The most annoying thing for me is enemy's following my dodge, dodging is literally useless if the enemy just stays at the same distance the entire time enemy dashes at you? Dodge? No the enemy will continue to fly after you until he hits you

Ahmmm...Dodging is made to dodge attacks, not attempts of attacks. It doesn't matter how many times you dodge if an enemy is sprinting at you with the intention to attack. Ya gotta wait until they actually ATTACK you and then dodge. They won't follow you 1000000/100

It comes down to the camera for me. I really don't like having a camera that close to the character when you're likely to get swarmed every 5 seconds and need to see more than a colored arrow to know how to react to what's behind you. AAA games are too worried about looking "cinematic". Even the witcher 3 update uses this camera trick, but at least in the witcher 3 you can turn it off. The hogwarts game had the same problem but since then combat is mostly ranged it's not as much of an issue.

It’s the tanky health spongey enemies thrown in groups combined with the bad camera that makes all the issues so much worse. Like the inconsistency stagger.

Hard to admit but 2018 is the superior game. What are you thinking giving us options to increase fist only combat with pommels and armor only to completely remove the fist skill tree and remove 80% of the moves? What are you thinking removing all of the best and most interesting runics and/or turning them into basic attacks and leaving us with barebones options? Build variety is better but that's to be expected in a sequel and shouldnt have to result in two core components of tbe combat system being stripped for parts.

Also what is santa monica thinking deconstructing the shield moves from the previous games into seperate ass shields in the game the new shields ARE SO FORCED CONTENT down into our throats its sad suddenly kratos could not gong punch and ground shield slam with his original shield now WTF theres a saying that if you arent add anything new to it dont change and butcher it Santa monica wqs so focused creating "unique" shields in the game that only leaves me in disappointment its like serving me a burger everything seperated from bottom bun to top bun instead of serving me a complete burger that 2018 did

It's not hard for me to admit, because gow 2018 gameplay and story is way better than ragnarok, in ragnarok they remove all the stances from shield and blades, only the axe still have them, but using both blades and axe feels nerfed, ragnarok doesn't have the heaviness of the hits from 2018 combat, and they completely removed the illumination effects from both blades and axe imolation, the weapons are so much better and look better while you are fighting in 2018, they shine with every hit the scenario around you, even the shield too feels better the effects and particles illumination. And they completely removed the barehanded combat, in 2018 when you get your defense higher then 230 every move from barehanded skill three, have a golden effect that applies massive stun and high damage, you can beat any enemy using fists and shield and is very satisfying. The combat feels complete and way more satisfying than ragnarok, I would choose the barehanded combat skill three over the spear skill three from ragnarok any day.

I died soooo many times because of camera problems... That was the main issue for me. Especially for bosses that have two bodies and you have to always keep an eye on the second one... Honestly it's kind of lazy design.

The double unlockable attack is so annoying bro, to do it without dodge rolling (I'm doing a spartan armor challenge run) is so hard and I'm on ps4 too so it's basically impossible to get right at 30fps 😭

Take it from someone who has beaten the bosses in this game every way possible. I used normal builds, overpowered one shot builds, and even the all Spartan gear and Burdens build. All of which I have uploaded on my channel. Everything he is saying about the boss combat in this game is true. Hvitserkr for instance is so much harder doing the Spartan/Burden build because of the runic shield. In 2018 they had a valkyrie that summoned adds but you could ring them out. Even as a level one. And of course you can't keep them all on screen at once. Its even worse when fighting the duo and trio Berserkers because Freya is worse then useless. Do you know how many times she kitted a Berserker into my back to kill me? Or how many times she didn't say anything when they shot fireballs at my ass!? The combat in this game has a lot of potential but it doesn't feel so good when fighting the bosses. Especially with the Spartan/Burden build.

