Ok so there's good news and bad news, the good news is that I reduced my perfume collection from 45 pieces to 8, the bad news is that I'm not sure if this will be fun to watch. Hey there! Love the video! Pro-tip: Perfumes can last for decades (depending on the ingredients) if they are kept in a cool, dark place away from sunlight. I know perfumes are so beautiful and fun to display but if light is getting to the bottle they will go bad quickly.

This! I keep my most used bottles in their boxes for this reason, so that I can keep them out on display (you just know that would drive HLP nuts though!) Looking out at them now though, I can see I've been naughty: at least half a dozen clear/pale glass bottles are chilling in the open air. That said, my room is almost always dark and cool (north-facing night-shift worker lol), so they'll be alright I reckon.

Took the opportunity to switch my "scent wardrobe" from fall/winter to spring/summer while I listened to you ❤️ Been having this practise for years, and I find it works remarkably well. I love rambly perfume videos! I know a lot of creators don't like making them because it's kind of awkward, but it's so fun to hear how people describe scents, especially if I've smelled it before or run across a tester in store afterwards.

“Let go of the past to be more in the present.” That was what I heeded. My nose has changed...it happens. I’ve had a few babies and my nose just doesn’t cooperate with certain scents anymore. It might be that you didn't put empty vials back in your stash, but the perfume has just evaporated over time, because there is no lid to keep it in. It has happened to me a few times.

Hands down, one of my most favorite things about your channel is your ability to describe things. I LOVE a scent. I have an absolute infatuation with it. I knew when I opened this video that I would enjoy, for no other reason than the adventure of smells you would convey in words to me. Little did I know, that we seem to have a similar preference of what type of scents we like to wear, and therefore I would need to weigh which of these lovelies I might add to my wish list for the next time I decide to treat myself. Ooh I'm sitting in for this one.. I love perfume talk :) I adore iris, incense, woods, resins, citrus top notes and florals in spring/summer! Diptyque Eau Rose in that original packaging is still an all time favorite watery, fun modern rose. I had it years ago and have been wanting for it again recently.

I have bought very few things because of RU-vid, but one of them was four samples from scentbird based on your recommendation. I thought it was worth trying them out because my skin absolutely eats perfume. It’s not just that I can’t usually smell it after 15 minutes, no one can. Scentbird seemed like a way to try out some less common things. I plan to buy full sizes of 3 out of the 4 I tried. I already bought a full size of Montale’s Intense Cafe. It lasts allll day on me and smells so good, kind of sickly sweet but in a good way. I’ll eventually also buy the dark purple from Montale since the sample got me a ridiculous amount of compliments. The last one I plan to get is Electric Wood. It has the most amazing smell, like fried electric wires, but in an intoxicating way where you want to just keep smelling it and it lasts a long time.

This was a cosy video to watch and one of those declutters in which the before and after has inspired me to do some whittling down of my own collection! I seem to have a perennial issue with perfumes where I will buy a 50ml bottle of a new scent to try out, make my way through the whole thing and decide to purchase a larger 100ml/150ml version and then find it incredibly difficult to get much use out of the larger size. The most recent perfume I did this with was a Tom Ford scent Oud Wood which was expensive enough that I’m berating myself for falling into this trap yet again (the fact that I love the scent so much and the better value you get with the larger bottles were enough to convince me that this time would be different, but alas). It’s becoming clear to me now that maybe I’m just a slut when it comes to perfume and the svelte new bottle will always be more seductive than the committed, frumpy, 150ml wife of a perfume.

That headband though....love it! Yes, it is hard talking to a camera. Anyone who hasn't tried it probably has no idea how difficult it is. I'm loving this extra content. My two favorite perfumes are English Laundry Signiture for Her and Ariana Grande Cloud. They are both very feminine, kinda sweet, and maybe a touch floral. Idk how to describe scents at all. I use perfume very infrequently, but I do enjoy having one I like around for the occasion I want it.

It's funny, I am all about decluttering any makeup or skincare that I feel is too much for me but aaaaaaalllllll my perfumes are my pride and joy and even the ones I don't use I attached a meaning/memory behind and cannot part way with them. I love Commodity gold. I have been wanting to get a new perfume but haven telling myself that I need to use up 3 fragrances to be “allowed” one new one. Alas I am at that point (Sol de janeiro, CK contradiction and Juliette has a gun not a perfume) and now I am looking at all of my minis and feeling like I should just hammer through and use a bunch up before I get a new one. I’m so overrun with old and / or dinky scents and only have a few that I absolutely treasure.

Etat Libre d'Orange Vraie Blonde was a really weird smell, but I kind of loved it (I actually love an overripe peach scent though! cf Gucci Rush, Guerlain Mitsouko, Robert Piguet Bandit) and I'm sad it's discontinued. ELdO is a great modern perfumery tbh. Hit and miss, but their hits are like nothing else on earth.

