Love your swing theory! Probably some of the best around, period. Your swing looks great. One thing i notice is that Tigers lead hip seems to be slightly more back and around at impact and lead shoulder slightly higher. Though I am sure camera angle might have something to do with this. Anyways, great work!
Thanks man! You’re 100% right. I need to get my left hip deeper which is why i look a little more crunched up at impact and my hips arent as open. Part of this is a setup issue. I need to engage my glutes more at setup by getting them a little deeper . This will allow me to use them more to help clear the left hip. My right shoulder is a bit more protracted at impact as well and I believe this to be due to my hips not clearing so i am adding more right arm than he does.
His camera angle is also going to make it appear his hips are more open as well but they definitely are much more open, really just the left hip is deeper which creates the look of rotation but doesn’t feel much like turning.
Definitely going to be subscribing to rotaryswing, I'd love to get my swing analyzed. After playing collegiate golf I recently took 8 years off and just getting back into golf and want to start playing tournaments again in the spring so I need to get my swing in shape.
Hey Chuck, loving the new material. Does it matter if the head back up a bit away from the ball in the second half of the downswing? You have a bit of that, just wondering if it is relevant?
Hi Chuck - when you say 'engage the core' what is the feel you are looking for here? I have heard you say this lots of times on RS but have never really known what you mean in terms of muscle mechanics/feels during the takeaway/downswing...
Ya exactly. I'm going to probably do a whole video series on Tiger's swing and get into the full details as to what I did and how to do it on the website for those who are interested.
Thanks! It's tied to how he powers his swing by pushing the left hip deep to create speed/rotation in the hips. I've taken a ton of hip speed out of my swing over the years to be easier on my back and replaced it with more right arm and that is (I think) the last big change I have to make.
I'm excited to try this new theory, I feel like it will be easier to implement and the feels will come easier. One thing I always seem to think about and struggle with is the takeaway, I noticed on this type of swing your hands seem to arc inside right away, and it seems like it is easier to stay on plan and come down from the inside with that, but I have a hard time doing that because in the past it has caused me to be really flat at the top. Is it just keeping the shoulder "steep" after the initial move away from the ball? Thanks!
It goes flat because you're pushing your lead arm across your chest. Tiger's takeaway arm movement is miniscule and body driven. Take a look at this video: rotaryswing.com/c4/123-fix-inside-takeaway-pushing-with-the-lead-side
Does 5 minutes to perfect release still apply to a right arm dominant swing? Should the progressions and light right hand through impact still apply or is it slightly different?
@Rotaryswing great, thanks, so body and left hand still does the same thing but right hand is just more active, and left hand still control the shape and trajectory?
It does matter as that is the engine of his swing. This is something i have worked on and will update with a new video soon as my hips are both more open and deeper at impact than ever before. Just took me a while to figure out exactly how he was doing it
Can also tell you are used to watching the club going back on the takeaway to check position, instead of keeping the head neutral and looking forward. I also fight this, we just need to let it go and trust our feels.
Why the title to this video of "GOAT Theory"??? Tiger is NOT the GOAT! Jack is the GOAT!!! 18 majors vs Tiger's 15... Jack's 19 runnerup finishes in majors... Tiger??? Not even close... using Tiger's own words about Jack's 18 majors being the GOLD Standard to measure GOATness...
Why don't you ever get on a launch monitor and show us your numbers if your swing is soooo powerful and tiger like. Like never on the launch monitor once??????
@Rotaryswing well excuse me, but all your videos are in slow motion too. Guess I was suppose to dig through thousands of videos to find those three. My bad.
