Thanks a bunch! I thought I'd have to buy a new starter, but after dropping it in my 1992 Chevy Suburban 1500 2 wd (with the 350), I noticed that there was a frayed and dangling purple wire. I believe this was to the S terminal. I taped it up with Gorilla Tape and put a ring terminal on it, found the right washer & lock washer, and nut (8mm fine thread) and VOILA! Now I'm waiting for my son to help me lift it up back into position. I'm not strong enough! (I'm a 73 yr old retired gas station mechanic!)
Looks to me like a diode is a good idea for a stock starter? I'd have to see full diagram, but sounds like it's important to prevent pulling any portion of starting current through ignition circuit & coil? I assume your kit has directions on which end attaches to starter. I'm still running dual points [yeah, I know], so thanks for the video!
Could you explain, please? An idea of a motor with an Intertor to fill the battery and a Dimaror motor to spin a huge wheel at a good speed, is it possible? I am looking for a suitable medium to circulate electricity, is it possible for example ???
67 Camaro 396 MSD blaster coil and full sized delco reman starter. I do not have the yellow wire to my starter only the main feed and S purple lines. I was having hot start issues and believe this might be the issue. Do you have a wire/diode or part that can help me out. Thanks!
Great instruction. I have a 5.3L Motor from a 2003 Chevy Silverado installed in my 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass. I am using the original ignition switch but matching this with the 5.3 Engine with its starter and 4L60e Transmission with a Park Neutral Safety Switch. Is it possible of providing a drawing or diagram that supports my configuration? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Look for wiring diagrams for a 1998-2002 camaro, it's an ls1, but basically the same motor and transmission. There will be plenty of resources on that year camaro/firebird, LS1tech is a great source for to ask.
I have a 69 and the start engages but does not disengage when the key is turned off. It stays riding on the flywheel. We have purple on the mini starter and the run wire on nothing. Any advice?
Was really hoping you would have stated what the typical "S" wire amperage draw is. The ones I have are drawing about 60 amps just for the solenoid, which seems excessive to me. Even the new one right out of the box is like this. Makes wires hot also if you crank for any length of time. The one on my 04 5.3L only draws 10A, is there really this must difference in starter solenoids between 94 and 2004?
I have a 1976 chevy nova I am trying to install a mini started but I have not been able to find out how to wire. When I wired it up as soon as I put the battery cable on it started spinning? There is actually 3 wires the battery wire the start wire the other wire is what sends power back into the car on the old starter it went on with the battery wire any suggestions
I’m a little confused with why you would need the diode with an HEI. On my mini-starter with a SBC and older style ignition running HEI, I have the S tab (not ring) on starter solenoid to the S on my ignition. What would the diode be connected to?
I purchased a new starter motor for my Same Corsaro 70 Tractor. The tractor starts in about 3 seconds during which time a loud rattling sound comes from the Starter Motor. Does anyone have any ideas.
But I have singel hei E core type ignition coil I do have that 4 pin gm ignition module wuld that R terminal still work on me hei set up? What rating is that diode and what kinde of diode shuld I use? I dont know if I done somthing wrong me fuse just pops when I try to use that terminal. What direction shuld that diode label face??? I dont know if that wire can cause problems bouth me 4 pin gm ignition module and me positive linear voltage regulator inside the dashboard are polarity sensitive so how can I bypass this problem I have more of those starter selenoids wuld that problem be solved if I winde 2 starter selenoid in series ore pararel configuration????
I have a 68 chevelle, car only comes on when i jump the starter with a screwdriver. Got purple on r and ground. Positive on main just like the car was before but for some reason doesnt even crank. I didnt connect the solenoid since it didnt have it before. Any help guys?
Does that Yellow Diode wire get wired to a 5 pin 12v relay ? I have an 84 vette that has many wires pulled out. I had just saw this video and noticed that diode wire you sell looks JUST like a wire that came with this car. It had a note on it that said “starter Motor” and at the other end it was attached to a Bosch 5 pin relay with a note that said “use 4 pins only”. I haven’t been able to to figure out what that relay is. And this DOES have an HEI dist. So I’m guessing the guy ran that yellow wire to a relay ? Another wire to the relay goes to a ground. The other 3 pins don’t have anything to them, BUT there Is A wire or two near the battery that has the right pigtail attachment that “could” connect to this. So I’m wondering if I’m going down the right path figuring this rely goes to that starter and that I should trace wires under that assumption ? HEEEELLLLPPPPPP LOL
Not enough information, but it sounds like the starter coil is weak? If it doesn't hold bendix out while starting, the gears just bounce off of flexplate and everything just gets chewed up. An undervoltage will behave the same way - check your ignitiion switch and verify it's not dropping voltage and wires are in good condition -beyond that, a loose firewall connector can drop voltage too. Something as simple as cut insulation that partially grounds out can leave you scratching your head with an intermittant problem. Alternatively, something as simple as poor lubrication of bendix assembly can make the gears hang on start, and flywheel gets damaged as the gears don't retract after starting correctly - the flywheel is driving them off after engine is running.
Why does my starter have TWO wires on the same connection? It's black and red. It makes NO sense what the hell these are for, and I can't find any info.
These mini starters need to have the R terminal for step up voltage pretty fucking lame to delete that option and you have to buy a diode kit more china shit to install in your car and fuck up your life fuck this shit stick with stock!
