@@artfulsparton7642 idk if that counts. they actually made new stuff, they just made it worse than what they promised it would be. a closer example would be like Nintendo with the N64 emulation on Switch having broken visuals at launch.
My entire relationship with my brothers is founded on playing these two games on split screen in the tiny TV in our bedroom. There were only two controllers so we’d trade off every time someone died, and sometimes we’d invent our own minigames and ignore the actual game. Also in my humble opinion the original battlefront 1 menu screen is the best menu screen ever created.
@@charliecordell4760 The servers actually have had more players recently because of the re-release. We were all amazed to find a server with 64 players, but unfortunately it’s always the one server with no heroes or space and annoying ass CTF every other round. The real amazing thing about Battlefront though is the insane mod library. It is comparable to Skyrim or GTA V or Doom.
For those who are not familiar with Aspyr, they have a long, looong history of doing precisely this: taking beloved games, making unplayable lazy ports, charging exorbitant prices for them, and never fixing them, especially when it comes to Star Wars games. Please let this company go out of business. Do not ever buy anything from them.
Really amazing they were originally chosen for the KOTOR remake, but whatever aspyr showed off was so bad the reigns of the remake was taken away from them
I'm suprised Aspyr still is alive. They are the most incompetent game company on the planet. Every single port and project they work on is trash or at best, incredibly mid and unoptimised. I knew that instantly when I played the PC port of the force unleashed, the game is locked to 30 FPS. A PC GAME LOCKED TO 30 FPS. The CEO of that company ate too much lead paint on his toys as a kid for sure
Bro, Animal well has me hypnotized when i watch the video's for it. The music and ambience is beautiful. It feels like a safe and comfortable game but also something that will scare and keep you on your toes. Very excited to play.. Thank you dunkey! and Billy Basso
Thank you for remembering MoH Warfighter!❤ I feel like the industry has been trying really hard to cover up and act like Medal of Honor 2010, and Warfighter never existed. Those games were really solid shooters and exceptionally well made military sims. The first campaign brought tears to my eyes and it made me feel represented.
it was for sure, the problem is that the whole collection is a flat downgrade from the originals, riddled with new bugs that weren't there before.@@coolman2805
honestly. rather than fighting the culture war Jason gives us laughs and a genuine reflection of himself. I've always loved Dunkey. Even my boomer Dad is drawn to Dunkey and giggles at times. Even being a "baffoon", but really the jester of life, he's actually giving such immense value to people and every eye can see it. Thank you, Dunkey. God bless Lea and your children too.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 2005 is my second favorite game of all time. It sucks that the collection was launched in such a rough state. Thankfully the old versions are still on Steam with great mods
You ever play any of the Battlefield Star Wars mods like Galactic Conquest for BF1942? It wasn’t perfect but kinda insane the level of care that went into it, full scale fleet ships, variety in locations, and other odds and ends.
@@thealldayspecial I did! I absolutely loved the Star Wars & Desert Combat mods for BF1942. Those mods don’t have any active servers (DC does from time to time) but tons of people still play the BF1942. I highly recommend checking it out again and using some HD/remaster mods from ModDB. It’s still insanely fun.
At 3:10 you can see one of the most infamous grenades spots from the original on the Rhen Var map. The other guy is standing right next to an ammo droid spamming nades through that small gap in the wall. Absolutely vicious spot
sounds like good balancing that totally shouldve been kept in. Nothing like standing in one single spot the entire game pressing a single key to throw fucking grenades@@JesseDishner
@sainttrish7544 the reason was because it was a checkpoint so close to the other team's starting checkpoint. The balance and flow of movement was very chaotic on that map, and that position could be reached from several points, including turrets to the left, so you were out in the open from three other sides, so it wasn't really practical to just stand there and lob grenades., but it did allow you to sometimes hold off dozens of enemies while hoping that the rest of your team were taking care of their responsibilities, because if they didn't you were screwed.
underrated video easter egg at 3:22 where a guy is complaining about "weapon switching" and the game censors the "ching" part of "switching". incredible gameplay
When I was born my dad said "one day son, you will play Animal Well, and all will be right in the world" since I was an infant I didn't understand him and I pre-ordered Battlefront instead
I got this game for Xbox to play split screen co-op with my son and at that it excels. I’m aware of the problems with it and haven’t tried online multiplayer myself, but for sitting on the couch next to my son playing split screen multiplayer, it works flawlessly. To me it’s worth the $30 I paid for it. Edit: I’m definitely wishlisting Animal Well.
