So, Tuesday the 24th November at 12 o’clock I meet Glen inside the Worlds End Shop. It’s a lot quieter inside after my other interviews in the street. He tells me the news that the Turkish have just shot down a Russian Bomber over Syria…What a mess…
The particular reason I wanted to interview Glen was because he had worked in the shop for two years starting in 1974 when the shop was transitioning from ‘Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die’ to ‘SEX’ (Glen helped make the pink PVC shop sign) & I wanted to ask him about this pivotal time.
I was sure I’d seen an early photo of Glen in the shop but I seem to have been mistaken.
Of course Glen is better known as the bass player in the early Sex Pistols & is credited with co-writing all but two of the tracks on the album ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’.
So another great privilege for us, Glen Matlock, 19 minutes…Let it roll!

Glen seems like a reasonable guy and down to earth and when he talks to people he treats them with respect.

I saw him playing with 'Dead Men Walking' a few times. A very talented musician, quite unaffected by fame, down to earth, genuine, modest and doesn't run with the crowd.

Just read Glen's book..finished it today..then found this great interview! Nice one!! I was a punk in 77 and saw the Pistols at Brunel University with Sid playing Bass! I also bought a Buffalo Girls skirt that you mum designed!

I'd agree with 'most important shop...still OPEN'... granny takes a trip, Chelsea Drugstore & the Beatles Saville Rd 'apple corps' were all important ...

I find Matlock the most reliable 'for the truth' & without an attitude of the ex pistols

Yes Paul's very 'straight up' but is rarely asked about much..Steves book 'Lonely Boy' is also an excellent read

I grew up in Hammersmith born 66 so I'll have to give his jonseys book a go.

It's a very honest book - much of it is about growing up around there - I was genuinely surprised how good it is -

*Kudos to Matlock for being the FIRST to give out first-hand information on Sex Pistols in his autobiography. There's been a slew of information since, yet people still criticise his book as not being worthwhile enough. Jeeez -- give me a break. Until then it was only 'The Great Rock n Roll Swindle' (McLaren) or Malcolm's story (same as 'Swindle') to go by …*

For most 'Factual Information' I think Glen is very accurate , not just the Pistols stuff but that era. Steve Jones is a natural 'storyteller ' ..but most of his stuff checks out..

That bloke who walked in and then left straight away......he felt very intimidated and I've felt like that going into that shop at times......Bless him. You walk in and it's so small, and the clothes aren't easily accessible to view, you need to rummage a little bit.

Didn't know 'Worlds End shop' was still going ...last time I went in was just after it changed from Seditionaries (1981??) Does it still have the 'backwards clock' outside?

It has to be said tho.that granny takes a trip had some wicked clothes..that era knocks the hippy movement But this be honest...those hendrix military jackets and those strippy bottoms and all that looked great...i see the simplicity and similarities in both movements....wish it was like it today to be fair..England ain't done anything original in music since drum n bass in the late 90s .to me its been one big retro act ever since..bit n bobs come along..but nothing kicks the door down these days..changes every thing and it starts again...just like it did with punk.. the faces was a wicked band. I see Glen play with them with mick out of simply red singing.. was OK great to see Ronnie Wood Tho also
