Thank you for this very informative video. You did an excellent job of explaining everything clearly. I am looking forward to more Glowforge videos from you, so i subscribed. :)
I have the Pro model. The consensus for recommendations is either get the Pro or Basic, the Plus is essentially the Basic with a longer warranty that costs more. You'll love the possibilities the GF offers your crafting creativeness if you go for it! 😁
A few days after this video, I had the same question and looked for answers from the gurus I look up to. So far, consensus is, it can't be done. Which, yes, makes connecting fonts useless right now. Another issue for them to work out before it gets officially offered :/ I however have not tried actually running it to see if it's going to cut like it shows on the screen 🤷 maybe worth wasting a small scrap piece to see if maybe it just *knows* what to do... but I doubt it.
I only flip it for clear and mirrored acrylic. For those, if you flip it, the side you engrave on will be backwards but when you flip it to the other side it will be correct and smooth. It can be hard to understand but that's what I'm trying to show during the weeding part of this video. Another example you can try for visual- If you write on the back side of paper then flip it to the front and try to read it, your words will be backwards. You'd have to write backwards on the back to be able to read it forward on the front side, same concept. Since you can see through clear and mirrored acrylic, this trick can be done.
Sorry, a premium subscription service is a deal breaker for me dropping over $5,000 bucks on glowforge. I hate subscription services. Just let me buy the machine and use it to its fullest. Now looking at EPILOG or Boss.
The premium service is not required for using the Glowforge. I do not plan on using it as it does not give me any advantage over using my current design program. I am not familiar with other lasers as much, but definitely wanted to make that clear for your decision making because it is a big one!
This "premium" tool pack situation scares me. It seems like a money grab because sales of machine are down and they are trying to get cash. If they go bankrupt we all end up with a desk sized brick.
That would be the ultimate worst case... I sure hope not 😱 Sales have likely dipped during this virus time, like most things. You're probably right that it is an effort to bring more $ in sooner; both by the fee for premium and drawing in a new market of people without design experience. It is making it more in line with the commercials' advertised ease of use.
I’m sure sales have dipped during this time - sales have dipping fo everyone. But...I think this may be a next logical step for Glowforge. Cricut and Silhouette both have premium services as well. To me it makes sense to have this as a revenue stream.