I appreciate all the menu screens tilted 45 degrees away from me, really makes you feel like you’re watching over your older brother’s shoulder play battlefront
@@TheGuardDuckyes. Super mario games also had player collision, you know, in a casual multiplayer platformer. Just because its an old feature doesnt mean its entitled for a return
that ending montage was actually just me everytime I try any pvp multiplayer game. Needless to say I've long since learned to just stay in my Adventure/RPG lane
It's so frustrating man, it's like everyone in these games can murder you within 0.2 nanoseconds of you being on screen while I need 7 whole seconds to aim at a guy and shoot him once. I bet they can't beat me in a dark souls duel though.
@@namelessliberty9869as someone who started playing rainbow 6 seige, I feel this tbh. I always end up getting shot and dying to someone on Adderall meds and have superhuman reflexes before I can even process seeing them. that and toxic teammates that'll team kill or throw the game over a new player. it really makes it hard to get into I wish people would take games less seriously and just enjoy them like most people used to
I used to play this game with my step siblings on our ps2 when we were kids, we spent hours and hours, days and days on that game 😂😂 was so much fun! Not thought about it in so long, thanks for the reminder :D
@@kendawgthemasterdude I was once in a match with my brother (local, not online because we never had that), and it was down to just the two of us on opposite teams on the Geonosis map fighting in dueling Gunships. I noticed that no matter how much I shot him his ship kept regaining health, and he just outlasted me. Turns out it was because he was an engineer who kept repairing it.
The only thing funnier than imagining Dunk installing, booting and finding online sessions for all those games in the end montage is when you realize he purposefully omits OW
The montage at the end hits hard. I also have fond memories with past games but when I play it again it’s just not the same. I get this sudden motivation to replay these games only to stop playing the next day or so.
Video game nostalgia is such a paradox. On one hand, it’s a reminder of a simpler time when games weren’t corporate products constantly begging for money from you and publishers couldn’t take away a product you paid for. On the other hand, game design and visuals have evolved so rapidly in the past 5 years alone that even playing the worst games of 2024 so far is more bearable than being reminded that game you adored as a child feels super clunky now. Doubly true if you are nostalgic for the N64/PS1 era.
Idk, I recently replayed the syphon filter trilogy for the ps1 and had a blast. Some games hold better than others when it comes to game design tropes that back as kids we didn't care about, but today we can see how boring/stupid/inconvenient they are. Graphics aren't the issue, but outdated game design.
idk man, Metal Gear Solid 1 on PS1 still fucks@@JeffreyThrash Also been replaying the first Max Payne and it still is really fun. Just depends on what older games we're talking about, definitely are quite a few that just don't hit like they used to, but there are tons that still do.
@@JeffreyThrash I came back on my wii recently to play super mario galaxy 2 and I can say it was super refreshing and the most fun I've had playing a video game in a while. I've just ordered the first galaxy game aswell so I'll 100% that too when it comes through the mail. It doesn't take long to adapt to the clunkiness of controls, as long as the game itself is amazing, you won't be as bothered about clunky controls.
During the whole bit at the end going through different games, I was thinking to myself, "what's the punchline, what's gonna be the game that's good at the end," and you know what, should've seen that one coming. He got me good, I have to get it now.
the punchline is that if the game is multiplayer - its gonna be like that. Stop ignoring singleplayer games just because you can’t flex your skills in them
I've been looking for the definition of why I've stopped playing online games. I always thought it was because I was frustrated to easily, now I know I was just not having any fun ✌️
I hate to be that guy, but that's the definition of a skill issue. Fr tho, sometimes you just have bad matches. The way to remedy that is to have friends who you can enjoy any game with and not to take things too seriously Also, personally I can still have fun with competitive games because I don't care about stats and ranks, but it might be good to just avoid them outright
@@cosmicpanda7043 you are referring to one subset of games, probably FPS, which I rarely played online, I am referring to multiplayer games in general, MMOs, survival, looter shooters etc, there is a difference between fun/immersion and winning, winning does not always equal fun, sometimes winning just over takes addiction and ego fulfillment, and playing with people with that mindset is tiring and choir like, this is what I am referring to.
