Please keep making videos.... I'm learning so much from you, I've had my glow forge for almost one year and have been just a little intimidated with using non-proof grade items, the measurements get me a bit confused. Please do a video showing how to use them and where you get your them. Thank you thank you!! :)
Thank you for the encouragement ☺️ I am definitely overdue for another tutorial! Hopefully I will be caught up on my orders soon and can make one. If you have Facebook, join the Glowforgers using Silhouette Studio group for more help in the meantime.
I have enjoyed making ornament for family using your tutorial. However, I've come across letters that drop below the natural line, like j,p, etc. I'm not sure how to line them up when I mirror the name have you come across this, did you use a different font or do you have any idea of what to do?
When I have letters that go low like that, I use the knife on solid setting to chop the bottom of the letter off some. The names also do not necessarily have to overlap at the bottom like I demonstrated either, so that could give a little more room to those letters too. These are great sellers for me every year!
Hi. Love this video. I was wondering 1) what do you do with names that have g, y, p or whatever that hangs low? 2) have you ever mirrored the image so that the engraving is on the backside and front is smooth? Does it make a difference? Thanks so much
Hi! Thanks for watching! 1. Usually for those types of letters I will first see what it looks like without editing and if I don't like it then I will use the knife tool (solid setting) to slice part of the bottom away. 2. For these snowflakes it did not matter to reverse before engraving bc of how the names are rotated along the snowflake arms. Otherwise when using an acrylic that can be seen through or with mirrored acrylic, yes reverse your design before engraving and that way it will be smooth when flipped over to the correct side. I do prefer having the smooth side as the front.
For this project it wasn't necessary to worry about that because the way the snowflake rotations make the name flipped already. It does end up smooth and the name correctly oriented. Other times using clear acrylic or mirrored, yes, you'll want to mirror engrave so it's smooth when flipped over.
I just received my glow forge and would like to know what you use in Silhouette (Business, Design) you use be cause it looks easier than Inkscape. Thanks A Newbie.
Welcome to the Glowforge world! This is the business edition and it is the one needed for full compatibility with Glowforge. The cheapest place to buy it is usually swingdesign.com for a one time fee of $48.
Because the name portion is blue the GF sees each color as a separate function. So blue i can set to engrave and the outer portion I can tell it to cut. The file can be uploaded as is to GF at the point. Let me know if you still have questions :)
