If you have the same set up as shown, check if the 5v bypass signal is present at cranking. This signal should only be present when the engine rpm reaches 400 rpm.

I had this same exact issue on a Heli other day, check engine warning on. Would crank, but no spark all diagnostic testing led back to the ignition module. Will be swapping that out once part comes in.

Also make sure you have good ground connections.

What about the crank sensor what role does it play here? Normally the crank is the one that provides the RPM signal.

Just replaced a dying coil on our 99’ GMC ice cream truck. I replace both Coil and ICM, once one goes the other isn’t far behind. We have high idle times

If it a speed density system, meaning it uses a MAP sensor instead of a MAF a vacuum leak would increase the rpm.

ive found the magnets in the distrubutor can crack or get weak from heat. magnets lose thier magnetism when heated

You need to do more videos you could do past service calls particularly on tour diagnosis methods etc. Where did you learn your techniques?

Yeah I know. It's just so hard to do a video on the road, I've been really busy last few months. Techniques I use came from mixed sources. Other techs, books, training videos, etc.

My ignition coil keeps burning out when I try to start it. Someone else was playing around with it before I was called. The 4 wires to the distributor was elemenated.

@@forkliftgeek10 it's a GM 4cyl just like the you've illustrated but they eliminated the 4wires from the distributor so only those from the coil are connected to the distributor. They said that it use to run like that.

Yes it can run without the other wires to the distributor. The two wires would be the positive supply and the signal from the distributor to the ignition coil

Great video my friend. I need advice on sourcing info particularly wiring diagrams for forklifts. At my job I maintain a hyster H80Ft. This machine is about 3 years old and the company has no service manuals. Only for the larger machines that use diesel engines. I Googled the engine which is a 4.3 vortec engine that runs on propane. a few sites had promised the wiring diagrams like I wanted. Not much info was found. I see some other sites are pay sites and was wondering if you had any suggestions?

Fuel system it uses the standard silver lpg (which I called propane tank sometimes) cylinder on the back counter weight. As for ignition it has a distributor but there is a hall effect sensor inside of it. I scoped the waveform and it is real slow around 5 sec screen. When I scope primary turn on voltage and current I use around a 20 MS screen time. I use the snap on verus edge. It depicts time across the entire sCreek sweep and not per division like the pico. I can determine that sig probably is cam since it is slow. But this is an assumption. I can see the ignitor trigger sig as it leads to the ecm. The other connector goes to my coil. I said a lot of info that you probably didn't need to know to answer your question. All I can say is I am trying everyday to be better. So if I missed the area of identification to answer what system is on the machine . Please explain what I should look for. Thank you for the help. Coworkers are not encouraging past their comfort zones.

Im running a bypass system on a big block chevy on a boat I changed out coil and distributor with MSD products #8366 I get maybe one spark and then no spark at all But if I pull the dist out and rotate by hand I get spark all the time And will this spark without the 4 pin plug from ecm ? What the hell is going on here

I have an intermittent issue we're the truck randomly shuts off while driving the turns on a runs fine for a while. This last time it threw a code 33. Would you have advice on how to diagnose? Thank you

once the pcm gets the 5 volt reference signal, and tells the pcm to govern the spark, does it still rechannel thru the spark module to signal the coil, or does the pcm take over completely and there is nothing going thru the ignition module anymore at all.

Once the rpm reaches 400 the control is transferred over to the pcm.

so is the ignition control module COMPLETELY taken out of the circuit.. if the tan and black timing wire on the firewall is disconnected it is said to be in " module mode".. so if the tan and black wire is disconnected it freom the ecm, then evidently the motor is running soley off of the ignition control module?

@@randy1ization if the B terminal wire is disconnected either from the module or the pcm side, then the it would always be in "module mode" as you call it.

hey I'm from Poland. Unfortunately, no one will help me here. What if I have a 2.7V bypass all the time. I replaced the ESC, splitter, cables, spark plug, coil. 2.7V all the time and the car is not working properly. I am tired of it for a year and a half;) Help! Chevy S10 95y 4,3 TBI

The bypass signal will always be present until the rpm reaches at least 400. At this time the timing is transferred to the ECM. I would check if the rpm signal from the distributor is reaching the ECM