Trying hard not to be jealous right now. I get so excited when I hear people talk or I read about scents and I'm in love with the idea of being a "signature scent woman", but the sad truth is, 90% of fragrances give me instant headaches, and of the remaining 10%, most will give me a headache after I've worn them for an hour. And because I'm so sensitive, even trying out new scents is an issue because there is such a high probability I'll have a headache for the remainder of the day. Any other scent-sensitive girls out there have any tips?

I will usually get samples of things that interest me and then spray them in a hankie and carry that in my purse or pocket. That way if it does give me a headache it is not directly on me and easier to distance myself from it when I need to.

I will completely reroute my mall excursions to bypass the perfume sections. About 15 years ago, I finally found a scent that I enjoyed AND didn't make me sick. It was discontinued. Recently, I received some YSL samples: Mon Paris and Libre that fit the bill--shockingly. Last year my IG friend Lauren started a panning project to finish 21 items. So I took my perfume samples from 50-60 down to 21 fragrances I didn’t mind wearing and would to try to pan by 1/1/2021. In addition to those samples I have 3 full sized perfumes. My goal is to finish the 21 perfumes (10/21 so far!!) and then buy a 4th perfume to round out my perfume seasons. Right now I have a fall, winter and spring, but I am really looking for a summer scent. I’m just sooo picky about fragrances. Much like you I know instantly if I love a perfume.... and I don’t love most of them. So we will see if I can find one I love in those 21 samples. I adored your perfume Declutter. Definitely not boring. Thanks for sharing!! Edit to add: re: fragrances I am currently intrigued by.....If I had the means I would add Tom Ford Metallique as my fourth bottle of perfume because it is just WONDERFUL. But my gosh is it outrageously expensive. If you can ever get your hands on a sample it’s beautiful. Another fragrance on my potentials list is YSL Libre, not because it’s an out of the park Homerun for me. Rather because the other half loves the smell on me and constantly compliments when I wear it.

My first "expensive" perfume was Butterfly by Hanae Mori, which they don't even make even more. Its gone off and should be thrown away but I keep it for sentimental reasons LOL. I used to love Flower Bomb by Victor and Rolf but I've realized that I don't like it that much anymore. Like I've out grown or moved on from it, but I have a full size almost unused bottle. Sign.

If anyone is looking for small, creative, indie perfumeries, I cannot recommend Hexennacht and Sucreabeille enough. They are run by incredible women who have also fostered amazing communities you can find on Facebook (everyone there is being SO supportive of each other especially right now where virtual communities are becoming so important!). Their perfumes are creative, quirky, witchy, often inspired by movies, books, shows, games, etc., and very very affordable. I feel so much better giving my hard-earned money to small businesses, especially right now. From Hexennacht I recommend "Wuthering Heights" (lavender, vanilla, spectral musks, vetiver, tonka, jasmine, tea leaves, oakmoss), from Sucreabeille I recommend "Mother of Dragons" (sweet vanilla, maple butter, smoke from the village you just burnt to the ground, decadent leather).

Boring bah never especially listening to you describe the scents! I love how passionate you are about your collection. I am working on panning my oldest one which is no longer available and I don't love as much with me goal being only to add another good one when I finish one. I am dying to buy Si by Giorgio Armani but I can't till I finish that one so its keeping me in check. Also Fuergeria is so bomb thank you for introducing me to them I now have a wish list from there. Its good motivation to use up what I have so I can invest in things that truly make me feel like a badass bitch which to me is the feeling you describe when putting on your favourite scents!

I think 3-5 years is average? Some scents can last longer, though. I'm okay with it, they are really of another time for me.

Perfumes will last longer if you keep them in their box in dark and away from direct sunlight / heat. My first bottle of fancy perfume as a teenager sat on my dressing table and went off before I finished it. Never had that happen since but I don't display my perfume anymore.

@@estellehowell4414 I've never had a perfume go off on me, thankfully. I haven't counted them lately, but I think my collection sits around 80 bottles and decent-sized decants, all at least five years old (many much older). Most of them live in the dark now, but 20-30 spent a couple of years on display, so either I was lucky or I hid them from the light in time :D Never storing them in the bathroom helps too, I think. Whenever I've noticed other people's perfumes having gone bad, they've been stored in the bathroom.

anotherlemontree yes, the bathroom is the worst place to keep them. I have most of mine in a drawer and the few I have currently in use are in their boxes on the top of a chest of drawers that gets no direct sunlight and well away from the radiator and that seems to work fine. My perfume passion really kicked off when I moved to London in 2007 and I suspect my oldest are a good 10+ years old but none have gone off yet.

French pronunciation lesson incoming! :D Histoires de Parfums = approx. Istwar duh Parfa(nasal). Silent "h." "Histoires" rhymes with "film noir" :) "de" is "duh," but round your lips. French nasals are so tough for non-native speakers ("un bon vin blanc" is apparently the test for Frenchness), but if it helps, know that we almost never pronounce final consonants. Etat Libre d'Orange = approx. eh-ta libr d'orange. The final "t" is silent. The "g" in "orange" is like the "zs" in "Zsa Zsa Gabor." I can't believe you edited down to eight! I could never, but they look so pretty on their tray with all that space to stretch and breathe :D
