Such a rarity. An interviewer who asks pertinent informed questions and then lets the interviewee actually answer them without interrupting. Bravo.

Agree entirely, he allowed Glenn to open up in a natural way without interruption. A joy to watch.

Glen is a great bloke - worst thing to ever happen to the Pistols was that he left.

I do agree. Especially if we're talking about the actual music and the Pistols as a band because we probably would've got more Sex Pistols songs and maybe another studio album or two but at the same time Sid joining the Pistols was the best thing that happened to them. The fact that they imploded so quickly and only put out one actual album is in many respects the way it should've been.

@paull.6026 3 года назад
In a way it worked out fine. The Sid era was cool too. Them imploding was a good end. Short, sweet and super intense history that influenced so many for decades to come. Very important band that didn't fizzle and fade away.

@Munro Yeah, but we wouldn't have gotten the amazing early PiL music and that stuff is awesome. As is that whole saga as well.

The WORST thing to happen to them was their 97 reunion tour (and their subsequent tours) They also didn't 'implode'. John quit. The others tried carrying on, but two members had left and it was just a marketable name by then ... and ridiculous to boot

You are so right. Steve ,John and Paul were just as vital but Glen wrote most of the Pistols music.

The evidence is they never did one meaningful musical thing once he was out. It became all image.

I will state it here and I think everyone (except maybe Lydon) will agree with me: Glen Matlock was the engine, melodic and chordal, composition-wise (without forgetting his wicked backing vocals), that kept the Pistols together and made them what they were. The proof is in the pudding: after he left, they barely managed to put two songs together, and fell apart rapidly, becoming a joke and a parody. Plus, his driving bass-playing really made them a tour de force live. As much as I admire Lydon’s brain and attitude, the things he said about Matlock through the years, he should be ashamed of himself.....
@MrGiorgioud
@MrGiorgioud 3 года назад
@ldyson22 you are right. But Lydon is and always was extremely intelligent and perceptive, and I think Glen (who is no slouch in the intelligence stakes, in fact McLaren picked him up because he could use his intelligence) would have been comfortable with the intellectual side of the band if Lyndon would have been less egotistical and ....well, less of a dickhead. As he says in a book (I think “England’s dreaming”, but I might be wrong) “imagine being stuck in a van with Rotten”......

Rubbish,Matlock`s career has been totally inconsequential since the Pistols,99.9% of people couldn`t name a single one of his solo records lolol

Right from the horses mouth ,from someone who comes across as just a normal guy who has had an extraordinary career doesn’t try to create headlines If you want to know the real story of the Pistols, Rich Kids and all the people on the periphery Of that scene , background on some of the legends he’s played with this interview tells it all as it was , no bs , from someone who was there at the start and is still at the top of his game .just a great interview

glen deserves his due but a bit disingenuous about the ny dolls, as they released their album in 1973 way before the sex pistols. yes there was cross referencing but the punk sound and look started in new york as marky ramone said.

*I like hearing Glen tell all these little unknown tidbits about London back then. Unfortunately he's leaving one crucial bit of information out of his tales: none of this would've been at all possible without the genius guiding hand, nay Midas Touch, of Paul McCartney (with just a little added stardust from Angie Bowie)*