Giving Runic shields to summoned minions is actually ridiculous. Having to worry about 5 enemies you can’t stagger is nowhere close to being a great design. And this is mostly why people tend to gravitate toward the one-shot builds I still play sekiro from time to time and I love how you can get super powerful with some buffs and martial arts. There is usually a tradeoff but usually, the boss fight ends up being fair and fun. In Ragnarök, thats the complete opposite. You either kill everything really fast or you just agonize 😓

Outside of just boss fights. Ragnarok’s combat encounters in general are just designed annoyingly. They give u an amazing set of tools and cool combos to use but never let you use them fully because the thing this game thrives at is making combat FRUSTRATING not CHALLENGING it’s a very different feeling. The combat system they have in the newer GOW games (2018 and Ragnarok) works best when it’s a 1 on 1 fight and gets increasingly harder when more enemies are added to the fray. So the way Ragnarok makes combat more “engaging” is by throwing about seventeen annoying arse enemies at you that u are basically banned from getting more than 5 hits on cos they will eventually just tank ur hit to get a cheap shot at you or scurry away even if you hit them. Mix all this in with the fucking annoying dark souls-esque parry timing shit on the enemies and u find urself not acc playing the game and enjoying the cool juggling mechanics but rather doing anything u can to bum rush the enemy to kill them fast enough so u don’t get swarmed. The game punishes u for pressing on bosses too much by giving u an unblockable that could be anything from an AOE attack, an attack u have to only back roll away from or an attack u have to precisely dodge at just the right time but u won’t know which unblockable of the 3 it will be unless you’ve fought this boss before so ur kinda just expecting to tank a hit regardless to learn what the bosses unblockable will be. So since u learned that game doesn’t like u pressing on bosses too much u decide to back away for a bit and do some mid ranged or ranged damaged but wait! They don’t like u playing defensively either so they add in the blue ring shield bash option! Which, at least for me, almost always popped up when I was too far away to possibly get to the boss in time to shield bash them causing me to take massive damage. It is infuriating how bad this games combat can be sometimes. Doubly disappointing when u saw how well balanced 2018’s was.

I wish they added 3 more enchantment slots...if not in vanilla game at least in NG+. There are some enchantments I wish I could use but they sit on the side for lack of space.

I remember when I fought the double hateful, I perfectly parried every parry-able attack, but still died because the camera just kept spinning and I kept losing my bearing. For any fanboy who can't think on their own and relentlessly defends this game because the franchise is popular, tell me you don't experience this: if you use lock-on, the camera keeps spinning plus the lock jumps back and forth among the enemies; but if you don't use lock-on, your camera turns very slowly and you can't turn quickly enough.

Don’t use the lock on feature and bump your sensitivity to either 9 or 10.

That's the thing, Ragnarok NG+ combat is so frustrating, yet the 2018 NG+ one feels so much more enhanced than the NG version of that game simply because they adds alternative attacks, much more relentless enemy that attacks you more often than running it away (Sigrun NG+.. ahem is way harder Gna NG+ because of this) and much more unforgiving for NG+ builds, that they can still one shot you if you are careless or does massive damage with no forgiving factor. Also it's hilarious you mentioned Bold Bersekers is more annoying when Kara has more attack, is tankier, attacks sneakily more often while not running away and her minions DOES not have those shield guard yep. Idk why they fix something is not broken.

@Djisso also i agree to your point of the drop attack, yeah forcing you to running around is already bad because you can't see their next attack is going to happen OR not. Even then, Hroft BS vengi projectile of 20 seconds happens more often makes me so frustrating that i'm glad in Valhalla there're builds you can do to nuke him from doing so in the first place. Overall i don't find Ragnarok NG+ enjoyable to say the least and i wish they went for GOW 2018 NG+ style where it's more simplier and only extra attack patterns is added, no more BS projectile mechanic that you are punished no matter what.

Agree with everything you said. And glad you said it because I thought I was crazy 😅. My biggest problems are the camera, and the rules not being consistent. I'm all for difficulty, but the berserkers and gna randomly breaking out of a runic or relic attack they didn't break out of before... I've nearly broken my controller multiple times. It's just not fun I'm sorry. I recently played through 2018, and narratively, and gameplay wise, it's the better game. As hard as it is for me to say that.

The black armor set was a life savor for me on new game + i almost beat the berserker boss 3rd try if he didn’t pull that sidestep throw on me. Man was down on one health bar.

