I grew up in New York with a "Guns Are Evil" family and I had never been exposed to the shooting world. Thank you for your time and effort in explaining proper handling and appreciation and introducing me to my favorite new hobby. I have a job transfer to Texas in April and I cant wait to be in a free state. Keep up the good work.
Sadly, I live in a "guns are evil" country. I wish it was as simple as moving state. Sick of living in Australia where personal protection is not a legitimate reason for owning a firearm. Only place you can shoot a pistol is in a range. For this reason, I would love to live in the US, preferably somewhere like Texas. Lol anybody feel like sponsoring a poor, rights deprived Aussie? 😂
How has it worked out? I'm 15 and live in Missouri I live on 150 acres and shoot when ever the weather will allow (or parents) I hope to be getting a G17 I've been saving up for all summer.
I was the first person in South Carolina to buy a generation 4 Glock , I was told that anyway. I remember buying it in Charleston S.C. and coming strait home and cleaning all that gold lube out while your Glock vids played in the background. I value your content alot.
I traded taurus g2c, 3 12 rs mags, 2 15 rd mags, a we the people holster and 200 RDS for my glock 19 gen 4 thatbhas tritium tru glo xtremes on. It. Upgraded sping and barrel. And SRILLL got the better deal this gun is incredible!!! Bout a gender 5 mag for it looks same fits like a glove I highly recommend this firearm u can just feel the quality when u pull slide back its just smooth and accurate and just all around a bad ass firearm its my new everyday carry
I love how people bash a 9mm now because everyone thinks bigger is better. If you can shoot like this guy, you will have no problems getting the job done.
Lots of benefits to 9mm, and I switched to g19, but doesn't make it equal shot for shot to more powerful calibers. Seems only handgun hunters can wrap their minds around concept
I just acquired my first Glock 19 Gen 4. I shot a buddies during the summer of 2016 and fell in love with a gun but just didn’t have the money for four years and just got my own recently. Even with the factory sites at 50 feet I still can manage 3 inch groups without even really trying. My first handgun was a Smith and Wesson model 59 also a 9 mm and I couldn’t hit the side of a barn at 10 feet with
@xBossAwesomex, I've shot it several times since doing the videos. The only malfunctions I've had were with the early videos. AFter I shoot it some more, I might test it again with whatever the worst / weakest 115 grain 9mm is to see if I can get it to malfunction with some of that stuff. I really don't care, though, if there's an occasional malfunction with the worst, weakest ammo. For the spring to work better with normal powered ammo, I guess it HAS to just barely perform with light stuff.
In my experience people hate on glocks cause they just work. They are the workhorses of law enforcement and many civilians carry them as well cc. I also see that a lot of guys hate and I mean hate that their 3,000 dollar Kimber or their 1,200 dollar Sig is always outperformed by 500 dollar Glocks every time... Plus people just love to hate cause so many people own and like Glocks...
OMG, I just rented a 19 and a 26 today at my range and man am I sold. I absolutely love the G19 and will buy one soon. I really liked everything about it and just loved that trigger... :)
I've put 600 rounds through my "03" sprung G4 G19 and I haven't had a single issue. I've been shooting UMC and WWB 115gr. No cleaning thus far and no issues. It's a case of getting what you pay for. I shoot cheap ammo for practice but I don't expect it to function like ammo that I pay $1 or more a round for. When I put this gun up after a range trip I don't leave a UMC loaded magazine in there. For PD, I use a very hot and capable PD round that will cycle. Keep up the great work Hickok45!
Darin here, I would like to thankyou for influencing my decision to perchance glock 19 [gen 4]. Its wasn't an easy choice for me. I have had the gun for about two weeks and i haven't yet gotten around to shooting it. I shoot a glock 19 once at point blank that was rented. Very dirty and it didn't malfunction once. Its my first pistol and i got it for self defense and sport. i love your work/fun. Thanks again -Darin.
Air Force MP vet, 1982-86, love your channel. Wasn’t a Glock fan till I bought a Gen4 G19, fell in love, perfect size, 100 percent reliable, great trigger. I shoot both eyes open, my local Sheriff is right, if you can shoot, both eyes open you will become an excellent shooter. And I am, not as good as you, but close. Ima marksman with an m16, ak47, and good with an M60,and20mm grenade launcher. Very good with G19 . Glock can for life!!!!
@purkjason , Thanks. I plan to try all the low-end ammo (price-wise), as well as some of the next level ammo. I don't really see much need to spend money on hollow point ammo; we all know Glocks will feed anything. It's the level of power that's needed I'm mostly experimenting with.
