How about a video explaining the relation between swing speed and the compression rating you should be playing. High swing speed needs low compression? Or visa versa, etc.

Perhaps, include the Pro V1 numbers that you've done in the past to these test. Screen shot it in when you put up 7ir / Driver / wedge number sets. It would give a good baseline as you move across ball segments and test. That is the only piece that is missing from this segment. Am I gaining : ball speed, height and distance, losing spin, but hitting a decent angle vs the ProV1 data set?...As always! you guys rock.

I am thrilled that found your channel. I just turned 61 a month ago, between lost distance and not being very good, I kind of lost interest. I play a pro v1 refurbished and project a balls I was wandering about. So thanks for doing these video's which sparked ny interest in trying different shaft's flexes,tip stiffness and such.

I am a "value" shopper. I always look for the maxim performance at the most reasonable price. Not the cheapest and not usually the very best performance but very good performance at a very good price. I would like to see a Maxfli Tour / Tour X ($25 dz) up against Bridgestone E6 and Kirkland 3 piece.

Great review, be interested to see you test the Vice Pro ball. Fantastic value & to me performs up there with the “premium” priced balls. Must say durability isn’t a great concern with me, like to use about 2 or 3 balls a round. 😀

I was using the Taylormade tour preferred ball because it flies lower and I play a windy course , Lanark. Now I have been playing the project a and love them. Got them as a freebie at the tgi pro am in Turkey every march. So much so I even bought 40 yellow ones to practice with around the greens etc at our practice area so I am using the same ball as I'm playing. Swing seed for driver is about 105_108 and find these brilliant.

This video confirmed what I suspected; that the TM Project (A) is a quality, high-spinning ball with a very soft feel. I have a slower swing speed and this ball works really well for me. I've never been able to create backspin on shots into the green, but now I can, with the Project (A). As always, thanks for the video and all the great information. I'll be interested to see the test of new vs. recycled balls?

For me as a newbie, it's a big headache choosing balls. Each manufacturers should have a sort of chart or matrix to compare their own balls. (include older models as well) All I see on each model's description is good performance , great distance, excellent feel. So all of them are good? Then I would later hear review saying this ball is good for this and that ball is for such and such. Very confusing. Well, at least now I'm learning them from you guys. Thanks a lot.

Having tried all the Titleist range over the years, never found one to my liking. I played the Chrome Soft from its inception and found it a great ball UNTIL....we moved to Malaysia and they were very overpriced, so tried the Wison Duo range of balls. For my game the Duo Soft Spin 40 compression is longer, straighter and enough check spin around the green. A super ball at only Canadian $25/dozen. I was given some Titleist Tour Soft and have to say, that if I did not have the Duo ball, again for me, this would be my gamer ball, the first Titleist I really enjoy. As Ian and Matt keep reiterating" You need to get fitted for everything, including the ball", and as you can buy sleeves of 3, it is worth experimenting, at not a great cost, to see which one can improve your game. I think TXG will rule the You Tube golfing world very soon. As good as ever chaps 👏👏 I don't think I've ever praised someone so much in my life, even my wife 😂🤣😂

@JayJay-jx3zg
@JayJay-jx3zg 6 лет назад
The xs was the all around best for me, I bought/tried them all. X felt the most firm off the driver and putter. Rx felt the cheapest, rxs wasn't horrible, but the xs was longer, spun better, BUT, I'd be really curious to see if the "numbers" backed all this up...

