Goddards at Greenwich - the best pie and mash?

My daughter took me here when she lived in Greenwich A walk through the park to see that panoramic view and then pie mash and liquor

Love Goddards! Been there a few times, I too chickened out of eating the eels, my sister ate the stewed eels, the desserts are to die for!

Had the Chilli minced beef pie with double mash & liquor when I went in there about 7 years ago, scrumptious! 😋👍

Ate there on Monday. First time for pie mash an eels. Lived up to all my hopes and expectations. Bloody marvellous!

I worked for twenty one years at the NMMand the ORO. Every week I would callin for a double pie mash and liquor at Goddards, and even though retired I still get my pies from Jeff at Goddards.

My dad used to take me to godards in Defford in the early 80s were George godard used to serve the food with a roll up in his mouth grate days

been there....fantastic steak/kidney pie and liquor. Jellied eels were delicious. Couldnt be better!!

The liquer being eel juice is a thing of the past (although some might). Loads of pie and mash cater to veggies aswell so can't have eels or their juices. I make liquer all the time. Amazing. Gravy is for roast dinners.

Hi Darren, I'm a traditionalist and just couldn't have gravy on pie & mash, but if you fancy a change then why not. Incidentally they no longer make liquor with eel juice but you can ask them to give you some that you mix in. Which I do at Goddard's, Manze's and Arments. have also had eels, they are very good to eat.

Fond memories of Goddards and eating pie, mash and liquer sauce when i lived in Greenwich back in the early `90`s. It was only a small premises then compared to what it is now. Looking forward to visiting next time i visit London.

I remember once a few years ago I went to Greenwich and had pie & mash there, it was so scrumptious. Great vlogging yet again.

Pie and mash looked great and plenty of gravy, we enjoy pie and mash up here in Geordieland and we also have pie and peas which is basically a pie smothered in peas, delicious and you should give it a go 😋

i was there 2 weeks ago. They are all very friendly. The young lady asked me if i ever had Eel before (probably because of the bones). and she stopped me when i said : eel mash pie and gravy… she said : no no darling, you want liquor with Eel. 😂😂😋😂😂 i said , ok whatever you think best. anyway, very fluffy creamy mash, nice pie , and the ell, well one needs to get used to it 😂. But will absolutely eat there again next time i visit london.

Goddard’s is my favourite pie and mash. They were originally outside the market opposite the Spanish Galleon pub, next door to the noodle bar. I think it’s now a Gourmet burger kitchen. They had a second pie shop as well on Deptford high street. I used to live in Greenwich and probably ate there twice a week, loved it. The shop you filmed in was originally a pub. I’m going to have to visit Goddard’s again now. keep up the vlogs mate👍🏻

Pie and mash without liqear is actually a criminal offence in London penalty is you have to go up north to eat for at least a month 😀love you stuff boys 🇬🇧

Hi Darren, off the charts yet again. Greenwich was my neck of the woods in my 20's and early 30s and must have passed that pie n mash shop by the market a hundred times but always packed inside. You boys went early so good on ya and now I know what I was missing!! Not too far from Greenwich is a place called Maggies cafe in Lewisham that would be well worth a visit for you and the Macmaster during his trip. Massive, I mean massive portions and cheap as chips and used to be bottomless tea. The Irish owner (Maggie) and her son who runs the place are lovely too

If I lived near by I would be a regular customer of theirs as l like the food

We’ve been to Goddard’s at Greenwich, I personally don’t like pie & mash but my husband loves it & he agrees that Goddards is good 👍

Northern pie mash and gravy

I first got interested in pie and mash about 20 years ago. I've not tried Goddard's as it seemed vaguely "wrong" to me. Perhaps a bit of a tourist trap. Nevertheless I thought, "these two may know a thing or two about pie and mash, I'll check out the review". Fortunately the discussions about gravy and knives confirmed that I wouldn't be getting any answers here.

Food looks just amazing. Gravy was served nuclear hot. Appreciate the warning concerning “liquor” - I could’ve ordered that thinking it was some kind of ale-based (vs eel-based!) gravy.

You start with a knife and fork, then use a spoon for the left over liquor.

To be authentic it really should be pie, mash and liquor with chilli vinegar and pepper. Pie should be upside down and eaten with a fork and spoon and all washed down with sarsaparilla. Main thing is that you enjoy it though (and you certainly did). It looked great value for money and a great vlog.

Simple and great looking scran, steak and kidney for me. Great update chaps. (the fan in the background could do with a clean though). 👍