@luiskilla91592 , We didn't have a lot of choices since we wanted an HD camera with at least 25X Optical Zoom. The best camera we could find that has that level of optical zoom was the Sony CX 150. Plus, it has some internal flash memory, which makes it nice. it seems to be a good camera thus far. We just started using it. The only reason we were slow to go HD was the fact that we knew we would have to do a MAJOR computer and editing software upgrade. The camera was the easy part. :-)
Im italian, and in italy we can't own automatic guns and we can't shoot in the open like him, we can only watch americans have fun whit guns on youtube, I hate it.
Start a revolution, overthrow the existing government, add an amendment to the new bill of rights guaranteeing your right to keep and bear arms. Or you could just move to a country that has already done that. The revolution part might be difficult without firearms however...
I've watched this video several times; and, I always pick up additional pointers from Hickok45. He is a great voice for the gun-liker community. Thanks Hickok45!
xXGAMING101Xx they’re also affordable and that always comes first with government contractors, but I’m with you. They wouldn’t be so widely known and used if they were duds.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the excellent reviews. Just made it to the range today for the first time in 10 years. I can't remember why I stopped shooting but I missed it. Happy holidays Hickok!
I just picked this up as my first gun. I had watched your videos on these and how highly you recommended them and after shooting their store version in the store today, I knew it was right for me. Thanks for your videos! I may turn into one of those hooked guys and buy more guns later because of it.
Actually, if a person "limp wrists" a semiauto, it can cause the gun to malfunction. The shot that was just taken might go wherever it should have, but the next round is what hangs up the gun. A semiauto in order to function properly depends on the grip's being stabilized. If you could lay a semiauto on the ground and just get it to fire somehow, it would hang up every time because the grip is not stabilized.
@greenteen90 , Sounds like greenteen needs to try some Decafe. :-) So much hate. Calm down and enjoy the holidays, and maybe buy a new Glock. You'll feel more relaxed. :-)
British Forces use the Glock as well, I think the US Army went with a P220. In the UK it replaced the L9A1 (Browning Hi-Power 9mm). It seems a lot more user-friendly. The Police here have been using them for years.
@Betsy Ross 2a Mate thank you for the correction. Do you think the US forces will eventually standardise with their choice of service pistol? I believe the reason all UK forces now use the L131A1 SLP (Glock 17, Self-Loading Pistol) is standardisation and parts commonality. British Police use the Glock 17, and covert/sneaky beaky Police use the subcompact (??) version, The Glock 26 (??) chambered in 9mm.
@londoncarroll , I suppose they are mostly right at the edge on power factor. About any carry ammo is going to be stronger, and this would not be an issue. Guess I could live with one occasionally if I'm saving enough on cheap ammo; however, it would become annoying if it happened very often. I certainly would not shoot a match with anything that was not 100% reliable either.
Thank you Mr. Hickok for getting and testing this Gen.4 out for us. This gun has been on my must-have list for 6 mths. now but the negative reviews has had me purchasing SR9's and SR9c's instead until you received one and tryed it out. Your experience and opinion means a great deal to me. You might as well keep buying the cheap ammo as your tests for this gun continues because with todays economy I'm sure that's what most of us can only afford to buy. Thank You.
Just purchased a Glock 17 gen 4 and a 19 gen 4 and shot the 19 today. All I got to say is what a gun! Very nice trigger and the stock sights are dead on. Feels real good in my hands and break down and cleaning is really too easy. Thanks for the great videos, they really helped me and my son out from decision making, purchase and shooting.
@1962egl , Good point. Yeah, a lot of people talk and talk about the duel recoil spring being the problem, but Glock as definitely established a great track record with duel recoil springs. It's just the strength of the spring that is the problem for some. shooters and some ammo. My guess is that the aftermarket will take care of the issue pretty quickly, if Glock doesn't. There will be springs of every weight imaginable. I've always preferred stock springs, but we'll see how it goes.
Just bought a new Gen 4 19 and ran about 200 rounds of reloads that I bought online through it and it functioned flawlessly. Honestly, from my experience, I've never had a Glock malfunction and I put probably 2-3 thousands rounds though them each year.
I just purchased a 19 gen4 yesterday. I have watched all of your videos on this firearm and I cannot wait to take it to the range tomorrow! Hopefully it will serve me well as I start my first competition ever in the Glock division. I trust everything you review and like. I know that I will be extremely pleased with this pistol. Thank you for taking all of this time to review it.
You'll enjoy that pistol. Good choice on the Gen 4, too. If I were buying a new Glock for myself, it would definitely be a Gen 4, rather than a Gen 5, even if I had to pay more for it.
