Lair actually had one of my favorite features ever: a full gallery mode that shows hundreds of pictures of the devs working on the game, celebrating events, having fun together etc. Incredibly wholesome and human.
Ratchet and Clank had a dev museums after beating the game. Got to actually walk around a museum full of developer notes, designs, models etc. Really good feature of a game for sure.
@@haldalas Which is a bummer, cause if they got the lady who did the intro voice it'd be worth something. Not being able to keep it together for Dinobreak? Man fuck AI man, robbing us of hilarious VA now too
@@Nothingseen Hearing the voice actress laugh while saying the name of the game, and they used that take, was quite something. Fiver isn't free though... it's like, 5$.
Maybe a AVGN crossover where Dunkey is just a voice in his head and they play shitty games. Obviously there's plenty of trash to shine some light upon. I'd watch it.
same, there are games out there that I know are fucking horrible... but I just want to know EXACTLY how horrible they are... without paying to find out.
If you can manage to snag a copy of the Nanosaur II free trial (since it's no longer sold), that's an awesome title. You play as a Pterodactyl with a jetpack and laser guns and you steal eggs back and destroy the turrets/structures set up by the evil time traveling raptors who also have laser guns. You can even keep playing after the trial "ends" and beat the whole game. Truly a hidden gem.
Pangea Software always made the best Mac games of all time for us who grew up without a console or PC. Both Nanosaur games are great in totally different ways, and there was even an officially endorsed fan port for Nanosaur 1 to modern OSes including Windows
No way I've been looking for the title of that game for over a decade cuz we used to play it on the middle school computers in class, every computer had it. Everyone played.
I want to believe she's a voice actress that sent an audition as a joke and got the gig. But really the Dev probably knows her and convinced her to read it. 27 takes and that was the best one...
prolly AI (maybe something similar like The Finals did) cuz sounds weird af and the devs used AI in the promotional images on the steam page of DinoBreak
@@systemisdead I'm tempted to believe this, but I have one doubt: When she says "Eggs", there is a slight hesitation and she says "Eh-eggs". It sounds more like someone who was reading the script for the first time and was legitimately taken off-guard. The in-game voice is 100% AI, but the narrator does sound human because of those little details and those would are typically present in high quality AI models. It is highly unlikely that the creators of this game would have a high quality voice model and a cheap ass TikTok narration model in the same game. It makes much more sense that they found someone on Fiver for the opening narration to make the first 5 minutes of the game seem like thought and care went into it (probably for a trailer).
After recognizing Frantic Flea from SNES Drunk's recent video on it, it was super nice to see you give him a shout out. Love the channels out there that do sincere coverage of all sorts of forgotten games.
Idk where the memes stop; but that robo cop game looks like it's half baked af and would become boring after the first fire fight where you realize that game is just a glorfied god mode rail shooter with robocop paint for nostalgia.
I recommend Chulip (PS2) for a future episode of Hidden Gems. It's a boy meets girl story full of bizarre moments, characters, and gameplay. It's one of the strangest games I've ever played. I would love to see Dunkey do a full playthrough and discover his reactions to this unique game. Please make more episodes of Hidden Gems, this is a great new format. There are so many weird, obscure, terrible, etc., videogames out there just waiting to be roasted by Dunkey. And there are plenty of little known enjoyable videogames (Chulip!) for Dunkey to discover and love as well.
Thank you Jim for all your hard work on your Hidden Gem show, I always want to hear about your latest finds : ) Please consider Wallace and Gromit Project Zoo for next week's episode
If you like the film, good feeling shooting with lots of gibs/gore and like a power fantasy you will probably enjoy Robocop. It's not perfect but the devs show they have care for the franchise and they aren't AAA nor have AAA money so I think they succeeded. I think people forget games are entertainment, sometimes all they need to do is be fun (Game isn't fun for arcxcc, please respect his opinions) and not raise any bars.
@@Gatorade69 RoboCop is not a mere power fantasy, that's a pretty shallow view of the film. I'm sure the game is good enough for some mindless fun with throwing guys and stuff, and a fan might enjoy it, but that doesn't excuse shallowness, especially since the film it's based off was actually about something more interesting than a mere "cool robot guy shoot other guys" spectacle.
I come to watch your videos because I know I’ll laugh a few times, think a few times, disagree or agree a few times and enjoy every second. It’s crazy how you just be yourself and it’s refreshing every time. I also watch your vids when I feel down or sad or whatever. They make me feel better. So when you drop a new vid, I’m quick to click on it. Sounds stupid I know, but thanks, whatever happened to bowsers big bean burrito?
@@gamefreaknitro Jesus. And I thought I felt down from time to time, bro it’s ok if no one ever expressed genuine gratitude or emotion around you, we’re not all robots. Just saying
Dinobreak really is the first and most underrated Egg-type game, truly revolutionary; such a shame to see the genre take such a deep nosedive after its release.
