@@jeffreyjbyron I THINK it's in Jingo, middle of the vimes books... pretty sure it's describing how the old ankh morpork empire traded their greatest general tacticus to the city state genua, whose monarchy was in the aforementioned teeth situation without the new blood. Or I'm mixing it up with another line, and it's a throwaway gag in any of the forty books hahaha, genuinely unsure despite my confident call in the previous sentence. Edit: 100% not in light fantastic though, he wasn't quite doing his thing yet and the humor is a lot more straight genre satire in the first dozen or so

I say it all of the time but Preston and the rest of his yeam are amazing. I can't think of a punchline for Tyrion's quip that isn't gross and horrible. Brilliant writing that the horn interrupts him and a great nod to show Tyrion's unfinished joke.

“That’s the biggest Dog I’ve ever seen!” cried Penny. “That’s no dog,” Tyrion retorted, “That’s a Dire wolf.” “You have to ride her,” Penny’s voice crackled with near hysteria, “You HAVE to ride that Dire wolf.” “You sound like my father,” quipped Tyrion. He thought back to Sansa Stark. Perhaps if he had ridden that dire wolf he wouldn’t be facing this one now.

Massive respect to Preston (and everybody else involved!) for this chapter. I can only imagine how much work went into it. It's crazy but these chapters are really starting to feel like actual GRRM chapters to me. The writing is *that* good. Especially with Tyrion. All the little quips and jokes and sarcastic remarks and clever observations. It's so much like George. And the effort really shines through. Thank you.

The more I think about it, I feel like we're not going to get one of the battles that George has set up. I feel like one or two are going to be subverted unexpectedly, significantly reducing the pagecount.

I was kind of disappointed when Preston insisted that the chapter end with Tyrion thinking "I don't need to outrun the wolf, just the man behind me, but hearing how it actually played out definitely changed my opinion. Nicely done.

Jaime's participation in the Tysha situation always puzzled me for a number of reasons. First, why was Jaime at the Rock? He was 20 at the time, a Kingsguard as well, and at that time, Cersei was either heavily pregnant or had just given birth to Joffrey, so why would he be there? Second, Tyrion mentions that Jaime was eager to chase away the bandits that were chasing Tysha, with the argument that Jaime never had the opportunity to deal justice because bandits this close to Casterly Rock were so rare. But wouldn't a member of the Kingsguard have plenty of opportunities to deliver justice, whether it be outlaws in the Kingswood or the regular mob of peasants that were in Robert's way?

This could partly be fixed by having it that maybe Cersei was visiting the Rock to give birth in her home country. And Jaime accompanied her as a kings guard.

People always forget that at the time Cat (and the reader) assumed that the killing of Lord Arryn was the first move in a Lannister coup. Cat took Tyrion to The Vale to force Lysa to join in the impending war and defend The Riverlands. It didn't work but it was a perfectly reasonable ploy.

37:00 - The amount of Incest: PJ is surprised that Cersei and Jaime could even have 3 functional kids - don't be surprised because there are real cases where a father has impregnated his daughter and had over 3 kids - there are also many cases of brother sister children (look at the ancient Egyptian dynasty) and they are functional. Incest is not nearly as fast acting as you seem to think. The Targaryens however are really unrealistic. Have you considered there being any fantasy explanation for why the Targs seem completely unaffected by incest (9 times out of 10 anyway). They do have the 'blood of the dragon' and reptilian DNA so that could easily be used to explain why they resist incest. Relatedly - if Jaime and Cersei were targaryens then their kids can also benefit from this explanation - if only there was some implication that they could be part targaryen somehow, such as a penchant for incest, a 50/50 chance of madness, or a known targaryen having sexual interest in their mother.
@PrestonJacobstheSweetrobin

Most of those Egyptian royalty died young, like Tut.
@umwha
@umwha 2 месяца назад
@@PrestonJacobstheSweetrobin Yeah - but Tut died so young either because of an injury (from a chariot or hippo) or a more recent theory is that he had malaria - which does kill people of any age. His genetics were a bit wonky, but he lived until around 18 - and his family routinely lived through adulthood. So with Jaime and Cersei, it seems believable to me that they have 3 kids who are genetically fine, and likely to live to adulthood. Joffrey did seem to have incest-induced psychopathy and Tommen is described in quite 'weak' terms. Mrycella seems to be the only one without fault.