Excellent firearm, has never never failed shooting any type ammo from the cheapest to expensive! Shot for over a year until I clean it! Alex, retired USMC
wow i bet you got a lot of happy customers putting up all these videos right near christmas, thanks for the entertainment and great guns in the past few weeks hickock45 merry christmas
Hey Hickok! Glad to see you working the Gen4 G19. I really like mine and haven't had any issues with it. Runs like a top...and that's comparing it to my first Gen G19...which, thousands of rounds later, still runs wonderfully.
The Glock19 Gen4 was my first handgun! As a hunter in Germany, i'm limited to two handguns, rifles and shotguns are without ans limit. I like my G19, but today i would buy an Glock chambered in .40 S&W, and a 9mm Conversion Kit for training on the range. My second handgun is a 4" S&W Security Special in .357 Magnum.
I came back to watch this video from nearly 4 yrs ago to remind myself of the problems that the Gen4 G19 went through. These days I believe the gun is very much GTG, but a week ago I decided to run a #3 RSA I took out of my oldest Gen4 G23 in my own Gen4 19, a more recent FDE version. Perhaps because of all of the 40S&W rounds that this particular #3 spring has already seen over the years it's loosened up quite a bit, but the G19 didn't bobble in the 350 rounds I ran through it. Hardly scientific but I still thought it interesting. Shot a variety of 115gr and 124gr rounds, though most are considered hotter (S&B 115gr, Lawman 115gr and 124gr, Federal AE 124gr, Blazer Brass 124gr, HPR 115gr) than the UMC that you were shooting back in this video. A long time ago I personally found that Remington UMC is IMHO one of the lesser ammo types on the market; I've had problems with the stuff in 9mm and 45AUTO in a number of otherwise reliable handguns, including Glocks of multiple generations, 1911s, SIGs, M&Ps and CZs. I know of a customer who had a squib shooting that stuff; fortunately he recognized the problem immediately before squeezing off another shot and thus giving himself a really, REALLY bad day. Seems anything firearms-related tied to Freedom Group or Cerberus Capital these days is suspect. A shame, really. These days the only REAL problem I personally have with current Glocks is with rust, something that in the "good old days" was never an issue with the old, discontinued Tenifer steel treatment they once used. Really dislike having to constantly wipe down my IWB carry G23 nearly every day just to keep the slide from further pitting damage, something I never had to do with my old Gen3 G19 when I carried that one. With the Gen4 G19 in particular, the main problem is supply; I can't find them in any quantity ANYWHERE. No distributor seems to ever have any in stock, and I've had a backlog of customers who've been nagging me to get one (or more) in for them. If you have a reliable contact over at Smyrna, could you tell them to start pumping them out in far greater quantities? They don't seem to listen to dealers and their "gun counter commandos" :D very often, it seems. Maybe a RU-vid 'rock star' might fare better. Much thanks...and keep your excellent vids coming.
Not sure why I've waited all these years to get a G19. Just picked up a used gen 4 and put about 300 rounds through it. Probably my favorite Glock now.
Thanks for this video. It was full of great information. I did not know about the 03 & 04 springs for the Gen 4 Glock 19. Mine is an 03. It started out having several misfeeds with Remington ammo. My wife had more trouble than I did. I just finished an IDPA match with my Gen 4 Glock 19. I ran several different types of ammo. No misfeeds. There could be something to the break-in period for the 03 spring. I also left the Glock lubricant in place at first. Each cleaning removes some of this.
This video made me go it and buy my first 9mm Glock. I have several of their 10mm, .45 Auto, .40, and a .357 Sig...never a problem with any. The Internet made it sound like their Gen4 9mm guns failed every-other shot. Leave it to Hickok to showit like it is. Keep up the god work, man!
thanks hickok. i'm a few days away from buying the glock 19 that i've decided on mostly through info from you, and have been previously set on the gen 3. you've got me re-thinking now. i may hold off to see the extended testing of the gen-4
been watching your videos alot and just recently bought a glock 19 after watching this. its a wonderful gun and i just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make these.
