out What took you so long And the truth has a habit Of falling out of your mouth But now that it's come If you don't mind Leave, leave And please yourself at the same time Leave, leave, Let go of my hand You said what you have to now Leave, leave Let go of my hand You said what you came to now Leave, leave Leave, leave Let go of my hand You said what you have to now Leave, leave..
+Mitch Barron It's also part of the character of the Guy in Once, the musical that it's from. (that's literally his name in the program, they never did names). At the beginning of the show, he comes into a bar a couple months after his girlfriend breaks his heart and leaves for New York, and his guitar is all scratched up as if he's been killing his guitar by strumming and singing since music is his escape from the emotions. That's also generally what the song is about. Especially at the end of the song, he's starting to lose control of his ability to think straight and in the show, at the end of this song he breaks down crying.
Again and again, that feel.. I'm not alone, there's no leave about n my relationship but that feel... ps1: check his guitar. natural... ps2: closed eyes = feel (meant)
