On mpg arguement. Have you ran a 10,000 mile cost comparison on the diesel vs the gas. I have when the eco diesel was still an option. My numbers found that with the price of gas vs diesel and the maintenance difference the diesel was much more expensive over that 10,000 miles. I would choose the ram regardless of engine. They are more comfortable. I'll fuel up more often over being less comfortable.

Currently owning a LZ0 I’ve had 3 trips to the dealer for emissions with only 7500 miles on the truck. She’ll be more expensive to own over the next 10 years compared to a gas v8 with wear and tear. I had a 2020 with an LM2 bought new, @ 25k my high pressure fuel pump went. Knocking it out of commission.

@nathanbillingsley42 does the GMC have def?, if it does then that's a extra cost on top off diesel

I have an LM2 and a LZ0, with 70K miles combined. Zero issues on either. I love this powertrain and I'd choose it again.

One advantage of the tailgate on the Ram is the ability to get into the bed when you have a trailer attached

JD love the video but as I mentioned in other videos, you need to compare price per mile gas vs diesel. Yes diesel gets better gas mileage but I believe if you did price per mile with diesel. Def fluid vs gas, it would be cheaper for gas.

My first truck was a 1978 Chevy C-10 with a 250 straight six and 3 on the tree. Hunk of junk, but I did buy it used. Next truck was a brand new 1991 GMC Sierra 1500, 4.3 V6 and a 5 speed manual. Best truck I ever had, regular cab, long bed, that thing went every where and got great mpg. Sold that with 189,000 miles and bought a brand new 2003 Silverado 2500HD, I thought this was my dream truck and on paper it was. Regular Cab long bed with the LQ4 engine. Biggest piece of junk I ever had, traded it in with 16,000 miles for s brand new 2005 Dodge Power Wagon, this truck did and does everything I wanted and needed to do. 132,000 miles later, I still have it along with a 2017 RAM Power Wagon. This one hasn't been as good as my older PW, but it does everything I need it to, just with more modern crap than is really needed. I miss having a cassette or CD player, but at ;east it has a shifter for the transmission and the transfer case, not those dials or push buttons. I have been a MOPAR man my whole life, I only strayed on 5 cars that were non-Chrysler, three of which I still have. There is a lot to be said about brand loyalty, but there shouldn't be.I have been looking at the GMC's lately and they are very appealing, just don't know yet.

I agree with your thoughts on the eco-diesel. We have had ours for two years now and it’s crazy that we can get 30 miles per gallon in our wrangler. Way more power and double the mileage we were getting in our 2016 wrangler.

I agree with you on the baby diesel! My wife loves the Ram and I love the GMC. She wants the adjustable pedals and she said the ride is way better. I just cant see getting a generation 1 engine. I would prefer more true usage of that new twin turbo 6 before I sink 86K. We have a 28 foot travel trailer that max weight is 7400 LBS. We do not tow everyday. I have a 2011 F450 and I love it but it sucks as just a dailey driver. It sits 90% of the time. I am going to sell it and get a smaller truck that gets way better gas mileage and is way more comfy. Maybe in a few years I will sell the GMC and get a Ram? I think I will wait on that engine thow.

JD Nice review. I have changed my thinking on the RAM and GMC pick up's you reviewed. MD and HD is where the duramax and the Cummins Turbo makes sense. With LD pickup trucks none of that makes sense where the need to fuel up is concerned. The pump price at any LD trim level is not worth it any more. Since my needs have been only with using a LD truck, my drive to the work sites has been much easier on my wallet since I ditched my bi-weekly run to the pump in my V6 EcoBoost money sucking machine. My operating costs to and from job sites are now about half of what they used to be. Saving money is extremely motivating to make changes. And I think more folks will see that hold true as time goes on.

I would spend my money on F 150 V8 TREMOR. The truck that does it all. Has payload, decent fuel economy, can go off road. It's really disappointing we didn't get to see Cat scale ticket when you were towing the Surveyor with the RAM how much payload is left once hooked to the trailer.

I have a 2020 GMC SLT with 3.0 Duramax. Agree the seats are not the best but I have gotten used to them. So when I trade it will be another one like it but maybe get a Denali next time.