@@toot7642 I mean it applies to any game where you can be at odds with other players, be that survival games, mobas, rhythm games, RTSs, etc. To each their own I guess, but I will always enjoy shooting the shit with my bois. It's no different than going out to the bar or something; just a venue for us to talk and joke around. Singleplayer is great too, of course. Just depends on what you're looking for at the time
This is why I don’t obsess over “realistic” visuals. They all come from a single source-real life-then for some reason they desaturate every color except the red bloodstains, because I guess only red is a realistic color. Now you understand why “realistic” graphics are doomed to look same-y.
You think this is overly samey? Clearly you don't remember the BROWN era! When every single fps had a colour palette consisting entirely of grey, beige and brown.
I never was able to play Battlefront 2 online in my youth so playing Galactic Conquest again is more than enough for me and I am so happy to experience such a significant part of my childhood again.
I like how dunkey went back to many previous games. But my favorite was when he went back to Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017), playing as an Ovissian Gunner on Crait! My favorite map! And if the classic collection still has a bumpy lane, just switch on back to the original separate base games, they're still as fun even back then.
SW Battlefront II is my favorite childhood game. Yet, being new to video games as a child, I was terrible at it for a while. Now, thanks to this broken re-release, we can ALL be terrible at this game together!!! ❤
ive tried to watch this through at least 3 times, and every time i get so excited that animal well has a release date i just start celebrating and forget dobley also made a whole video also
Starting the video w a sudden trailer like a direct actually is genius bc i don’t think i would’ve clicked on the trailer itself and now i want animal well
One of Dunkey’s funniest montages with huge references to many beloved titles, AND ACCURATELY SHOWING WHAT BEING BAD FEELS LIKE only for it to be an animal well ad. I’m gonna buy animal well now. So will all of you.
I had to pause the video just to check if I was really hearing the castle crashers blacksmith soundtrack in the background. I don't know how many years it's been since I've heard it, but it immediately came back to me haha.
Glad to finally have a release date for Animal Well. Congratulations, guys. Looking very much forward to playing it and saying, "aaahhhh. Look at these wells."
After they patched day 1 it's been fine for me, although I've not played online. After the day 1 patch the launcher was different so my guess is they accidentally went live with a pre-release build. In any case, non-online on playstation is absolutely fine now.
the ending montage reminded me of your classic "teemo is the best right now" vid, really got hit with the nostalgia of watching that back when video games were actually good
I loved this game as a Kid and I still love it now. Though, i never do multiplayer online. This game has always been best to play with local co-op/splitscreen/LAN.
Yes - you could set up such epic battles because the players are so much better than the bots, but they still mattered in the outcome of the game. It was like two masters in a dual but on a real battlefield. My son and I used to play these for hours every weekend, Hoth would have some especially epic duals: being down to just me holed up in a bunker against him and 60+ reinforcements still waiting, switching from the technician (med/supply pack) to the assault (I think: land mines and rocket launcher) while trying to keep the ammo and health Droid operational. I had the award pistol so I could hold them off, such epic battles...
the montage at the end is spot on. Sometimes a game is so bad it makes you question why tf do you even like video games and if they were ever good to begin with
I think he was kinda clowning how castrastrophy-ing youtubers like you are acting about classic collection LOL like you guys are farming the nostalgia bait concern trolling while dunkey is having fun is how I read it
First time I ever played Star Wars Battlefront was in my friend's attic. It was on a projector screen and we were jacked up on Mountain Dew and Monster. Didn't sleep at all that night, seemed like a fever dream, still remember all of it. Life was great back than.