You make a lot of very fair points that I complete comparing the berserkers to the Valkyries yes they were both abandon combat but the Valkyries will reset and go again will the berserkers play keep away all day long it really does ruin the flow of combat

It's a good point that u are making, BUT.... U have to ask yourself how many people (out of millions of sold copies ) do actually spend 300 or 3000 hours on game like that. Because that's what it takes in order to be able to talk about the game the way u do. And im not talking about 300 hours of running around and fighting random mobs,but actually Boss fighting . Only RU-vidrs to make insane content l, like yourself, and few other nolifers. Again,we are talking about millions of people. I just finished the game around 90% this weekend,and i had to put some berserkers and GNA on story mode. There is a threshold for every person before smashing furniture,monitor, controller,and bringing holy people from heaven back to Earth comes into play. Awesome content man, i enjoy watching every time. Thank you and keep it going

I absolutely hate the fact that Kratos get stagger so easily it is so hard to complete a combo but on the flip side even normal enemies are hard to stagger

Normal enemies aren't hard to stagger. If all you do is spam light attacks it'll seem that way. However, if you use special moves, and mix in heavy attacks you will stagger them extremely easy

I recently beat the game, and im just trying to beat Gna, and the Berzerker King before going on to NG+, but im getting completely wrecked by them. As far as I'm concerned, for GOWR they made my beloved Kratos a punk.

Here are the things I dislike most about GOWR's combat: Runic attacks. I know the whole point of them getting nerfed was because they were too powerful in the first game, but all they've done is kill runics and give their old, broken, spammy nature to the blades triangle abilities. Also now theres 6 runics so its even more spammy but they do nothing, on top of the already stupid triangle abilities. It feels like the devs regret adding runics at all in the first place since on higher difficulties, most runic attacks do less damage than a single melee hit, and they do not stagger enemies at all. It feels like they shouldn't have been added in the first place, and they most certainly do not compare to the magic of the OG GOW Attacks have no weight. On higher difficulties, you cannot stagger most enemies AT ALL with basic melee attacks during most of their animations. You have to rely on the fucking triangle abilities to do anything. This feels much more spammy than anything in the 2018 game. Why do I have to rely on this shit so much? Why do melees do nothing? Why do I have to play keepaway against the berserkers for 5 minutes just to hit them with 2 flame whiplashes when they stop moving. You dont feel like kratos at all when the most basic enemies brush off his attacks like nothing.

It's baffling that people say this is the best god of war, or even a 10/10 game, enemies slide to connect attacks, the player slide to connect attacks, stagger is inconsistent, the colored circles (red, yellow and blue) that sometimes appear at the very last second of the attack defeating the purpose of the system, 3 and a half weapons for the entire game, the garbage camera (probably the worst problem), a companion that gets in the way and is almost useless, particle effects overwhelm the screen, RPG systems to create different builds, but if it's working too well the game will prevent that your having fun, so what's the point of having the system at all??? and most of this problems were present in 2018, and the ragnarok did nothing to solve it

I would just like to remove some of the fucking projectile enemies. One or two is fine to make you switch to ranged. But the game has a fucking fetish for projectiles, I can't think of a single world encounter that doesn't have some projectile involved

What irritates me is how they give you these special attacks with cool downs, yet when you USE the special attacks (some are very slow to perform) you are just 100% open to enemy attacks. On the higher difficulty modes this problem becomes really apparent, as you can use ONE special ability and WHILE you're performing the attack you get hit TWICE and you're dead. You just fall dead after finishing the animation for the special ability. Like why? Couldn't have made our reliable attacks reliable? I just don't get that, it contradicts itself. Here's a special ability with a huge cool down, but it mostly just sentences you to death because you can't cancel the animation once it begins and it takes 4 whole second to complete. I died SO many times due to this. A massive developmental oversight IMO. Regular difficulty is fine but NO Mercy and Give Me God Of War modes suffer heavily from this problem. 😡. Special attacks should grant you protection since you're LOCKED into that animation until it finished. Ridiculous.

