The video was spot on! The only difficult part I encountered was removing the signal relay. It was more difficult to loosen and pull out than I expected.

Glad I found this video. I had a problem with my Silverado in which the right signal would work. But the left wouldn't. So even with the hazard lights only the right would flash. I installed this the same day I saw the video and it worked perfectly. Saved me big bills that mechanics were gonna charge me. Thank you!!

I would like to add that this was very helpful to me with a problem I had with a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The flashers on the Silverado would come on and off sporadically. Until I replaced the Directional Relay. Thanks for the great starting point.

Worked to fix my 1999 Chevy Silverado. Was just a different relay part than the one in the video. I used a "EP29 Electronic Flasher" and fixed my turn signals no problem. Thanks for the video!

THank you very much for this video! 1) It confirmed what was causing my turn signal problem; 2) I made the entire repair in less time than it would have taken just to DRIVE to the repair shop. 3) I saved hundreds of dollars in parts & labor. (part was only $40 on amazon)

Thank you for this video SteveO, my 03 Tahoe was experiencing the exact symptoms you described . Local dealership wanted 85 to diagnose and 110 an hour for labor, (whaaat!) Went to the local part shop and pickup up the relay for 70 bucks and less than 20 minutes in my labor and good as new. I especially want to say thank you because the wife won't be hounding me to fix it anymore!!

This fix worked perfectly! Problem symptom: When I put my left turn signal on, both right and left signal lights flashed (just like when you turn the hazards on). Changing this part fixed the problem. It took a total of 10 minutes to complete the repair. Thanks for posting this video! Saved me $100-$150 in repair costs.

My 2004 Chevy Suburbn was having problems with turn signals intermittantly. They would stop flashing when the brake pedal was pressed, and resume blinking after releasing the brake pedal. Also found that cruise control would sometimes disengage if I used a turn signal. I just replaced the flasher repay per this video and problem solved! Thanks for the video Steve O!

I had a slightly different problem when I hit the brakes, the left turn signal indicator (dash) would light up and stay solid. My left hand turn signal on the drivers side mirror would also light up when i hit the brakes. I bought this part and viola, ITS FIXED!!!! I have to cancel my appointment at the mechanic now!!! I've been trying to fix this myself for a month and finally found this video! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Awesome video and straight to the point. Took me less than 10 minutes. 2003 Yukon Denali 6.0 gas. I got part on Amazon for about $50. IDK who gave you thumbs down but they suck at life:)

Thanks Steve O. With this video I was able to swap out the flasher relay in about 20 mins. It took longer to find one at a local parts store than to complete the job. So far so good. My 4 ways came on when I used the left turn signal in my 2003 Tahoe

The video is simple and gets to the point. The only change I would make, before putting the trim panels back on, make sure the turn signals work. Knowing Murphy's law, if I put all the panels back on, it won't work, On the other hand, if the signals still don't work, would would a person do next? I have a 2001 suburban , the four way flasher works ok but the turn signals stopped working. I'll order the relay and replace it. Thanks, well done.

It is more commonly referred to as a TURN SIGNAL FLASHER at your local auto parts store. Part Number LM487 at Autozone or Part Number FC563 at Advance or O'Reilly. It will cost a bit more, but you won't have to wait on shipping. Great video though. P.S. In many cases, the flasher can be repaired. (It's just corrosion.)

Thanks for the video, I love posting videos of things that can help other people, especially when I can't find one on You Tube. You are the only one I found that is really addressing the issue of my 2002 too 2006 Silverado. I recently started upgrading my truck to LEDs and have to change the electronic lighting control module. (Blinker relay) I found mine for $30 brand-new in package, "delivered" on Amazon from the manufacturer (Novita). It's part number LM 487 The video was definitely helpful. Thanks again

I initially was only looking for the location but ended up watching the whole video. I'll have to get a flasher relay and put it in. 2 questions though. 1. Wouldn't you recommend people testing the turn signals before putting the panels back on? 2. What in the world are GM engineers smoking that makes them want to locate items that require removing half the dash to gain access to them?

The right turn signal in my 2003 Suburban reliably works but the left turn signal only works sometimes. Sometimes I need to turn the left signal on and off 3 times before they work, sometimes it takes more than that. Also sometimes I need to turn the steering wheel (at a stop at an intersection) a good bit to the left before they will work and stay flashing.

