Saw both Color and B&W… Love both versions… took friends to both… the ones who only saw B&W stated that is the only version they ever want to see… the friends who saw both agree with me… I can watch both… and I own the Japanese box set… And I watch both… best film I saw last year… and probably the best film I have seen maybe this decade… EPICNESS…!!!

This was the first movie in a long time that I had to lower the subs in risk disturbing the neighbors. Also those Godzilla screams were incredibly LOUD. The dynamic range of the mix had me thinking of grabbing the remote a couple times. Great movie!

@@hatoraidcowboy In my area, the movie only got a grand total of two screenings in Dolby for the early fan screenings and then it was only in IMAX. I wish my AMCs gave it at least one Dolby screening per day, because I would've gone multiple times.

Im looking forward to experiencing this one soon in 4K. Gonna get the import from ebay. I love that you said something in this video about dolby atmos that most people dont understand about what dolby atmos is capable of doing to a movie....when you talked about it extending the sound outward in all directions beyond your walls. When I try to explain that to people who have never experienced dolby atmos at home, they never can quite understand,...until they come to my place and think they are hearing things outside hahahahaha thanks for this review mannnn!

I think the reason you’re loving the Atmos is because of the SPL and the fact it’s mostly a static mix and as such it’s being played by all four of your heights and imaging as one central point. Analysis of the track on AVS reveals its not very dynamic wrt how Atmos can be. But it’s a treatment a lot of people will love. SPL and activity to most translates to GREAT. Even if it’s actually a bit of a lazy mix. It’s hard to describe.

Interesting. I dont know how it was mixed as far as static but I gotta disagree I think the mixing is extremely dynamic. At least how it sounds coming out of my speakers. The channel separation is phenomenal, the spl is perfect for a movie like this with a truly frightening Godzilla, and the dynamic range is unmatched. The sound design is a work of art. And we have to remember too Director’s intent….This is how the director wanted it to sound on 4K. But I will agree that I LOVE this mix. My new #1 all time 😁

@@hatoraidcowboy by dynamic I mean extended use of objects and not static. I do not mean in audio range. There’s extensive talk an about this mix on AVS. It’s not a bad mix. It’s just not a creative one for lack of a better term. But like I said. Most people will love how booming and loud it is. Which is what a lot of people like. I do too. It’s an extremely immersive experience.

@FrankieKennethL Yea I know what you mean lol I can’t talk to how it was actually mixed. And I always wonder if the people in the forums have first hand knowledge of how it was mixed. Unless they got an insider from Japan who mixed the audio for 4k feeding facts, I typically dont pay much attention cause everyone on the forums thinks they are an expert lol They could very well be right but it’s hard to say. I just know it sounds incredible especially with only a 15 mil dollar budget, this mix embarrasses so many of the US movies being mixed for home release. Hats off to Japan. And thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@hatoraidcowboy several people have shown the trinnov at is viewer and show how several scenes are mixed. Most of the negativity circles around its meager use of wides (very very little) and the fact that it uses only middle tip heights for those w six atmos. Those w 4 like me, it’s not bad cause it just uses all 4 to image in the center. Again, I’m not saying it’s a bad sounding movie. But its biggest thing going is spl and lfe. And that will make it very popular

@FrankieKennethL Yea Shane Lee showed that in his video. I imagine they mixed it for static because most home theater systems dont have 6 channels. So it prob made more sense(to Toho) to mix for a more standard configuration. But I’m just speculating. And I think wides is even installed less 6 heights. I have 6 heights but out of the almost 500 movies there’s only a few with dynamic mixes that will utilize 6 height channels. The movies that do sound even more immersive.

Ok Bro, my Japanese edition of Godzilla minus one came in today (Beautiful Box Set) and HELL YEAH the Atmos is so spacious it kills Dune 2!!! The Physical Media 4k disk has so much fidelity, dynamics in the subtle scenes and the LFE IS INSANE, SO TIGHT AND PRECISE! Luv how Godzilla growls are placed high up in the corners of the room!! You were correct it being better than Dune 2

@@hatoraidcowboy Running a Marantz av7706 to a Monolith 7X and an Outlaw 5000, 7.1.4 with 4 subs( two svs PB4000'S and two near field svs pb2000 pros) I have all SVS Ultra Towers for Left and right, SVS Ultra Center, SVS Ultra Bookshelfs for sides and backs, and SVS prime elevation for atmos (4). Now all my SVS Speakers are fully built inside with beefy and better crossovers, that I built from GR Research, the Ultra Towers took me two weeks to rebuild and I lined all the cabinets with No-Rez(sound absorption material) each Tower had to have two boards built and trust me it was crazy, but Danny at GR Research

There is no copy with English subtitles. You have to manually download them on the Zidoo after you’ve ripped the physical disc.

Dune P2 is like the best of the best, as for Minus One it seem to be more a bombastic movie but not as much rich in term of sound layers and channel separation for music, effects, voices, etc. I do not own any Monster movie but this one, I'll surely pick it up when it will be available here in Montreal. Both standard and B&W versions 😁

Sounds like it defeats the concept of having a physical media of the movie in the first place. Better wait for the US version to come out, hoping that the audio and video quality would be on par with this Japanese version.

If that is the case, then there should be no need to keep physical media around. People should just buy the digital copies of all movies. 1. Please stop showing so many spoilers, and letting it run for so long. Not only does it spoil scenes, but it also makes the review run too long IMO. 2. The audio really impressed me, loved it. 3. The movie was shot at 6k, mastered at 4k, but looked like a 1080p-1440p upscale depending on the scene. The first shot between the airplane wheels looked like straight up 1080p and even had macroblocking. The chapter when they first show his home town, the camera shot is blurry/lowres, but the city name text that appears on screen is full 4k. So it looks like 4k text overlayed onto upscaled 1080-1440p footage. I was standing right in front of my OLED to confirm what I was seeing from my seat. Another guy in a group I’m in complained about the same thing. Did you see this too?

Well it’s known that this movie was made on a 15 million dollar budget. So there’s definitely scenes where you can tell they were using props or lower resolution. I’d have to watch again to see if I experience what you did, but even in the theater I noticed at times where the budget was obvious. But considering how amazing this movie is I’m okay with some minor gripes. Hopefully the success of this movie will afford them a higher budget for a sequel. RU-vid is a large space with billions of users everyday. Which means billions of users with wildly varying attention spans. And I’d recommend watching my movie reviews after you’ve watched the movie so you dont get spoilers. Thanks for watching!

Did you watch it any other languages? If you did, the Japanese audio with subtitles is the only one that has the dolby atmos.

Godzilla vs Kong is good but it's just another Hollywood cookie cutter big budget blockbuster. Minus One was made for 15 million and blows away any other Godzilla movie by far and it's not even close.