I agree wholeheartedly. My first playthrough was on No Mercy and from the start to the end I didn't really enjoy the combat that much, like I felt something was off. Literally all enemies, even the weakest and most regular ones, have hyper armor and performing any attack which has an animation longer than 2 seconds while having more than 2 enemies around meant almost instant death more often than not. I have finished the game 3 times now. First one on No Mercy, second one on Balance and third one on Give Me God of War, AND I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE COMBAT WANTS FROM ME!!! Want to be agressive and perform more than one or two attacks on an enemy? You will either get hit by the enemy you are hitting because it got hyper armor and just destroys you through your attacks, or you'll be hit by another enemy from behind the camera. Want to be more defensive and conservative in your approach? Then you will be hitting an enemy once or twice at most and then you'll have to evade/roll away quickly before getting hit by anything in the arena, and then repeat again and again until everyone is dead AND EVEN THEN you can still get hit by something from behind if the enemies are numerous. So because of how agressive the enemies are (they attack REALLY frequently, and if you have many of them then they almost leave you with no time to breath or think of anything to do) and the hyper armor that every enemy gets, the game kind of doesn't want you to be aggresive because it punishes it on the higher difficulties, which in a God of War game is unacceptable in my eyes. Add to all of this how spongey the enemies have become in comparison to 2018 and so not only do you have a combat that feels either incredibly frustrating because of the many unfair game overs due to the attempts to be aggresive when the game doesn't allow you to OR feels really slow because of the need to REALLY take your time with each enemy, attacking them once or twice and then rolling away and sloooowly eat away at their brick-like health bars, but you also have probably the weakest Kratos to date because an enemy group of three can easily take like 1-2 minutes in total to defeat them UNLESS you are willing to use your runic attacks and relics (which would ideally be reserved for stronger enemies). Have in mind that all my frustrations that I mentioned come from my experience playing on No Mercy and GMGOW, since from what I've read these are the specific difficulties that include the hyper armor for all enemies. Add to my frustrations about the gameplay the fact that I didn't enjoy the story almost at all, which was the main thing I was excited for coming from 2018, and not only am I left with the dissapointment of the year and probably of my life so far (when it comes to games), but also a game which I can't even call good on its own because it failed to entertain me in any way.

Honestly for boss that’s called “BERSERKER KING 👑” you would think he be a bit more ferocious, relentless, and tankier then hey 👋 imma get 20 feat and just shoot you with mini gun, rocket launcher, and a air strike for safe measures instead. Like 😅 …… WHY You would think in new game plus difficulty they would just add at least 2 new moves to these bosses instead of making them tank runic attacks, increase their level, and make them 2-1 shot you. Like why would you do this to people especially fans. I really don’t think they tested ng+ before releasing it. There something’s they could of did better instead of leaving it alone. And this applies to the weaker enemies too!!!!

The point about some moves not affecting bosses and normal enemies is so on point. In GoW 3, you could launch Zeus into the air with triangle and AIR GRAB HIM. In Ragnarok, I can't Hyperion Grapple to Thor or even Traveller. You have to glitch at best, if you want your hit properties to work.

Kratos is sop clunky. I love not being able to cancel attacks, and if i find myself attacking, then some enemy spawns in and attacks more quickly, i am doomed to watch it happen, and then get gang-graped by multiple hits. So frustrating. GOW franchise used to be so combat focused, and now the game is story focused, which is fine, but not at the cost of combat. It has become an afterthought.

The number of times the game put you in unsurvivable situations just because it decided you were doing too well against a boss that was supposed to be hard was ridiculous, why do they care if you know the mechanics and builds well enough to cheese a boss on a single player game

Camera is the big problem. Its WAY too tight for a game where you have enemeies all over the screen that can easily jump around The fact that they can legit gravitate toward you from Halfway across the area while in an attack animation also sucks bc whats the point of learning their attack patterns if you cant dodge them

I know this is late. I freaking love this game, but the combat is so fucking frustrating, you either kill the bosses really fast, or you do it slow over the course of 5 to 10 minutes and you could get completely fucked over if they decide they didn't give a shit about my freaking combos and just attack and one shot my ass and I have to do that shit all over again. It's just frustrating to see such amazing game devs not having the ability find different ways to improve the combat, sure there are burdens and what not in the game, but I don't like using that shit, I like have a proper build and still facing challenges when fighting bosses.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only having a hard time with the combat in Ragnarok. I beat the game when it was first released and haven't touched it since but when I heard that a new game plus has been added I decided to hop back in to get the platinum, but my God am I struggling. I know it' s been a while since I played it but damn the combat is so inconsistent now.