It’s fun watching videos like this, in my opinion. It’s good to know how to fix older parts in older cars even though my car is a 2015 Buick Encore, which doesn’t use any clicker for the turn signals. It has electronic turn signals on it which are cool. But mechanical turn signals are cool too, in my opinion. I think most GM vehicles, older and newer models, are cool in their own ways.

Great video. Hi steve I have a question. I have a 2004 chevy tahoe I installed after market Led Tail lights. And at night I'm unable to drive the car because with the headlights being on. My tail lights stay off. I don't get it. If I hit the turn signal the signals work but they blink fast. If I hit the break light it works fine If I go reverse my led bulbs work fine. But when the car is on at night and the headlights are on. My tail lights stay off. Do you think replacing the Flasher Module can help solve this issue.
@stephenormsby3662
@stephenormsby3662 9 лет назад
Sniper007Blue Thanks. The flasher relay is not the problem. You are dealing with two separate issues. Your directionals are blinking faster because of the reduced current draw of LEDs vs. incandescent bulbs. You will need to install resistors in series with the directional LEDs to solve this problem. See some links on this below... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6SH3ElHaf28.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5yKlQQCMbwg.html I can't say for sure why you have no tail lights, but I strongly suspect that you may have replaced a double filament bulb with a single "filament" LED and now all you have is the brake/turn signal filaments in the rear. The tail lights on your Tahoe share a glass bulb with the brake/turn signals (double filament bulbs). The tail light filaments and brake/turn signal filaments operate interdependently even thought contained in the same housing. Sorry it has to be so complicated. Good Luck.

our problem was no turn signal on both rear, side lamp and fronts flashed twice as fast. checked flashers, wiring grounds , bulbs ,all the above. no cure of problem. I work in a chevy dealership, they were scratching their heads. I work in the body shop. not a wiring problem fixer. I had several left over wiring harnesses from tail lamp replacements. plugged one in. bingo, left turn worked . tried the right one bingo, it worked. only problem, wasn't correct wiring as it had no side lamp. so I figured it was from the harness back and that left the sockets as wiring looked good. started to check sockets, from the top. it looked not correct down inside, metal connector contact points looked irregular. pried with a small straight screwdriver and pried gently around until looked like other prong. then looked at bulb. it had the 2 wires on each side. held the wire down at the loose end and gently pried a small rise in the wire, reinstalled bulb and plugged wiring back it. . bingo, worked like new. did same to other side and it fixed it also. hope this works for you because this is very frustrating when you try everything and still no cure.

I have replaced both my front and rear turn signals with LEDs and I have a Novita LM579 flasher equipped. My problem is when my headlights are on, both turn signal indicators light up and the turn signals stay on the high setting and dont respond when I go to use them or even the hazards. However, everything works when my headlights are off. Possibly a defective flasher? My truck is a 2003 2500HD.

@stephenormsby3662

Probably not. LEDs have less resistance than filament bulbs and can screw up the flashing characteristics. Usually you need to install resistors in series with LED lights in order to have them flash properly. Good luck.

2006 Suburban... When my turn signals are activated (independently and 4 way), if i push my brake, the rear lights flash instead of the amber turn signal light. The turn signal just stays illuminated. I have narrowed it down to a directional relay, faulty multi switch or faulty turn signal/ cruise control switch. Do you think this relay is the culprit? Bulbs and fuses are new

My 99 escalade sounds as if my blinkers or hazards are on but they are not. When i hit the brakes the sound of the blinkers stop clicking. And when i put my right turn signal on sometimes it wont work. And also the back right tail light, the plastic on the light bult almost acts like it gets melted a little bit to where that hole tail light assembly stops working until i clean it out and change the bulb... would the relay cause this?

Steve I got a 2001 camaro z28 that I'm not getting power to the front passenger turn signal light. The back passenger turn signal light works like it should and hazards work fine but not the front passenger side. Ive traced to wire to the fire wall and there's no power to it. The front and back lights for the turn signal on the left side have different colors. The front is blue the back is purple iir. Do these two meet at the steering column switch? Do you think it could be the switch it self that's bad?
@stephenormsby3662

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra which seems to work, but when I turn on the right signal it flashes the right turn signal, but it also flashes the brake lights too and if I have the cruse control on it disengages that too. The dealership who replaced the hydro boost last year said it was not a connected issue but that is when it all started. Would the replacement of this part solve these issues?
@stephenormsby3662
@stephenormsby3662 5 лет назад
I don't believe the hydro boost replacement would cause these problems. If I had to guess, it may be the multi-function switch under the steering wheel. Warning there is an airbag in the steering wheel. Leave it to the professionals.