I have owned both of these trucks, a 2018 Denali and a 2019 RAM Limited and i currently own a 24 3500 Denali as a basis for interior comparison on a current truck post GM refresh. On the interior you nailed it RAM is on another level, even my 24 Denali does not compare to what my 2019 RAM was on the interior. Ride between the two 1500's again RAM is on another level. If i was buying a 1500 today it would be another RAM without question. To me on a half ton truck interior comfort and ride are way more important than fuel economy. If i cared about fuel economy i would buy a Prius. FYI, the GMC does not offer "air" suspension. The Denail's upgraded suspension is magnaride which are magnetically controlled dampers and standard springs front and rear. My 2018 had Magnaride and it does not compare to the RAM with 4 corner air, its not even close.

Time spent fueling during a trip is of no concern to me. I’m usually stopping for restroom and leg stretch breaks long before I need fuel. So, fueling up is just a part of one of those stops. I’m currently in my 3rd Ram 1500. This one is a Laramie trim w/the 5.7 eTorque Hemi. My next truck will not be a Ram 1500. Have thoroughly enjoyed all 3 of them but, I have zero interest in the Hurricane I-6. When they dropped the Hemi they lost me as a customer. My next truck will likely be a GMC Denali w/the baby Duramax but not because of fuel mileage.

Ford and Ram make the best trucks period. Love GM for the older Suburban’s and Tahoes. But there’s a reason all 99% of hot shot and haulers use Ford Powerstroke and Ram Cummins. As for halftone trucks, you can’t say the Rams quality interior, ride and features are second to no one. Ford would be the closest and in many ways offers more in regards to chassis. GM hasn’t been in the same league for over 10 years. I wrote this because some GM lovers are getting a little out of hand in here 😂 Ford or Ram 🇺🇸

Thanks for the comparison but $70-$80 Thousand for a truck that goes from point A to point B? What would Dave Ramsey think?
@tomearly111

When you are spending the extra money to get the top of the line 1500 truck model luxury matters most. If not then just go with a lesser trim for way less money. With that in mind the Ram wins hands down. If you are willing and able to spend north of $80,000 on a truck it seems odd that now you are worried about spending a little more money on fuel cost. Sure it would be nice but for me it would be way down the list when looking at this class of truck. How it feels on the road, how it looks, the quality and feel of the interior would be the deciding factors for me. After that would be things like the tailgate features and things of that nature. Sure it's a truck and it has to do truck things well when you need it but for most people the majority of time will be spent just driving it. Ram for the win in all those categories.

I've owned trucks from all of the big 3 and I had so many problems/issues with my Ram that I traded it in after 56k miles on it. Interior parts broke multiple times, had the serpentine belt brake, grabbed the oil dipstick and proceeded to dent the hood from the inside along with bending two pullies. This truck was an absolute nightmare to own as I had the front end worked on 3 times within the 56k miles. I was so excited when I first got it, but after the first year it was all down hill. Chevy and GMC have a lot to offer, however their seats are the least comfortable by far. Ram and Ford seats are way more comfortable for long drives (6+ hours). Ford has a lot of great things about them, however they too have their issues. Sadly, I've had more problems with newer trucks than I ever had on my 2002 F-350 7.3 PSD. This truck was in the shop once for non-regular maintenance work, which was a cam sensor recall. I sold it in 2012 with 298K miles on it and have regretted it. It would probably still be running today.

For one I wouldn't get a luxury trim truck because I think while having some creature comforts is nice those do take away from the payload and towing but I would not need the super high towing capacity of a dualie either so getting a 1 ton or greater truck would also be a waste and I would also be wanting something in an off road capable vehicle but not like the Raptor or Power Wagon so the biggest I would go would be a three quarter ton truck that being said if I had to pick w half ton even though I am not a fan of the Aluminum body because of the inability of using a temporary mounting system for the trucks if you need a loner for lights antennas and signage I would still have to go with the Ford because of the higher payload numbers for some crew cab trucks otherwise I would probably go with w Ram also can you if there are any temporary mounting systems for signage especially but also for running lights and antennas at the same time on an aluminum body truck please let me know

If GM would fix their awful seats it wouldn't even be close for me. Especially since they offer the multi flex on the 3/4 ton. I don't care for RAMs giant vertical screen although their interior is nicer from a fit and finish perspective. The biggest deal is that the Chevys ARE way cheaper for the mid range trims. For a similarly equipped Chevy (both gas) I was looking at 8-10k cheaper then a RAM 2500 for significantly more capability.
