I'm pretty sure that this was the way the level was intended to be played. I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but who can forget that iconic scene where Bond is running sideways toward the plane, throwing grenades 200 feet in the air at himself.

Imagine being a guard in these Goldeneye levels. "Man, a guy in a tux just came in, took the keys and was throwing granades on himself, I swear" "Don't bullshit me, Dimitri"

This dude out here showing his record breaking runs and just goes, "Yeah, the old runs were beaten, moving on to this Eric fellow"

When I hear "this technically works but isn't really something you want to rely upon" in speedrunning, I know for a fact that means "this run will eventually get so tightly choreographed that people will have no choice but to rely on it". Because that's the pattern I keep seeing.

I just imagine a 007 movie where James Bond kicks in a warehouse door, steals a key off a desk in clear sight of bad guys, and runs off down a tarmac while tossing grenades into the air as all the bad guys stand there like "Wtf?"

It always surprises me how any element of the map is being utilized to achieve those impossible scores. It's like the game creators included exactly 10 grenades in purpose.

This is insane how 20+ years after this game was released we are still finding thingd about it. Speedrunning keeps games alive. And who knows there might be even more levels that have impossible WRs that are possible to beat that we just have not analyzed the right way.

But surely now the level is optimized and cannot be improved!" _The process repeats_ While I could never speedrun these games (I still have trouble with 00 and Perfect Agents on a good day), I love how the community never gives up and continues to find new things.

The worst part about speedruns is when you can't see or hear the runner pop off super hard

The thing that confuses me the most about this video is the intented time target of 5 minutes. What kind of person needs 5 minutes to walk to that plane!

I had been waiting for this video since I heard about this. I absolutely love these history and breakdowns of GoldenEye speedruns now. Speedruns in general. But this game is one of my most nostalgic games.

The aim in speed running is to shave as many seconds off if your previous attemp as possible, this same approach lost me an ex girlfriend, but she will have that record to take with her to the grave.

This is ironic as I've played games all my life but never really known about speed running at all until I saw a video a year or so ago on whether 00:22 could ever be beat on Runway. Then this. I guess this goes to show that you really never can tell when something is done.

Dude, I was waiting for this to happen, just knowing you'd make a video about it. What a genuine absolute legend this guy is now, I'm really happy he finally got it done and put the record to rest. Now.. how long will this go untied? Edit: Also.. yeah, when you are the person that achieved a certain run or recordbreak that you talk about.. please mention that you're the one who did it. There are no doubt lots of people who have subbed for your speedrunning content that never followed Goldeneye closely and may just not pay any attention to the on screen text or put 2+2 together.

I could imagine the next evolution involving throwing a very tricky grenade at the two key guards from the outside, earlier, in order to remove them from memory sooner. Could that save 0.1 second?

i was just waiting for your take on this. you should make a video discussing what makes a run "impossible", the mechanical aspects (likestrategy variations, controller input limitation and things like that) of it and TAS, i hope i made myself clear, english is not my native language.
