Actual performance (distance) will always vary based on air pressure (psi) in the cannon, weight of the bait rig, wind and ambient conditions. Even with precautions, this stuff can get dangerous, so, build and use at your own risk! You need to use pressurized pvc and we recommend schedule 80. Be safe and have fun!

Since you already used a coupling for a muzzle break you should try adding another 2 to 3 feet to the barrel length to see how much more distance you can get out of it.

That thing is insane. What you need is a locomotive high-pressure steam flapper valve for the trigger so that it's a push-button like a real trigger.

Great work on the wooden spacer. However you can get plastic, underground PVC pipe spacers in combinations of pipe size and space requirements, plus they are much lighter than the wood spacer.

I think we can get it there. We didn’t get to stretch her legs this time since our air pump failed between 80-90psi on the beach. I’d need significantly more, but I think Ol’ Painless (that’s what I’m calling it) can handle it. Do you think we should do a “how far can it shoot” video?

I really like version 3.0! For version 4.0, I have a suggestion for getting more PSI. What if you used a foster fitting, add a pressure regulator, then use a high volume hand pump like the ones they use for pcp air guns. The had would easily reach an extreme volume of air. I just don’t know how much pressure the schedule 80 pipe could handle. I bet it could handle quite a bit. Adding the regulator gauge would allow you to see just how much compressed air is in the plenum and dialing the correct pressure for the correct distance you are trying to achieve. You could get by with a cheap $50.00 BP pump and the foster fitting (female to male ) and regulator couldn’t add too much more money to the build. Do you know what pressure the Schedule 80 pipe can handle? If you can pull that off, you would have the Godzilla of bait launchers! Best wishes. Thanks for the great videos!😃😃😃🤙🏻

Hi great video watching from Ireland 🇮🇪 just a question what do you mean by schedule 80 what size does that refer to as I live in Ireland and we have the metric system
@Woods2Table
@Woods2Table 2 года назад
Schedule 80 just refers to the thickness and the durability of the pipe. The actual thickness will vary by the pipes diameter. There are some charts and tables online that will list this out. Basically, you just want to get something that is as strong and durable as possible and it needs to be pressure rated (not DWV pvc) for safety.

@blakebranch2300
@blakebranch2300 Год назад
Try putting the fitting together at 90 degrees from where you want it, then turn it to where you want it. Doing this will eliminate any chance of air leaks. Also, don't apply tons of glue to the female end. If it pools in the fitting, it will weaken the pvc where it's accumulated.

What type of 4x2 coupling were you using in the previous video? Was it DWV? I’m from Texas and just worried about the pressure being to much for that part alone.

When you say the previous video are you talking about bait cannon 2.0, the one with “upgrade” in the title? Or this video?
@Woods2Table

Everything in that video was schedule 40 pvc. We were worried about the pressure so we didn’t want to push it too much, and took it up to schedule 80 with this build for safety.

change the valve out to a nicer one and you will gain 20 to 30% more efficiency. we built these pvc air cannons in college as part of a design/engineering class and found if you go with an electric solenoid you will see the best performance next best is a copper butterfly valve along with making the handle about 8 inches long lets you throw the lever faster. other than that great setup

Just had to chime in. Why not use dry nitrogen to pressureize the system. Add a pressure guage and necessary fittings to adapt to a 1/4 in flare nut. Now you can pressureize up to 2000psi or anywhere in between using a regulator to add the nitrogen to the system. Boom, shoot to the moon.

You need to start with a tire beader...and a cheap compressor will only work a few times...you need an automotive air bag suspension compressor, a refrigerator compressor, a commercial compressor or a scuba tank...also, if u use a refrigerator compressor (ac/dc converter 1000 watts) you could vacuum the barrel (research vacuum cannon) and then fill the storage tank with same compressor...

John, did you do any compressed air volume calculations to come up with your 51” long. It might be a huge waste of air that is blasting out well after the bait is shot out.
@Woods2Table
@Woods2Table Год назад
I did not do the calculations for this build. You are correct! It IS a a lot more air than is needed for this barrel length. For maximum efficiency I’d need more barrel or less air. We did a video after this one on optimum barrel length (link is in the description).

How far does this launch?
@Woods2Table
@Woods2Table 2 года назад
Its hard to say, since so many things affect the distance. Actual performance will vary based on air pressure (psi) in the cannon, weight of the bait rig, - and wind and ambient conditions have a big impact. We had an issue with our pumps on the day of filming and couldn't get the PSI where it needed to be, into a headwind, so we didn't get much distance out of it (relatively speaking). We've gotten well more than 300 yards out of it on other days. So much comes down to the pump and just being able to get enough air pressure into the tank. Thank you for watching Rob!!

If you know anything about safety. You will research to never pressurize pvc pipe. Because at some point in your life, it will explode in your face. You might say well, it’s pressured with water in types of services. And you’re right, but when they have a blow out with water, it does not explode, it basically just drops to the ground. Just coming from a 23year plumber that’s had lots of OSHA safety. Good luck. A better way would be with threaded pipe. I WOULD NOT USE PVC