For me it was that it always felt more like a spell Que syste, then a active system, i had so many times i blocked last second but he was stuck in my Attack combo PS: Was the first Game for me i switched from hardest Diff to easiest just because combat started to be just annoying, specially the Alfheim Enemys escaping all the time even thought you just give them the hardest clapping in their life they just leave like nothing is happening.

So I’ve been playing back through this game recently and I came looking for a video like this commenting on the flaws of the combat. Put simply, beating bosses no longer feels rewarding. God of war was so good that I actually 100%’ed it. Every difficult boss that crushed me didn’t feel like the game was unfair… if felt like my skills weren’t able to keep up. Ragnarok is different. All of the late game “difficult” fights amount to a few things that are the lamest ways to up difficulty: 1. Throw an unreasonable amount of enemies at you and DO NOT sync up or optimize their coordinated attack pattern - the poison boss was the last straw for me… I nearly broke down in anger on the berserker trio where two were fire and ice elements and would actively chase your companion while the berserker stalks you-if you apply too much pressure to the berserker they start spamming spacer counters, which is insane, because the melee opponent already has reactive combos as well. There’s one case where the two spacers can spawn tracking elemental balls that can literally arrive in the middle of when you need to dodge/parry the melee opponent. I spent hours to beat that fight and then the game failed to save… so I had to redo it. 2. Make enemies give too few damage windows and flee often - this is baffling to me, because it’s at odds with the philosophy of the combat options provided to Kratos. He has so many moves that are essentially useless because they take too long to get off so the enemy dodges or the enemy actively responds to them with a counter that comes out too quickly… i had to change builds on bosses multiple times to silly builds that weren’t based on fun, but instead latency to get the attack off… why even make these attacks an option if they’re always worse and the damage scaling doesn’t justify having them? E.g. multi-hit moves with the fire weapon are a death sentence usually because right then you stagger the boss a mob (that does way too much damage) combos you into oblivion mid attack. The tracking on some attacks is also absurd btw and the fact that bosses sometimes essentially cancel staggers for some reason is baffling to me. 3. Over optimize hit timing to throw off player by making hit timing purposefully feel unnatural - There are so many attacks where the logical hit proc time is delayed like a 4th of a second or something and it’s maddening. Why do this when your intent is to throw 1 million enemies on the screen all of different varieties half of which I can’t even see. They needed to fix the pacing of fights or get rid of the multi enemy of screen nonsense. 4. Make enemies spongier - I feel like normal trash mobs are a pain to get through because of how the armor system works. It takes too many hits to shred shields and trash mobs sitting in boss arenas are way to hard to down. 5. Combat that exploits limitations in the actual game design-e.g. throwing 3 spacer opponents in the same arena where the game essentially forces you to down them in sub optimal orders-particularly egregious for berserker fights-it’s ideal to take out shooters first, but the melee primary enemy is so overly aggressive that you have to deal with them first and in doing so you’re trying to proc parries on an opponent that is off screen half the time. It’s idiotic. 6. Absurd damage buffs for enemies - I walked into way too many arenas on my play through where I was essentially getting 1-2 shot by the boss. It’s a bit counter intuitive to do this because it makes Kratos, the god, feel extremely mortal. All of this makes a game harder, but none of it makes the game more fun. In God Of War, combat felt like a dance, the difficult Valkyrie fights were all just unique and difficult enough to be interesting but consistent enough to feel fair. Hit timing didn’t feel overly optimized for making parry timing purposefully more challenging. Enemies had clearer tells. Also, the combat system feels overly complex and somehow slightly less fluid-there are too many options for combat and not enough reasons to use them all. Let me also emphasize… tracking on attacks is way to aggressive in a game that throws 8 enemies in the same arena with you. Also, the combos enemies throw out have too tight a dodge window. There are attacks that are literally not dodge able-you have to parry to stop them OR stay hidden under shield OR get nearly frame perfect side steps back to back-every single time in the fight. This breaks the flow of battle. Parry isn’t made effective enough. Why throw a combo at me that I essentially must parry to get out of more consistently just to not provide me a damage window after because the enemy retreats after. How can they retreat after my parry has staggered?

