Google drive like iCloud, dropbox, something, it can save all of your files on the cloud, so if your pc crashed unfortunately , your files all gone, but you had backup in Google drive,so, never mind. People may not use hardware to store files anymore, cuz it’s so heavy and not convenient. So it will change the way people manage their file.
The files in google docs are on google's online cloud accesible only with an internet connection if you log in. This is slightly different (and is the same as dropbox... with more free storage) in that you have a google drive folder on your computer offline that you drag stuff into and it will appear on all devices where it has been signed in.
Great. Google stay on top of the ball when it comes to figuring out ways to improve existing products and meet consumers' needs. Others should follow their lead and do the same.
Having a copy of files on a server is useful, yo. I don't know whether drive will be more useful than dropbox, but if my harddrive packs in, I'll be glad I was using one of them.
best friggin idea i've ever seen in my entire life now i can share my part of the homeworks with other people in my group without gettin messages that the files are too big
Some graphic artist got a raise in pay for this one. Look at @0.51 The Google iconography is so instilled in our brains that all they needed was the colours and the squares would spell Google in our minds.
This is brilliant! Yes other have been there and done it already but it has just made my life so much easier! The api potentials will be the tipping point for most with some crazy concepts I am sure. As for datamining, the assumption is your current cloud storage doesn't do it when most likely they do.
Yeah what's even better is SkyDrive, Dropbox, and now Google Drive all locally on your computer, in the cloud, and on mobile devices! The world is nearing perfection!
I have a gut feeling that this would be a huge success. While social networking is NOT google's forte, synching, storage and multitasking is definitely G's game!!
Well, now I see that we are both right. I am Google Apps (free edition) user and in my price list it says 5$/year for 20GB extra space. I am already using that so now I have 5GB (free) + 20GB (paid), but in my other standard Google Account, I see that price really is 2,49$/month for extra 25GB. Thanks for the info.
I here to give my testimony. Google Drive is very good. I use it on my IpodTouch, Google Nexus 7, and my Asus Netbook. It's amazing how all my files and documents I work on are on all of my devices so I have them when ever I need them. I've been tempted to uninstall Microsoft Office because of how nice Google Drive is. As a college student I am constantly writing term papers, essays and building powerpoints, and I have been using Google drive recently to accomplish these tasks.
Google is completely free and already super easy to integrate because if you use gmail, google docs, or any other google product then you have drive. It's so simple!
I use google translate at least once a day ! Another very good tool, even if it's not the only one... C'est vraiment très sympa de savoir que l'on peut être compris même lorsqu'on parle dans sa propre langue !!!
difficulty in changing language, changing main folder and, for some reason, the preferences always appear on the 2nd screen of my desktop, my TV, forcing me to turn it on every time I open preferences). Dropbox's option for changing folder is the best I've seen so far in a Cloud service - you press change folder and it moves everything automatically in just one step without having to unlink your account or what have you.
Dropbox is a small company with only one office. They wrote the TOS for real people. Google hired a team of lawyers. Google's TOS mean that they can do whatever they want with your stuff. You still "own" it, it's just that you can't control what they do with it. It's like letting someone have your car and agreeing not to sue them. They can crash, burn, steal, destroy or otherwise harm your car, but it's still YOUR car.
It wasn't a sharing site, though. It was a storage site, and people took advantage of that to share files with each other. This is exactly like that The point is, is that I find it funny how megaupload got shut down and this will get off scott free since Google is too big to fail
Plus, Google provides Music (about 20,000 songs) and Picasa on a separate platform (integrated under Google). 5 GB of doc storage (and text recognition) is more than enough on top of the Music and Picasa platform.
The Lumia is a Windows phone. If we do see it for that platform, it'll probably be awhile. I imagine you could still use the web interface by using Internet Explorer.
It also says they can "modify, distribute, store, create derivatives of, and publish your work," potentially for money ("including for commercial purposes"). You own it in name only.
It is possible, just install google drive program/script from your distributors package repository and you can set one directory to be synced with Google Drive automatically. You get access like Google Drive would be a local directory instead remote.
Google drive is awesome way better than word. I can type out my essay on my desktop at home, my phone at the bus, and my laptop at school and I don't even have I print it I can just sent it to my teacher when I'm done. Good for people who like to do stuff last minute and also save paper and ink. Everybody wins!
I agree. If you are going to (pay), then the G offer sounds very reasonable, and MUCH cheaper than DB. Lets hope that the (use-friendliness) of the Gdrive is on par with that of DB
This is legal in a way that it is not overall sharing to a community, but to specific people AND their is a limit of info you can store so overall it should be legal.
You obviously haven't used Docs: you get to choose whom you want to share it with. By default, everything is private. You can change it to specific people (and they receive an email with a personal link that no one can use), or anyone with a public link, or public. If you share with anyone, you can also choose if you want them to edit, comment, or just view.
Does Google Drive have linux support? The real benefit of Dropbox is that all the dropbox directories and files can be accessed from the command line as well. Makes the management of the documents much more easy that slowly clicking 'windows'.
I use Sky Drive, I saw people using iCloud, I didn't know Dropbox before today but I really appreciate this new google service and I think you should test it too before saying that other services are better... Sincerly,
I have a question, can you publish a file to the web (viewable to everyone) using Google Drive? Because, GD offers 5 gb free and dropbox, only 2gb free, so im wondering if you can do that.
You forgot to add on Google's TOS: "Some of our Services allow you to submit content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours."
Hi google this app needs password protection that every time you open it,it should require a pasword as OneDrive already has it and its more protected then Google Drive App.thanks
Why are there Dislikes on this? What do you get out of thumbing it down? It's a service that exists if you want to use it, they're not forcing you to use Google Drive, or ditch Dropbox. Goddamn fanboys piss me off.
As always expected from Google. :) Google actually does stuff, as opposed to just taking technology from 4 years ago and claiming that it's new and revolutionary.
Google, i fucking love you. i download all my music off Google play so i get all my music directly in mp3 format and i frequently use Google drive. i don't have to waste space with microsoft word because google drive supplies these tools online. i dont understand why they havent attempted to make an actual desktop pc and/or OS for it.
I must agree that is has the same quality as Microsoft SkyDrive (only with less G.B. of free space) and it works basically the same (only using inferior Google Docs instead of Microsoft Office), and Dropbox is still (and will always be) my ''go-to'' cloudm but I really miss a Google Drive app for the Windows Phone, come on Google make one for my phone (*_*)
random question, if my hard drive fails will that delete all my files saved in my Google drive folder, because what ever I do in the folder happens online?
Yeah, I know that, but Google Drive is more suitable, that iCloud is 5gb, but I think it's only for photos, contacts and .etc from the iOS, dropbox is 2.5GB, I'll check that skydrive, thanks.
