A little side note: The way hes treating his son is actually WAY nicer than he has been treated...as a boy. He was raised a Spartan...which is very similar to how a witcher is started.

They should start with ascension first then chain of Olympus God of war I Ghost of Sparta God of war 2 then got over 3 then they are completely caught up the story

One amazing thing you won't really be able to appreciate watching just the cut scenes, is that the entire game, save for the end, has no visible cuts. Start to finish it's one fluid presentation. They were very clever in how they managed to do that.

To be fair, playing this game not knowing hits different too. If you played the old games, you see the story through the eyes of Kratos. But if you didn't, you'll relate a lot more to Atreus. This is a great game to get introduced to God of War because while it still has Kratos as a protagonist, mostly everything else is new and introduced for the first time. If you didn't know Kratos before, you'll learn more about him alongside Atreus. If you did, you'll find out what happened to him since God of War 3 and how the events of the older titles has impacted him in after the dust settled.

@@TheKrislaf Yeah, it's really crazy how both of these ways to experience the story lend themselves to a very different but equally valid experience. Though even then it's probably worth going back to watch the old story after this one, there'll be a lot of "Oh yeah that makes a lot more sense now" moments there.

The game was created to be a single shot start to finish. Load screens are hidden behind walking through portals etc. This game won a ton of awards but at the Game Awards it was nominated/won: Game of the Year Best Game Direction Nominated: Best Narrative Best Art Direction Best Score Best Audio Design Best Performance Best Action/Adventure Game Most Anticipated Game

@44:35 I do love the “close your heart to it” advice since the world it’s not a friendly place. Not saying that Atreus shouldn’t feel what he is feeling, but he shouldn’t dwell on it if he wants to continue the journey… it only makes it harder.

the reason Kratos calls Atreus "BOY" so much is because when they were making the game, they hadn't completely set on a name for is character. It gets better throughout the duology of games

In the previous parts, "blood from the eyes" from the graphics. It's enough just to get acquainted with the plot using Wikipedia. I tried to play the third part - it didn't work out, so I just read Kratos' story before I started playing this restart.

For reference these Games GoW (2018) and GoW: Ragnarök are continuations from the Greek Saga which covered 5 Games. The Norse Saga happens much later but I highly recommend you guys at least watch a backstory video to cover key highlights of Kratos’ story from his time in Greece before his time now in Norway Also fun fact: All mythologies and religions exist in the GoW universe. Simply the territory of mythologies and the gods from each culture only exist as far as the people they are from so Greek Gods rule Greece, Norse Gods Rule Norway, Celtic Gods rule the United Kingdom, Egyptian Gods rule Egypt etc

I was never good at playing video games but I loved watching cut scenes from God of War, so I had this system, where my little brother would play it and I would watch his play through. I often made us popcorn or curry to enjoy while he played so it was great trade off.

It’s not diminished at all, though, if anything they wouldn’t have to do anything but read a summary of who kratos was before this. The story of this game doesn’t seem incomplete or unfinished when experienced on its own, which I’m sure was intentional

@@jaysax7381the impact is 10 times harder if you know and experience Kratos's story. Because it's the change in his character that makes the story great. The reason why Ragnarok's story got mixed reviews was partially because it almost completely threw the past out of the window.

I disagree. This was the first of the series that I played, but even after going back to the older ones I don't feel like my playthrough of this one was diminished at all. It fully works as a standalone story.

Christopher Judge, the new voice actor and motion capture actor, has an extensive career in the entertainment industry. I think he started as a football player, appeared in MacGyver with Richard Dean Anderson with whom he reunited with for Stargate SG-1. Voiced Magneto in X-Men: Evolution and Coach (what's his name) in the CGI Action Man series. Some other stuff then this!

finally one of the best playstation games. To understand kratos you need to know his older game stories. He is a legendary god of war, with a deep in depth story. The only difference in this generation is that he has a son whom he had to guide to make him better than himself

I’ve been looking forward to this playthrough viewing. I adore this story, and maybe my favorite game story. The entire game is a long one-shot. Would have been cool to have seen you both watch a summary of the previous three games. It really pays off knowing Kratos’ history before this. Seeing what he went through. Kratos started as a demigod but was elevated to full god by Athena when he became the God of War, after he killed Ares.

29:12 Don't want to spoil to much information. However, Kratos is an original character from God Of War. He's one of Zeus' children, born out of wedlock. He's not Aries, but has a "certain" connection with him in regards of being the God of War. Long story short, there's a reason why "parted ways" with the Greek Gods and came to this realm of the Norse! One of those reasons is that he did some "maclious" things. He now just wants to start fresh, and live a better life than before with his family. Hope this makes sense! 🙏🏽💪

One thing i appreciated in this game was the fact that the entire game is just a shifting camera with different angles. No cutscenes. No fade to black, fade to white, it's all done with one camera that just shifts to various angles.

You guys should definitely react to Red Dead Redemption 2's cutscene. It didn't win game of the year against GOW because it came out pretty late in the year but it is one of the most detailed games and one of the best stories I have seen. Arthur Morgan is just legendary in terms of writing.

Fortunately this game has several difficulty settings. If you want more of a casual playthrough it's fairly easy. If you want a challenge and are masochistic like me you can play it on Give Me God of War. Either way, this game and it's sequel are absolutely worth playing.

Check out Eivor. She’s the one that does the vocals and singing for the soundtrack for this game and the next, also for show the Last Kingdom. She’s criminally underrated despite how magical and talented she and her music is. At 9:50 (and a little before when Kratos enter in his house) they mixed the song of this game and the old trilogy when he was in Greece. 17:10 : I love how Atrieus mimic his father and take the same pose and trying to said something to him but can't.Then it's at the turn of Kratos to wanted to say something to him but can't too.

Wonder if due to all the comments if they're gonna react to a short recap video about Kratos. Even if they take a detour here it will massively come in handy for the overall appreciation for this story. Does anyone know the title of a good one for them to watch? It's funny to me that you don't know his past story, from the previous games. And in this game it looks like he's being stoic and acting hard-core cause of his wife's death. But if you know his past... it's a whooole different story :D Great videos btw

Also, I find it odd when atreyus is lighting up the candles offering the final prayer for his mother. The writing staff kind of abridged the last rights to the Nordic afterlife. The full version.(roughly as I remember it) "Lo there do I see my mother. Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my sister's and my brothers. Lo do I see the line of my people back to the beginning. Lo they call to me/you, they bid me/you take place among them in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever "

Kratos is technically a Demi god who killed the original god of war in the first game and took his place becoming and unlocking his full god potential