I think the biggest problem with these AAA games is that the devs do their best to provide a difficulty which is satisfying enough for all levels of players. They did a good job here really. It's definitely not perfect and new game plus esp on gmgow should have had a lot more redesign done to it and not just filling in the moments you have to breathe with an additional attack or projectile you have to deal with. Like for real none of these bosses have any dodging or blocking abilities other than teleporting away

When you make a god of war game you want to make the gamers to really feel the immense power kratos has and that he is a badass unstoppable killing machine. You want to translate that to the player. I can tell they did a horrible job. These combat designer should be ashamed of themself. The difficulty is not the issue. The games combat has so many interupting moments that detroys the speed and flow of the game. These are mine biggest issue. 1 enemies in packs attack to often and interupt the combos. 2 to many flying projectiles theat interupt combos. 3 The field of view is bad and it does not help that enemies in pack and projectiles ofte vime from the back or the sides. Indicator is not reliable and somitimes there are so many indicators at the same time you light up like a christmas three. 4 hold down the button to charge up the weapons. Are you fucking serious. When? There is no time when you are surrounded by eneimies and 5 projectilel incomming. Its horrible. 5 travrersal combat and fight enemies on differnt levels Jump up and down destroys the flow. 6. The effects of special attacks feels super weak. 7 No felling of weight or impact. 8 really bad effects from the weapons. 9.. Camera movement in combat sucks. Its static almost and does not follow what you do. There are alot more that i dont like. I dont like the inconsistent staggering. Enemies are made in a way that you are forced to play it more tactical and slowed down. It forces you to block,dodge,quick turn all the time during combat with multiple enemies. Then you can do a couple of hits and reapet with dodge,block and qiuck turn or run a way to get distanse. Its feels weak and boring to play like this. Single enemies or a couple are not a big issue in my opinion. Enemies using delayd attack or fake hit. Everything in this game is forcing you to play it way to much tactical or defense. Its slowes down the combat to a crawl. Its weak and wimpy and I hate it. There are alot of other things line the bad and muffled sound in comparison of 2018. Akward dialog like using modern day. The colors and design of the armor is horrendous. There are some bad pacing overall in the game. But some of these ard of course not the combat designer fault. They have already done so many wrong things. I hopw that they never lay a finger on a god of war game again.

You have some determination. After I finish the game I will never touch it again. The camera really ruins the combat and frankly I hate the difficulty spikes in the game. I can’t even experiment with combat because there are so many enemies I’m swarmed with.

I really hope Santa Monica think about this when they make the next games, and I'm talking about the hyper armor, it's inconsistent, it feels annoying, it's a bad design choice, if you want to stop runic spammers, there a better way, simply remove the cooldown, and make them charge by fighting, just like your weapons... I hate how enemies (even comon ones) will just stay there taking your hits like they are Broly or something, you feel weak! and playing as Kratos, there's no bigger flaw than that!... two other problems are companions, I like to have someone to speak with in the travels, but I don't like when someone blocks my vision with wings in the middle of the fight... also the camera, I like it the way it is, but it can be a problem while fighting giant enemies for being so stiff, zoom out the damn camera goddamnit! at least in these situations, I can't see shit when I got close to the damn dragon, it's annoying.

Auto-targeting is complete garbage! It's gotten me killed so many times; I'll be fighting one enemy and the targeting will suddenly switch me ro someone else! Complete BULLSHIT!

I beat both games on give me god of war, i see why people would prefer the system 2018 had but i do think ragnaroks combat is a direct upgrade to it in every way, attacks feel smoother and more balanced having the power up for the axe be something you just have instead of it being a runic attack was the right thing to do in my opinion. Hot take but i would take the draupnir spear and the blade of olympus any day every day over a half baked bare handed skill tree giving us the most useless moves in all of gaming that should have been unlocked at the start in the first place. Only thing i see that makes it a bit less fun is the camera but at that point just put sensitivity to 10 and use lock on for throwing draupnir or the axe. I feel like most people are blinded by nostalgia for 2018 but even tho 2018 is still an amazing game ragnarok just improves on everything, and for the people saying the combat feels weak cause of nerfed runics and attacks: womp womp a single runic attack cannot decimate an entire area full of late game enemies on give me god of war without needing to aim it time it or position it too bad if you want to feel like a “destroyer” set the game to easy mode and get an op build from youtube for the same experience.

