Godox TT685, how to use basic settings and to trigger another speedlight for off camera flash. This video is a overview / tuturial on basic setting up the TT685n, TT685s,TT685c to use a s a flash trigger and receiver. The Godox TT685 is a great budget flash / speedlite that delivers bags of features for your money. The flash is available in Nikon, Cannon and Sony Versions.
We use the TT685n to control a second flash / strobe in this tutorial, you could also use the Godox x1 to do the same thing to trigger
We also explore the Godox TT685, TT685n, TT685s, TT685c basic settings and features for Manual mode, TTL , and RPT mode.

I just have my first godox and have another on order, so this video will be very useful. I will have a trigger, a couple of flashes and an AD200 for my lighting options soon enough, so I will be able to play about with those as I want to master the art of lighting a scene and not rely purely on natural light. Deeper looks at the options would be of interest to me...

For Focus Assist, it took me a while to figure out that on Nikon bodies, it has to be set for AF-S...NOT AF-C. The beams won't work unless it's set in camera to Single Shot. It was driving me nuts figuring this one out. Too many decisions in life.

THANKS for your video! Can this be done as you have done here BUT using a TT685 on-camera and a TT600 off camera (same way, with the 2.4GHz -- NOT the optical option)? I have these and just cannot seem to do it without using a trigger on the camera and having both flashes remote. The included printed instructions are not at all clear to me.

Hello. I bought a Godox TT685S for my Sony A6500. I mount it regularly on the shoe mount. Depending on the lighting situation sometimes the camera triggers the flash, sometimes it doesn't. Is there any setup for the camera so it will trigger the Godox Flash every time I take a picture ? Thank you.

for the tt685 and using a power pack, does the power pack provide all necessary power or do you still have to install the double A batteries for the electronics?

how many pictures can you take with AA batteries. How do you think, is the battery model (V350, or V860ii) more practical, or can the TT 350, TT685 model work well?

When the flashgun is mounted on a Panasonic camera's hotshoe and just used as on-camera flash, what mode is the camera set to? I can only get my 685 to fire when the camera is set to C1/C2/C3, there is no synch with any other mode although there is connectivity as the aperture displayed on the gun's display changes when you change it on the camera.

Thanks for the tutorial!! I’m almost convinced to buy some speedflashes. One question though: Is it possible to command a TT685-S with a TT685-C or N using wireless/radio master for HSS? Let‘s say I have a Sony and a Canon camera system and I‘d like to use both systems with these Godox flashes...I already looked up if it‘s possible to trigger a TT685-S with a X1T-C transmitter which naturally is on my Canon camera. Unfortunately though, the TT685 versions have platform specific firmware and can't be triggered by different platform triggers. That means the only possibility left is to buy a TT685-C and S version and a X1T-C and S version. If you like to shoot with the Canon you use the X1T-C to trigger the TT685-C which is the master for the TT685-S. If you shoot with the Sony you use the X1T-S to trigger the TT685-S which ist the master for the TT685-C. Hope you understand what I mean and can answer if this method is possible or not?! Cheers

According to the bumf about their equipment all this generation of godox gear can communicate with each other. I also saw it on a RU-vid video (sorry I cannot remember which one). Obviously you need your own brand on the camera (either flash or trigger), but the rest can be any version (there may be some limits on that one type of godox that does not have TTL, some functions may not work?). I have only just got one godox so far, so this is all basically what I have seen researching them, not what I have tried out. I have a second godox in the post, so once that comes I will be able to experiment a bit more...

Canon user, my commander mode doesn’t have an M channel, it has A-D channels available..how do adjust the flash power, while it’s trigger an ext light source? Can I? And can I shut it off?

Good Tutorial. Just confused , in this video , initially you set the master flash as wireless/radio master , but later it shows Optical Wireless Master & the other flash set as Optical Salve. correct me if i am worng. Godox TT 685 has 2 Master modes and 2 Slave modes, ie. Radio Master & Slave and Optical Master & Slave Radio system has around 100m working range while optical range is limited to 10 meter or less I guess in optical wireless you cannot use High Sync Speed (in canon)

Hi Adarsh, Yes the TT685 has two transmitter modes and both are shown, we had to do quite a bit of testing between the two modes because we found that have the transmitter and receiver so close caused interference issues, so you can see both in the video, but UI is very simular and we kept it as basic as poss, but well spotted 👍 . We..Because of the issues we found on interference, we have planned two more videos to go into depth on both settings to show the issue as well as distance short and long ranges of the flash. Great question on the HSS, not tried it but we will add it to our next TT685 video, i suspect your spot on.

