Stevie Nicks wrote this song about her experience with cocaine and relationships. I have never tried cocaine but I understand how powerful addictions can be as I do have an addiction. However, the lyrics for me, means something else, something I can relate to. My point is, I love and respect Stevie Nicks, this song also has a profound impact on me in other ways. Stevie has a way with words and I love it. Thank you, Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac.
I can relate. I had no idea that this song was about drug addiction to some till I read these comments. Its about a loss of love to me, a once in a lifetime loss that circumstances dictated that had nothing to do with me. An infinite loss where the love still is there but cannot be.
@@kevinfurr3311 bless your heart sweetheart I've lost someone very dear to me too I'll never get that love back I'm just super grateful her my best friend xxxx
I love these comments. "Did she ... Shatter you illusions of love" how profound. How many online relationships can be described in such a way.!? Gold dust, angel dust, every other kind of dust with only an illusion of love.
This song speaks to my soul. I had a terrible cocaine addiction too. I also had bad relationships with men, while I was in my addiction. Stevie has a way...Fleetwood Mac...their music speaks to the depths of my soul !! They are amazing :)
I don’t care what anyone says Lindsey is just as good as Stevie and I love Stevie. He has amazing talent picking on a guitar and still being able to wail out beautiful worlds in all of our ears. Put him and Stevie together and that’s a unstoppable force.
Thank you, everyone for your wonderful comments, it makes my day. :3 I made this video for my mom, I'm really glad other people are getting some enjoyment out of it as well.
YEARS AGO, when I lived in Downtown Charleston,S.C., a young neighbor of was GA-GA over Courtney Love's cover of this song. I said YOU'VE NEVER HEARD THE ORIGINAL? HIM:. NO. ME: COME WITH ME . We went to my apartment, found my copy of RUMORS, and, played this on my turntable. He, NEVER AGAIN, mentioned Courtney Love's version to me.😊😊😊
Anna, We have never met and likely never will but I am all too familiar with addiction... I was married to Mrs. H. ( Heroin ) for two decades... Success in abstinence is not as common as one would hope. This too I know from experience. So I will ask you to be one of those success stories and stay strong.. I wish you good health and safe passage... Steve
@@tracy4good I have a recovery story on you tube..I was given 6 months to live in 2016. 4th stage inoperable pancreatic cancer. I found better doctors, I am in remission today. I beat addictions. That fight got me ready for the next fight for my life. Moral to the story @ Steven Horton, NEVER GIVE UP!
You guys got it all wrong about Gold Dust Woman being about cocaine addiction, whatever....this is a song reflecting what it is to have given your heart to the wrong person, who in the end only breaks you. When you love somebody TRULY without reservation, holding back nothing, they are your ruler. They own you. Gold Dust Woman beautifully, ever so very, very beautifully reflects what you go through if in the end, your devotion terminates in a situation like mine I pale in her shadow! it's all bad but I'll live. Thank you Stevie. She made me cry. She made me break down. She SHATTERED my illusions of love, and Yes, it's OVER now, (I see cuzza YOU Stevie) I don't know how? To pick up the pieces and go home............ But at least I ain't gonna punch my own time card. Thanks to your brilliant music! Nobody's anything like you Stevie! Yours is greatness
+Leigh Layne YOU'RE Stevie? Or Gold Dust Woman for another. For crissakes if you're Stevie talk to me, if ya wanna meet me. I'd find it an honor and a privilege and then some. But I'd treat you like a normal gal, not a superstar.
she was open to very extreme levels of consciousness. able to unwrap from the illusion of more things than we know of,Stevie is a visionary. this song has a mysterious meaning that can only be understood by knowing those experiences in the song. the dark and the gold. how can she be both. how could it be only a moment written when it speaks of ancient and is also prophecy..? shadows and pale without sunlight. but thanks to the girl who created this for showing her in all the, beautyful images,
Lol extreme levels of consciousness=== copious amounts of mind altering substances.... Regardless I have complete, total respect, love, and, admiration for Stevie! High or not she is amazing! The drugs and booze were the main catalyst for all of the problems for Fleetwood Mac! That and Lindsey Buckingham was a philandering alcoholic.... But hey rock on Fleetwood Mac!
I'm old enough to have listened to many incredible bands and truly awe inspiring music, not like the majority of today's nonsense. I will take the 70s and 90s over everything, well Motown too. But Stevie and Fleetwood are perfection!!! Thank you to whatever higher power created music ❤
Mom's Know These Things! :). Guess what? My daughter found it out on her own! And she and I had a blast listening to and grooving with them-all of them! What a gift. Christine just died and I will miss the ideas of her being in this world! I am so grateful we "had" her and this glorious group! And, my daughter has died, too. So, I'm playing it out in my mind that in Soul Heaven another has been added and my precious girl is there jamming with "em all! Or else-she's walking around in some other dimension, back here and Christine's coming back in some form or another too. Why let anything stand in the way--when life has so much to give, it also has so much to take. I am so sad and I am so grateful, too. Jenna's Mom, Terri, Love you, Christine-and Jenna knows....thanks.