My best friend just got a Gen4 G19 in October. Together we both put about 500 rounds through it, all factory loads. Mostly we fired Federal, Winchester, and Remington 115 grain ammo. No malfunctions at all. I compared it with my Gen3 G19, and there is a noticeable difference in felt recoil and muzzle flip. The grips feel great too.
thanks hickok 45 for the good advice and the encouragement after several hours of your glock love videos to go and buy my first glock 19 , i'm in love with it. thanks man
Thank you Mr Hickok45 for all your work. I never grew up with anyone to teach me about this amazing world. I'm going to purchase my very first gun pretty soon. I'll keep watching your videos and continue learning. thank you again
I've owned my gen 4 Glock since the ending beginning of 2012-2013 only fired a few hundred rounds thus far, but zero hiccups! I keep 6 fifteen rd mags loaded with a mixture of federal hst 147 grain rds in five of those mags and in one I keep federal hydro shok in 124 grain as well as two 33rd factory Glock mag one filled with hornady critical defense 115 grain and the other if more federal hst 147 grain. best setup ever
My duty weapon is the Glock 19 the only problem I ever had was the shortness of the handle.( I have extra large hands) My pinky finger always slipped off. I purchased the magazine extenders, problem solved. Easy to shoot, Easy to Clean, Easy to carry and very affordable.
I carry the G19 as my duty weapon as well, I prefer it over the 17. If I want a full sized grip on it, I use the G17 magazine with the X-Grip adaptor to fill in the gap, it works great.
I really enjoy your videos , I just bought the Glock 19 Gen4 mainly because of your reviews, I have other 9mms and I am really impressed with the feel, weight and balance of the Glock. Thanks for all of your reviews, they provide great information for prospective buyers and long time owners. Keep up the good work.
Hey Hickok love your channel. I wanted to let you know I have a bad habit of buying the cheapest 9mm ammo available and I have never had any issues with any of my Glocks (Gen 3 or Gen 4) with feeding and ejecting. I agree with you totally that the Glocks are some of the most reliable polymer handguns available today. I love them.
I have been through a lot of great guns to include HK, Sig, FN, CZ, SA, Steyr, Beretta, S&W, and Glock, and the Glock 19 Gen 4 is the absolute most perfect pistol for me. Now I love all the others, and I think they are fine guns, but I have tested them all to know for absolute sure the G19.4 is my gun. I guess it's true that your gun finds you rather than you finding your gun, and I've tried really hard to find a lot of other guns besides the Glock 19, but it is what it is. For me, this is the perfect EDC/GP gun made.
I'm not on either side but one failure in 180 shots looks like an ammo problem. You get what you pay for. I never had a problem with my G26 and I do get the least expensive ammo. Thank you for been transparent with us, and even though I can't get to the range as much as I wish at least watching you is a comfort. GB
Hikok45 I sincerely respect your opinion on firearms. I just bought a Glock 23 gen 4 upon watching your recommendation for it! I love It!!! Thanks and keep up the excellent work!!
Thanks Hickok45 for recommending the Glock 19 as a person's first Glock. My wife and I just paid off the Flat Dark Earth Glock 19 Gen 4 late this afternoon. I'll have to fire it in the morning as it is night time now.
They are almost all designed badly then, because I've seen people who were prone to "limp wristing" almost all the various semi-autos. Some people do have a problem with it, weak wrist, or something. I don't really understand it, as I TRY to limp wrist guns sometimes and cannot manage to get it to malfunction. Weird.
thanks for your reply. it's nice to see that you still take the time to engage your viewers. i've also tried shooting several full magazines doing my best to limp wrist various pistols. coincidentally i've never had a failure during these experiments which is why i'm so skeptical. i may end up trading my gen 4 19 in for a gen 3 17. i still haven't lost my taste for glock yet.
Thanks Hickok. Perfect timing. Plan on picking up one Jan 2. Wanted teh Gen 4 19 but have been hesitant on all the disscusion on problems revolving around the recoil spring.
@2ndamendrights, I appreciate your doing that, because maybe it will be easier for me to find the models I want on the shelves in gun shops. They have a way of getting scarfed up before I get there. :-)
I have a glock 19 gen 4 and a glock 22 gen 3 fde. The 19 is absolutely amazing. I had one hang up as you did with this one but it's been smooth sailing since then. Same with my 22. The only modification I've made to them is Hogue grip sleeves. Love the channel! Shooting the breeze helps me kill time at work lol
I bought my first Glock after 15 year's of shooting, a Lipseys Distribution edition FDE (Flat Dark Earth) Glock 17 Gen 3 about a month ago. Apart from the FDE frame, it's just a Gen 3 17.... but I absolutely LOVE the color! But I wanted a black one..... .and I was sick of paying $50 a magazine after a 4-5 month BACKORDER for my FNP-45. So, I NOW have a Glock Gen 4 21 (and it's my bedside gun!!!), man I'm glad I traded the FNP-45 for this, FNP-45 is awesome, but hard to find mags!!
