Gold Mining Camping Trip with a Seadoo on the North Saskatchewan River. HIGH WATER! (Trip #3.)

I filmed another one of my bad ideas! This time I decided to load a 1997 Seadoo GTX up with way too much stuff and head up the flooding North Saskatchewan River to camp overnight and dig for gold!
It was just pouring down rain for most of this trip, I was able to film in a few breaks in the weather and show a little gold mining. The water started the rise due to heavy rain upstream so I managed to get off the river just in the nick of time! I wonder what it was like for the old timers who didn't have a warm bed to drive home to and who needed every penny of gold they found to pay for just the basic necessities of life.

Great video. Very good decision making on your part to pack it in. The NSR or any major river for that matter is not something to mess with at very high water levels. Thank you for sharing!!!

An interesting story is of James Gibbons the inventor of the grizzly in the 1800s specifically for the flour gold of the North Saskatchewan River. It worked very well and only used a wool blanket to collect gold . I was gifted a exact replica of that grizzly from an old timer who rafted down the river in the 30s and mined for gold to get extra money in the summer because there was no work . My first trip out was to prospectors point near the old Devon bridge . We shoveled lots and got little but we got gold .

Crazy weather sure does make it interesting out there! I carry bearspray while out on the seadoo, handguns are far too complicated in Canada.

That was crazy. I dont know if ide have the guts to sleep on the river bank like you. Maybe next summer if covid is under control and your sluicing/ panning at a walkable access point i can join ya. Never did pan the nsr would like too. Live few hrs away. My season was little over 3 grams. So prob less then ur season loss at end of sluice 😃

They are noise canceling and I use them to listen to podcasts while I drive. They also have a built in microphone so I was testing using them as my microphone to see how they pickup road noise. Every video has some sort of learning experiment as I try new things and attempt to edit better videos. Thanks for watching and showing your engagement by commenting on my videos!
