Would swapping an 04 tahoe 4l60 with a one plug mlp switch into my 2001 tahoe and installing a new 2 plug mlp affect my 3 to 4 shift...im cruising 70 at 2500rpm..never leaving 3rd..was in a good running and shifting truck..tried a hard reset..pulling my hair out?

So I have a 07 Sierra same transmission do u ever had a problem with loss shifter when apply from park to reverse n it won’t go on gear but if I pass to drive n come back to reverse will engage ?

I have a chevy c10 1986 305ci. the automatic trans wont engage reverse or drive when on uneven ground, however it shifts perfectly through all gears while on normal even pavement and never slips while driving. noticed this issue when turning around one day and the front of the truck was tilted down in a driveway. Have you ever heard of such an issue? Fluid is full and clean. I will be doing a service SOON but i'm stumped. the shifting rod is tight. IDK.... I love your videos and knowledge!!!

First thing I would do is pull the pan and look at the filterand pick up tube.

This has me leaning towards the fluid level. There are numerous dipstick stoppers (bolted to the valve-body). They're easy to accidentally interchange...but, they don't play well with one another (resulting in incorrect fluid level readings...looks full, even though it isn't). I don't know if someone was recently inside the trans... There are two ways to check the fluid level (Cold vs Hot). The dipstick should have fill lines for both cold and hot. It's best to check the level when it's up to operating temp (hot). I like what michaelthul6013 said (filter and pickup tube). The filter gets inserted into the bottom of the pump. The pump has a seal that's dedicated for the filter. If the seal is worn out, it could allow air to get sucked into the pump (resulting in a drop in oil pressure). Also, it's possible that the filter is cracked, also resulting in air getting sucked in. Once again, I don't know the history of the trans. Hope this helps.

Thank you to SPAW for replying to my question. It turns out my trans is a TH350 and there was allot of creamy metal in the pan! I put new filter and fluid with no hang ups on shifting this far. I will be installing a built 454BB bored to 460. Will a 4L60E hold up to that engine with about 500HP? I live in farmville Illinois and cant get much information. Thanks again!!!!@@SouthpawAutoworks

Thanks! That was great. Here is a question I always wondered. Is the physical shift only to put the parking break on? The shift lever moves the wire the wire rotates the lever, the MLP tells the computer what gear was selected and the computer sets the solenoids that defines the gear we are in. Is that right? The only physical thing the lever does is put the parking break on?

I like your question. The lever moves rotates the shaft. There's a different part (rooster comb) that's bolted to the other end of the shaft (on the inside of the trans)...that also rotates. The rooster comb has provisions for the park rod, which does actuate the park pawl (mechanism that interlocks with the park gear). Additionally, the rooster comb is attached to the Manual Valve via a link (skinny rod that's roughly 2 inches long). When we move the shifter, we are simultaneously moving the Manual Valve, inside the trans (specially, inside the valve-body). The Manual Valve directs oil throughout the VB, and the trans. Even though the PCM controls the shift solenoids, the position of Manual Valve (PRNDL), determines whether or not the shift solenoids will receive the oil that's used to apply clutches (this oil is called Line Pressure). I hope that makes sense. Really need to make a video on this.