Hey Steve. I am having the same problem but only with the left flasher. It stays on and won't flash on that whole side when my brake is applied. Would ot still be the flasher module?

Medjai06 Hard to say for sure. If it were me, I would start by replacing the flasher module and go from there. It is relatively cheap and not too tough to replace. Good luck.

Hi Steve, My left turn signal only works on occasion. It will click as if it's trying to work. Lately, the signal will hardly work at all. Do you think replacing the relay would help with this issue or is it only for hyper flashing or when your flashers come on and off? Thank you for your advice!

+edenskeeper08 If it were mine, I would change the directional relay and see it that fixes it. Good Luck.

Did anyone have difficulty removing the Relay. I can't get enough leverage on the part to pull it out. Does anyone know what's holding it in? Is there a tab need to release?

Little help?...2003 Sierra. I had the problem of my left blinker staying stuck 'on'. Not always but seemed to be occuring more and more. Replaced the flasher (Novita one from Amazon). Boom seemed to work. But a few days later, same problem. Do y'all think it is just another faulty flasher, or something else? I read somewhere a ground possibly? Seems weird that it would be the same side, same problem. Thanks

Can’t say for sure, but since replacing the flasher relay fixed it for a while I would suggest getting the GM part and trying that. A bad ground should not keep your blinker from turning off.

@@stephenormsby3662 thanks for the input. Haven't messed around too much, but I've noticed that the fault only happens with my auto headlights on. If it's just my daytime runners (Canada) the indicator works normally. Strange!

I have a `07 Silverado and my left rear(only) brake/turn signal are not working. I have replaced bulbs, the circuit board under rear bumper and the turn signal switch, still to no avail. I have checked fuses. Right side works perfectly fine. I'm stuck and trying to avoid the mechanic shop. Any suggestions on where to look next? Thanks in advance.

Mario Carrillo It could be the bulb socket. Try removing the tail lamp assembly and stick a pin into the wire that feeds the brake/turn filament. Then check voltage from the pin to a GOOD ground while the brake or flashers are on. If you get voltage there, it is the socket. It could also possibly be the directional relay. Good luck.

Could a bad turn signal relay cause the brake lights to stay on? I'm having to same issue with the turn signals making the 4-ways come on, and when I'm braking and using my turn signals they won't flash on the dash,

I can't say for sure, but the contacts in the flasher are known to fail prematurely. I would start with replacing the relay. They are relatively inexpensive and not too hard to replace.

Hi steve... I hve a tahoe and i did replave all the bulbs into led and this problem appeared (fast flash) Do u think its the relay or somthing else same thing happens wen pressing the double signals.

I’m pretty sure that the problem is related to the LED bulbs. I believe you need to put some type of resistor in series with them in order for the flasher to operate properly.

I replaced mine today but now neither flasher works, but I cannot tell if it's fully seated. When fully seated do you still have gaps on the top and bottom of the relay and its connector? Thanks.

is this the same for my 2007 newer body style? but with the 5 pin? instead of the 10... because i installed LED tail lights w/ the resistors and they still hyper flash.. somone answer please.

I put the new one in and the turn signals work, but now they go really fast. I was having the same problem as you before. Is the unit bad? Or is that how the new ones work?
@stephenormsby3662
@stephenormsby3662 5 лет назад
They should flash at the original factory speed. Do you have any burned out bulbs, or have you replaced the turn signal bulbs with LEDs? This could be the issue.
@stoked67

I put back the original part that ends in #35 and the turn signals work fine. The left turn signal just cuts out periodically. The part # I put in ends in 20 maybe I need the one that ends in 21? They never flashed quickly before I put In the part.

Also they are just standard bulbs.

My signals work and I can hear them ticking on the dash...... just no green Arrows (lights) showing on the instrument panel. Is this the fix for that? Thanks