This is an utterly incredible video backing up this song and supporting the mystery of the words, the haunting instrumental and Stevie's voice. It all blends together into an artful ether. The song had been on my mind for several days before finally going to RU-vid to choose this.
The song is like any song whose exact or literal meaning is most nearly left up to interpretation. Complex and complicated one thing's for sure ,the stories are woven like a spider's web and are completely fascinating. Fleetwood Mac , one of rock and roll's ethereal best!!
@@gilarvrndn I hope that your recovered from your narcissist journey that you endured.. I too spent 23 yrs with a narcissistic man.. I don't believe I will ever get over ALL the riptides I endured..!!! As we have been Separated since 2002, and I still battle the demons from yester yrs.. I will say a prayer for you! 🤔
@@dawnfowler1889 Hello!! I did somewhat recover. A lesson to be learned but I'm thankful. I'm in best shape physically, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually!! I hope your doing well and things have turned around for you. I'll be praying for you.

Rock on, Gold Dust Woman Take your silver spoon, dig your grave Heartless challenge Pick your path and I'll pray Wake up in the morning See your sunrise, loves to go down Lousy lovers pick their prey But they never cry out loud, cry out Well, did she make you cry Make you break down Shatter your illusions of love? And is it over now, do you know how? Pick up the pieces and go home Rock on, ancient queen Follow those who pale in your shadow Rulers make bad lovers You better put your kingdom up for sale Up for sale Well, did she make you cry Make you break down Shatter your illusions of love? And is it over now, do you know how? Pick up the pieces and go home But did she make you cry Make you break down Shatter your illusions of love? And now tell me, is it over now? Do you know how to pick up the pieces And go home? Go home, go home Pale shadow of a woman Black widow Pale shadow of a dragon Dust woman Pale shadow of a woman Black widow Pale shadow, she's a dragon Gold Dust Woman Woman, woman
well done, a particularly beautiful and atmospheric accompaninent to Fleetwood Mac's 'Gold Dust Woman', my favourite song of theirs and featuring the greatest female rock voice of the last fifty years, Stevie Nicks. Beautiful, beautiful video, thank you!
Awesome song/ video! Thank you Ms. Stevie Nicks for being the classic that you are! Thank you Entropy for sharing! GOD Speed to you and your Mom always ❤
It's odd how the lyrics of this treasure correlate in so many ways to my life and the photos you choreograph. I swear the one sketch is my once love. It's hard to watch, but I find it harder not too. Life - a gift. A miracle. Never easy.
This is the best video cinematic theme I have ever seen = TAKE A BOW SIR THIS MAKES THE SONG EVEN BETTER = sorry for the youngster today who don’t know real music
Wow! Beautiful Pictures that look as though they were drawn for this song! "So Gold Dust Woman was really my kind of symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, and doing alot of drugs, and trying to just make it ~ trying to live ~ you know trying to get through it to the next thing." ~Stevie Nicks, VH1 The Making of Rumours, 1997
I have watched this a couple times now and I have to say Entropy this is probably the best representation of a song that I have ever seen. Thank you. It hits me right in the heart.
When asked about the song in an interview with Courtney Love for Spin in October 1997, Nicks said: “ You know what, Courtney? I don't really know what "Gold Dust Woman" is about. I know there was cocaine there and that I fancied it gold dust, somehow. I'm going to have to go back to my journals and see if I can pull something out about "Gold Dust Woman". Because I don't really know. It's weird that I'm not quite sure. It can't be all about cocaine. ” In an interview for VH1's Classic Album series, Nicks offered further insight into the song's meaning: “ "Gold Dust Woman" was my kind of symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, doing a lot of drugs, and trying to make it. Trying to live. Trying to get through it. ”
@@LoriUren its about cocaine and her shit relationship with Lindsay Buckingham. Its not hard to see what she means once you know its about drugs, and bad relationships, she was making a poke at Lindsay after he made a song about her, Go Your Own Way.
Love this, just love it, visually fits the lyrics soooooo well, credits to all involved! Bought rumours sooo many years ago and for a reason I didn't know then, this was always my favourite track......
ive always loved this one , so many fans have a diference of opinion reguarding the metaphoric referances in this song . the woman refered to in this song is likened to a pale shadow of a woman of a dragon and a black widow gold dust woman , all thinngs that are illusion or simply wont exist for long leaving her counter part holding onto virtualy nothing she is an enchantress or a witch he gave away his "kingdom " thinking he had struck gold and would posess her, it does not exclude plying him with drugs as one of her methods though so i kinda agree w/ every one
Again, I just LOVE this version of Gold Dust Woman. As I already said, the imagery so fits with the lyrics. It is one of my favorites and I have seen many versions of this song. Thank you again niome13665. GREAT!!!
niome, so good. Love how each scene captures the mood of the song and especially the ancient queen part- you had haunting images of the 'queen' even before she sings about her. Please do some more. You totally captured the essence of this song, IMHO Wonder how you might do 'sara'.