Thanks for the reply @EPT, i haven't tried godox tt685 as master controller in both optical and radio transmitter mode. Only i tried using a Canon popup flash as Master Controller to fire off camera Godox flash TT685 (Optical slave for Canon optical protocol). it works Great, I can adjust power, can select ETTL or Manual mode remotely using Canon Flash settings. By default if popup flash is enabled, we cannot go higher shutter speed(>1/200s). anyways,Thank you once again. I will follow your future videos

When you are in TTl mode as compared to M... is full power on both the same. EX: +3 TTL mode = 1/1 manual ? I think yes.

Hi James, Yes you did see right but that was at full power on the main flash and the batteries not the best, its very rare that i have to use at that power, plus i always use a flash battery pack which dramatically reduces recycle.

this was a wonderful guide to start off.... can anyone help as how to set the flash zoom to auto? when switching on the flash it shows auto zoom, within seconds it turns to manual zoom and sets at 14mm....I'm not able to change it... please help to fix this... I use a TT685 for nikon

hi, did you use wide angle diffuser(Builtin Wide Panel), if so the flash zoom will automatically set to 14mm Thanks, Adarsh

Adarsh Kr ... thanks for responding.. I did use at one point of time but not now... even without the wide angle diffuser it's getting set at 14mm by default... I'd there any other setting which i need to change in the flash it in the camera?

I have no clue then.. i have noticed the flash automattically set zoom to 14mm if wide panel is enabled May be you use a wide angle lens less than 20mm and the flash automatically set to 14mm? not sure about this case, i need to test it with a wide angle lens.

Hi K.V Shashanka, The only thing i can suggest is make sure that the wide diffuser clicks into place. You can lift and drop the diffuser back into its resting place inside the flash, but unless you click it into the lock position ( it clicks when in place ), the flash will show 14mm only. Try that and let us know if it works 👍

I'm still a little confused. I have one of these flash units with the Xpro trigger and the unit has 2 slave modes. One is optical, like what you've used here and the other one is radio with the little antennae icon at the top. I can get the radio mode to work but not the optical flash mode. As I understand it, this can be used with any other flash source but I'm not sure about that.

The optical slave function should work fine when another flash goes off within visual range of the receiver

I have looked at this video several times and as far as I can tell I have set both cameras up the way you suggest. My off camera flash will not flash only the one on the camera.. What I want to do is be able to use the flash on the camera in TT and control the OCF in a manual mode. Both screens on the back of my flashes seem to look like the ones in the video but the OCF will not flash. Help please especially because your videos have been the only ones of Godox flashes that make sense to me. Thank you for the time you have devoted to the turtorials

I'm struggling with this too. Did you figure out how to use the on camera as well as an off camera? I know how to use an on camera as commander only (or the X1) with off camera flashes firing, but not if the on camera is commander and firing...?? Anyone able to help? Cheers

Hi mate, have the tt600 i can't get it work in any mode except slave mode. I have the xpro trigger canon. Just slave mode is fine until im assisting a wedding and the other camera flash is setting my flash off... i just want to use it ocf without someone else setting my flash off. Any help? Im assuming its a real simple solution i just have no idea, its my first flash unit

Just came across this video and saw your comment. Hopefully you have solved the problem, but if you haven't, this may help. If other flashes are setting your flash off, it may be that you have your flash set to optical mode rather than radio mode. I have a TT685, and have the option to set it in Slave mode as either optical or wireless (radio). I'm not sure if that same option exists for the TT600.

Are you triggering the flash on the top of your camera or are you trying to use off camera flash? If its on top of the camera (1 flash only), simply place the flash in TTL mode and your compensation to zero and you should have basic flash.

Chris I had the same problem. This happen because of time..try to set up faster time at least 160 or turn on hi-sync (the flash icon). Hope that this is helpful.

azerty qwerty it’s because godox flashes are also receivers/transmitters. They can trigger other flashes in a master/slave setup

13 second 1/1 recycle? I'm not trying to use this speedlight for that kind of abuse, yet sometimes I need to have full power for the strangest things. My Yongnuo 600 recycles full power in like 4 seconds. No thanks.

Very disapointing is the fact that Godox's best flash trigger XPro works with more than three groups and the TT685 has only three groups - A, B and C Actually if I want to manage 4 separate flashes I could not do it with TT685

This is why I avoid flash as much as possible... to much fkng about with more Buttons and modes, I really fkn hate em.. never a clear easy explanation either from Anyone only more confusing claptrap ! Why don’t you set it up with a camera, and go to step 1 showing us the setting and take the shot. Then the next stage step 2 and do the same, so we see the differences, and so on ? Just stabbing at buttons and ranting on and on doesn’t help anyone ?
