since I have discovered these around my house. I hear them everywhere I go around my area. it really puts a smile on my face knowing that these lovely little birds live here with me.
I live in Ballywonard in County Antrim in Ireland. Pretty urban. Today I saw my first ever goldfinch and could not believe this was the first time I saw this beautiful little bird.
What a wonderful video! -- in just over 6 minutes I not only learnt so much about the goldfinches but also saw some of the most beautiful views of the goldfinches. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable video, Maurice.
+kwee eng Thank you for your most generous comments, I am pleased that you enjoyed watching it, the pleasure was all mine in the filming and making of this video.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Maurice! The lesson on how the Goldfinch processes the seeds it eats, was very well explained and something that makes complete sense when I watch them feeding in the garden. Once again Maurice I feel all the better for watching your films and yet again more knowledgeable than I felt before. Well Done mate! N.
Just a quick comment. My name is Butch and we have had the pleasure of a European Goldfinch male at our feeders. The strange thing is, we live in Parker Colorado at an elevation of 6,200 ft. just southeast of Denver. We first spotted him Feb. 11, 2023. He still comes quite often and is now March 25th. I assume he is an escapee from somewhere, but he likes to hang out with our American Goldfinch’s.
This is an exceptionally fine video, Maurice. Your work, always top notch, just keeps getting better and better. Fascinating details on the way the beak works that you illustrate so well. What a beautiful bird.
What a lovely video. I especially like the part at 3:40, they look like baubles on a Christmas tree. By the way, you're correct about 5:10 being a first-winter male - the bird in the video has a small yellow feather on its wing which only occurs in males. Again, lovely video, what a joy to watch!