Great work! Feedback: 1. Aren't the torsos of midgets a similar size to that of average people? 2. The direwolf being in the camp lessens the impact of the direwolf and its pups being found by Robb and Jon. 3. I worry that these chapters are so far full of "aha!" moments. Quentyn realizing that the locusts were for Belwas being the most egregious, but the 'send a dog to kill a dog revelation is just another example. Generally really good work! It takes you about 1/10th the time to make a story that so far is about 7/10ths of GRRM's. That is really impressive!

I thought the Dragon landing on the ships and destroying them was to show that now the horn is blown, the dragons will is bonded with the Dusky Woman, who's wish is to destroy the fleet and kill Victarion, and the dragon is carrying out her wishes. Chariots were also easier for horses to pull. Early horses were much smaller than modern horses, more like little ponies. You couldn't really ride them. It took many many years of selective breeding to produce warhorses you could ride in full plate. Another reason chariots were used rather than riding horses in early (bronze age) warfare.

Concerning the lack of deleterious effets of inbreeding/incest in the story, for the Targaryens at least, I'd say this is directly inspired by the Ptolemies, who, although they were very inbred, were still perfectly fine, as far as the historical records can tell us. Heck, Cleopatra VII (maybe one of the direct inspirations for Dany), who was the product of generations of brothers and sisters marrying and reproducing with each other, was a very intelligent and politically astute woman. Inbreeding isnt bad per se genetically speaking, it's just a high risk endeavor when you practice it on multiple generations AND your line is riddled with deleterious recessive traits.

Actually you are wrong about incest. Jaime and Cersei are a one-off case. A single case of Brother and sister incest doesn't inherently lead to unhealthy children. The problem occurs when incest happens repeatedly in the same family, causing harmful recessive genes to accumulate.

I did like the chapter , but I do think this is the first time when you actually went against george pacing. Too much stuff happens in the chapter, and i think direwolf really jumps the shark As much as you want to get out the BoF its resolution needed at least 2 chapters, preferably hostage plan / actually going across battlefield And i really think direwolf was out of place. Not that the beastmaster had it, but the way this recently freed animal kept following tyrion across miles of battlefield. And yeah, I understand that you dont like that Joffrey is the culprit. I understand that it is a very dumb resolution and george fucked up. But this definitely was not the time or the place to retcon it. Later Tyrion chapters, maybe. Now it seemed just as bad as Tyrions realisations in ACOK So far this is the second Fanfic chapter that i found not as good as the others BUT PLEASE KEEP GOING BY AND LARGE THIS FANFIC IS AWESOME

I feel like there’s something going on with why the direwolf chased Tyrion. Preston has noted that all the direwolves seemed to hate Tyrion innately for some psychic reason perhaps . I agree about Tyrion having his reconsideration of the catspaw thing comes at the wrong time. It seems to come in the middle of high pressures maneuvers which isn’t when someone would reconsider an irelevant memory. Maybe it should have been placed during a time when Tyrion was sitting resting and reflecting

The Catelyn capturing Tyrion was an error on her part. Sure, Tywin is a raging psychopath but he has never hid that before has he. He has committed atrocious acts in response to perceived and real insults, perceived dishonour of his family name and as every family in Westeros would be aware of the rains of castermere, she should have expected something from him. Such a brazen act of foolishness would be rewarded with predictable Tywin brutality. Let us not take away her responsibility, she is just as responsible for lighting up the tinderbox as he is in spreading the fire.
@umwha

9:01 more conservative environment … By describing Westeros as conservative on the issue of man/boy relationships you are implying that open pederasty is progressive - which I don't think it accurate. The classic example of a pederastic culture is greece which definitely wasn't socially progressive in this way - it had a strict patriarchy - so rigid where their gender roles that a male could be seen as a 'non-man' (by being a boy, and by being sexually receptive), and therefore having sex with a non-man wasn't really gay. Adult men did not have (open) relationships in such cultures. I would argue that the Westerosi (European) view that a male remains a male regardless of age or sexual position (and therefore having sex with him is homosexual) is the more progressive view. It is perhaps no coincidence that gay rights emerged in euope - a non-pederastic set of cultures - whereas pederastic cultures never did develop legal recognitions.

It doesn't make you angry to think about all the false promises and missed deadlines for the last 13 years that is ulltimately resulting in this series never, ever being finished, thus making the first 5 books essentially useless and a giant waste of time?