It’s the least of Dino Break’s problems I know but my brain had me rewatch 2 seconds of the video to confirm she loads an invisible magazine into the grip of a revolver. Landstad confirmed
Wow!! When my family and I saw the graphics for A-Train HX High Definition 720P, they were so incredibly realistic that we actually thought there was a train coming out of the screen towards us. We all screamed, dove to the ground and said our tearful goodbyes to one another - image our surprise when we realized it was only a game for the Xbox 360!
I want a version of this format that includes both good and bad games (based on reviews scores), but he reviews them both with the same level of enthusiasm and wit, and it’s up to us to figure out if the game is good or bad based on what he chooses/is forced to compliment about the games. We can check our scores on metacritic after the video XD
I've been a fan of of Hidden Gems with Jason Dunkey since the beginning, and I gotta say: this is the best episode yet! So many undiscovered masterpieces
Only Dunkey could put a hidden gem among hidden gems in his hidden gem video. Among all the slop, a game that looks like fun, a game that I'd never even realized was a thing even though I'm a fan of the basis for it, an older game that gives you actual freedom and lets you take actions that were unthinkable for the time. Thank you for showing me Lair Dunkey; I'll never forget this.
It just hit me that I have been watching Dunkey videos for about a decade now. I was looking back through all the videos and there are some that came out 2-3 years ago that feel like it was just a few months ago. Thank you for the all the entertainment over the years Dunkey.
I just had whiplash having Dunkey mention Lair. I literally played that games for hours on end as a young kid bc I just loved the fact I could ride around on a dragon….good times
DITTO. When I saw that fleagame or whatever I was thinking "Huh, snesdrunk just did that", then showing the tiny clip at the end I was like 'Ohhh now I get it'
I was super excited to see the crazy frog racer as I was playing the game as I kid! A bit disappointed that there was no footage from the game. But as always, amazing video
I actually had A-Train as a kid as part of a multi pack with Sim city, Sim farm. I had very little clue what to do but I loved it for some weird reason.
Dunkey is truly a master of foreshadowing. The way he said "DINOBREAK" perfectly set up how the narrator says "DINOBREAK" during the games opening. Chills.
Dunkey you are the first person I've heard actually talk about crazy frog racer, I remember renting it from a blockbuster 15 years back and I can still hear it's soundtrack but sometimes I felt like it was all a fever dream cause I've never heard anyone else mention it before so seeing it in this video threw me back thank you
Wow Dunkey your videos are incredible. If you really want some cool games to try out, I wonder if you've heard of 'Kya: Dark Lineage' or 'Brave: the Search for Spirit Dancer'. Most likely you have but those nostalgic platformers are similar to Tak, Jak, Sly, or Pitfall. Anyways happy holidays and congratulations on making a family.
As a real and honest reviewer, I'm so glad I traded my extra 2 copies of Lair for 1 copy of Dinobreak THEN realizing my mistake traded my 1 copy of Dinobreak for A-Train HX after the futile disappointment of the original A-Train. The dragon content in Lair is no matchup against Dragon2020 since it only contained dragons and no human. I absolutely had to trade my 5th and final copy of Lair for that. Lost Luggage and Frantic Flea look fun and I'm looking forward to remastered versions of both. Izzy's quest for the Olympic Rings looks really difficult . . . I'm not sure I'm up for that kind of a challenge.
Personally my two favorite hidden gems are little known indie projects Frogger: The Great Quest (2001) for the PS2 and Disaster: Day of Crisis (2008) for the Nintendo Wii. I think I have a copy of each somewhere in my Lair (2007) closet. My dad transferred all our money into hidden gems during the 2008 financial crisis so we have about $10,000 in hidden gems, definitly more stable than those silver scams on cable tv.
Thank you for reviewing A-Team. My favorite part is the recurring gag where Murdock makes Mr. T really angry. Always good for a laugh. I love it when a plan comes together.
idk what it is, but Robocop: Rogue City is like prime for comedy streamers. That section of the video I've watched 3 times and it still makes me LOL. Great job Dunk
Dunked absolutely has to cover Geist in the next one. Such a hidden gem classic. No dragons in this one, so maybe not as good as Lair, but still has lizards in it, so close enough.
I unironically loved lair when it came out, really enjoyed the story and the movement controls were pretty good if you managed to get into the zone. Or at least I thought so, it was terrible in terms of performance but I remember really enjoying the skydiving portions and eating soldiers for health. Rented and beat it in a weekend, in any case they patched the controls to have support for regular analog after as an after thought
It was one of my first games for PS3, when it still had only motion control. Unfortunately I only played it for like 2h and every time I remember it, I feel a little bad that I didn't give it a real chance. The atmosphere was actually quite nice.
The reason why Robocop is a great game is because it's a double A game, so that's like two A-trains so it's twice as good as that game, which is weird because giving it a 20 out of 10 doesn't work since that's not how the "out of 10" system works but it's just that good