I bought a gen4 19 in 2010 and it came with 04 spring. I have had 0 failures of any kind. The first 1000 rnds I shot were PMC bronze 115 gr8 ball. After that I've shot UMC, Winchester white box and that really weak federal champion. No problems great gun.
I have a Glock 19 gen 3 I couldn't hit a barn with. I tend to just keep it in the safe and shoot my S&W 586 instead. Watching you shoot a Glock makes me realise it's probably operater-related, so I 'll just get it out again and practice some more with it this friday on the range. Love your channel!
It is so difficult to find Gen4 nowadays.Thank you very much for sharing . 🙏 This is my instructor introducing to me on my first range practice. Love it at once.
@kgarvey100 , Depends on how weak it has to be. A .22 Magnum might be a choice, but 9mm would be better if it's not too strong. Maybe buy some subsonic rounds that are meant for a subgun. They would not be as effective, but they would recoil less.
Have you noticed any difference with the little divit in the trigger bar? I know the gen3 doesnot have it and alot of people say that it and the spring are the problems. Figured I would ask the man I know has the most experience with Glocks. Your camera is as clear as can be. You and John keep up the great work yall are doing!
Hey Hickok new subscriber here and let me say first thank you for the in-depth review. New to Glocks just purchased my 19 and ran 150 rounds through it with not one hiccup. Now from what I understand the RSA should now be 04 and the ejector should be 30274 and this has from what I understand has returned the Glock back to perfection. Thanks again Hickok for all of your reviews.
The early gen 4 glock 19's had the 03 spring in it which was made for the glock 23 .40 caliber. The newer 19's have the 04 spring in it which helps with the reliability. I have never had a malfunction with my gen 4.
i shot it today and hope to buy one next mouth but i could not believe how powerful this 9MM really is i was blown away! and i shot 115G federal target ammo and didn't have a bit of trouble! thanks hickok you sent me in the right direction on what pistol is perfect for me for home protection!
some hate comments on the glock for this vid. and as for the comment on top hickok has never been biased towards any gun. he favours the glock which alot of people do. but he still likes other guns such as 1911's. everyone has a favourite anything, just because you like one thing over another. doesnt mean the other is terrible. that goes for everything in life not just firearms
You are the man to trust. I want to keep shooting my Glock 34. It is a Gen 3 as I have mentioned with a prefix s/n of VHR. Spent casing July 2013. Really new. For sure, I came across what looks like a slide-lock as if the magazine was empty even though it was full. Very probable was my wrongful grip. I had one FTF, but I bet that has something about it too. I had several BTF, but I want to think maybe it was a bounce off the wall. Perhaps in 1000 rds, things will and should be perfect.
WOW. I've heard over and over again that the Ruger SR9c was built around the design of the Gen 4 Glocks and now that I see this video I can see what they mean. Not only are the external features similar, the internals are EXACTLY the same side by side. With that said, I can't wait to get my Glock 19 Gen 4.
Hickok45 enjoy your videos, purchased my first Glock the G30 last year. My Berreta 92fs may not get a lot of use after i can find a Gen 4 G19. Wasn't a Glock fan until i actually shot one and i was hooked.
Hickok, great quality vids!, THE FOOTAGE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. I purchased a gen4 9x19 on 1-16-2012(Nevada), fired 400+ rnds out the box using winchester white box 115g and American Eagle/Federal 115g, ZERO FTF or ejection issues i.e. hitting you in the face, 043 spring, 30274 ejector, (2)factory tested rounds dated, 11-14-2011, saying that my cousin has FTF numrous times(baby eagle & gen3 9m) using 1000rnd fiocchi bulk purchased online, its the ammo, like fireworks, some are just duds im assuming.
I just saw this, got a Gen 4 recently and your fear of it not being reliable out of the box is unfounded. After seeing this vid, I took my brand new one to the range shot off 145 rounds of federal white box w/o a hiccup.
I bought one of the first Glock 19 Gen 4. It had a couple issue mainly with the ejecting the spent casing into my face. I now got the 04 spring in my gun and have not had any problems since then i have only 500 rounds through it so far. So to me the Glock 19 Gen 4 is still a winner in my book. I'm not a big fan of the UMC 9 ammo by the way I've had a lot of guns in the past that didn't like it but loved Winchester White Box.
Mr. hickcock, thanks for all your reviews. I've been watching your reviews, reading & asking salesman and friends. After a lot of studying I choose the glock 19 gen 4. I had it narrowed down between that and an xdm. test fired both and the glock felt better (I don't know if that makes sense) but anyway thanks for your guidance.