It's not hard for me to admit, because gow 2018 gameplay and story is way better than ragnarok, in ragnarok they remove all the stances from shield and blades, only the axe still have them, but using both blades and axe feels nerfed, ragnarok doesn't have the heaviness of the hits from 2018 combat, and they completely removed the illumination effects from both blades and axe imolation, the weapons are so much better and look better while you are fighting in 2018, they shine with every hit the scenario around you, even the shield too feels better the effects and particles illumination. And they completely removed the barehanded combat, in 2018 when you get your defense higher then 230 every move from barehanded skill three, have a golden effect that applies massive stun and high damage, you can beat any enemy using fists and shield and is very satisfying. The combat feels complete and way more satisfying than ragnarok, I would choose the barehanded combat skill three over the spear skill three from ragnarok any day.

GBG is not normal he is the best player in this new GOW norse games, he completely broke the game moves, he can glitch the combat with his fast weapon change and use multiple runic at the same time.

the whole game was a colossal disappointment cloak was cool, as is the spear...but even that was not taken as far as one would think - wear are the pause combos and why is the final unlock faster throwing that is not as fast as most of the shields can cancel, let alone the semi auto shatter star...a shield that did not work as intended until ng+...6 months later. ragnarok is a "masterpiece" that is "meticulously crafted" if you play on story mode and enjoy marvel movies. i still cannot believe i actively and significantly dislike this game, when the foundation was more than there for it to be at least enjoyable. fucking movie games.

I'm glad that I came across this video. As much as I love GOW. I was really disappointed in NG+ bosses! The mechanics they have added I agree means only they are frustrated with the main mechanisms and though adding an avoidable attacks is a smart idea along with the ability to move out of your attacks without hyper-shield. And glad you mentioned the constant running away, like I'm not asking you to make them just stand and do nothing but the frequent movement is quite annoying and proves nothing. I fought the stalker where you fight the first Dreki and she just froze!!! 😂 I love the game but this trend of DS like bosses is getting undet my nerve.

I think the problems with Ragnarok's bosses are the same that malenia from elden ring has but even worse, malenia can ignore staggers, has unpredictable attacks (specially waterfall dance), forces you to play defensive and overall breaks the rules of the Game, but at least if you're very good at the Game or know certain hidden mechanics you can play more aggresively. On the other hand gna and the berserkers pretty much oblige kratos to be a pussy who only knows how to use a shield

Love the game and agree with you completely. I spend most my time waiting with the bosses. From Software got it right with Sekiro. The bosses are on you constantly and the update they dropped improved them amazingly. They became more aggressive, new moves, mixing up patterns, etc. it also has (imo) the best “hard mode” of any game with the chip damage for blocking instead of deflecting.

They tried to emulate the Soulslike genre without fully understanding why it works. In those games, you get chased by the bosses, not the other way around Except for Micolash in Bloodborne. Yeah, F That Guy.

This game is just horrible combat covered by pretty graphics, it’s not even about skill. It’s just about if you’re able to destroy your bumpers and x button(on PS4) until eventually they get you with one mistake and inf combo you to death(or just take most of your health in one non runic basic hit.

I just miss the "Oomph" and spectacle of the old games. Kratos back then was a force of nature besides being this little dude fighting giants and real !!! gods. The new Kratos is just a dude fighting other dudes and some dudes with magic called "gods". The personal story replaced the spectacle of this universe/world. While ( besides the ravens) i completed GoW 2018 i couldn't force myself to grind in Ragnarök. I did some side quests at the beginning of the game and just felt that it would totally destroy the pacing of the game for me. So i played just the main story and it was "ok". Never felt the wish to play the bulk of endgame content. I don't care for buildts and achievements, i just want a game that "rocks". I just feel that if the developers would have put more effort in the game itself instead of the side content the quality of the sigle-player game experience would have been better. Ragnarök is a good game but it never really felt as great as the old ones and even 2018 did.

None of the those bosses are optional, they are required to complete side missions, compared to 2018 it is a downgrade, litterly i get killed because kratos gets staggered by everything wich means 2-4 free hits before you can react.
