Just like CNC machining, in a way. Spend hours to save maybe 1 second per cycle. But then multiply that by 20,000 cycles...

There is a quote I heard once: "There is nothing that wastes more time than trying to save time." It kind of fits here. And I don't mean that they're wasting their time on doing speedruns or anything like that, because those people are incredible. I just mean that they spend all this time after having the talents and techniques already mostly down on even the smallest chance that things line up more or less perfectly. And that's some serious dedication!

Actually he meant he was gonna reach the escape boat too fast, so the hostages wouldn't be able to reach their escape checkpoints during his fadeout, and he'd lose. It literally was too fast for him to win, and that's why he delayed getting in the boat by just the tiniest bit at the end.

Imagine being a guard in one of these maps when people are speedrunning just seeing this madman running sideways looking down, flicking his aim and killing you like his bullet was destined for your heart, then as you die you just see them zoom along

Same here. Randomly clicked on the Doom speedrun explained vid and now ive been watching speedrun vids for days non stop. They are strangely entertaining

Same with me mate. Got into the Goldeneye vids since I always love the games, never had any interest in speedruns, now I've got a healthy respect for them. All thanks to these vids.

The Chasm, thats the “walkway” level, but yeah ive been a massive fan of his for awhile now. Ive watched all his videos many times over lol, hes so detailed you can learn new things each time you watch

Isaac Hernandez a good game to start speedeunning is Mario Odyssey. That’s the game that i started running just about a week ago. It’s pretty accesible and no crazy clips for beginner runs.

@@Ohrami unless you clarify or give more context it can be seen as you saying to the speed run to be careful with the bugs in the game or telling the speed runner to be careful with the bugs he throws. Second option wouldn't be funny so I went for the first. And that's why I said this ain't a bug it's speed.

I think you only see the cutscene with Bond at the end if you successfully complete the mission. You can see in the video of rayan isran's failed 2010 run that it just goes straight to black before showing the end screen.

I know this is a year later, but Karl does explain they use the background music as an audio cue for timing.

Interestingly, he also said that if you get to the escape boat too fast, the hostages won't have time to reach their escape checkpoint during your fadeout. So in that case, you DON'T want to do that as quick as possible.

The cinema showing bond putting away his gun only plays when all of the objectives are complete.

Just because there are 6 options that doesnt mean they are all equally possible. Thats not how RNG works.

I didn't realize you, our narrator, were right down there in the trenches with them all. I'll watch any of these videos any time. I myself... the game I spent my entire youth playing over and over trying to beat levels in harder and harder and even more impossible ways was the game series Marathon by Bungie. I so deeply respect the art of not just playing some game, but for truly trying to achieve mastery. You and pals take this to a whole 'nother "Olympics-worthy" level of madness that I can barely comprehend. Truly hats off pal. Keep the content coming.