As a 40yr old with 30yrs of golf experience I feel foolish looking back with some of my club and ball choice (too much spin in both categories) I never realized what I should have been buying and was more conscious of the price or a bargain. Your channel has really flipped my understanding of these factors and I won't buy anything anymore without getting completely fitted. Up until recently I played 913 D2 with Project A's. It was not uncommon for me to get backspin with a driver

@@banditbaker1675 I play off 4 and lived in Singapore for a couple of years. Very moist ground due to daily thunderstorms which made a mockery of my chipping when I first arrived. I used to drive with a high launch (913 D2 set to 8.5 using Project A's) at +3 AOA to max out distance. I'd get to my ball and the pitch mark was a foot ahead of the ball and playing partners with 10-15mph less than me would land 20ydr behind me and run up to me. Loved the Project A's for around the greens. Now in San Francisco and I'm 30yrds longer without changing anything. (And I'm now looking at AVX's)

Hey guys awesome amount of information. So my swing speed is high (driver head speed around 95-99mph) I find the Prov1 is great off the tee but once I start on the short games it's like it skips off the face with minimum spin, normally running off the backside of the green but if I switch ball to something softer like the Qstar it hits the greens and stops with a little spin back. what would you recommend for this?

I currently play the Callaway Supersoft, but the Srixon Q-Star Tour might be my next purchase. I've tended to like the feel of the softer balls like Supersoft and Titleist DT Trusoft. After you test others in this category, it would be nice to compare the 'best' of each test.

Rather than have Matt try to swing 70 percent with iron & driver, I'd prefer if you found a better player with a "regular" swing speed to test these types of balls. Without knowing his swing speed off the top of my head, but watching his recent driver fitting, I think Mike would have been a better test subject for these balls. I feel like the clubhead is probably being delivered to the ball differently with Matt's 70% swing over a full swing from a slower player.

Tried Titleist Pro V but too expensive and harder than I liked and more recently the Wilson DX2 for a softer feel, which lacked grab. Found the perfect compromise in the Wilson DX3U (urethane), soft compression and plenty of grab around the greens at a fraction of the price of a premium ball. In my tests not much much difference off the tee or fairway, into and around the greens are where you’ll find the differences

I'm confused, you are comparing two 3-piece balls with a ureathane cover ( think; expensive ) with a 2-piece ball with a ionomer cover ( think; cheaper ). What actually makes this ball so high priced? Shouldn't this be well under $30? In my market these sell for $35.

I've been gifted a dozen Project (a) and Tour Soft balls from some customers, and have played multiple rounds over the past few mornings at my local 6-hole Par 3 course. My totally mid-handicapper notes are very spot on with these TXG findings. But one thing I didn't pay enough attention to, was the difference in the launch angle between the two, I was only paying attention to the spin. So my findings after playing a dozen rounds using three of each ball off the tees were: Using middle irons like a 6, 7, 8, the two balls were pretty similar. Carried same distances. On longer 4 and 5 iron shots, the Tour Soft carried 4-5 yards longer, and obviously had less spin as they would bounce and roll a bit, while the Project (a) just stopped quicker. What caught me off guard was hitting the 9 and PW shots, and finding the Tour Soft landing short. They launched much higher on these shorter clubs, and I was solidly 4-5 yards shorter than Project (a). So overall, I found the Tour Softs to produce a more spread out gaping from 4 iron to PW. The Project (a) in comparison was more steady Eddie, longer on the short stuff, a little shorter on the long shots, and very consistent 10yd gaping between clubs. I was surprised how noticeably different these two balls played on a course I've played hundreds of times. The Project (a) seem to play much closer to V1 and TP5 in terms of feel, distances etc.

Interesting way you characterize the balls as “low spin”. Are you talking about with the driver or the wedge. I THINK a ball like PV1 is supposed to be low spin off the driver but obviously high spin with the wedge. It always confuses me when I read a box cover.

Switched from ProV1x to ProjectA this year after 8 years of V1x. No complaints. Don't play as much anymore so it seemed silly to keep paying V1x prices. I would love to see you guys do a video on how these mid price balls perform at Matt's speed versus the speed for this video and also how the top tier balls perform at both speeds as well. I'd be curious to see specific performance advantages/disadvantages when the swing speed doesn't match the product design. Thanks for doing what you do, always fun to watch.

I’m around a 113-115 mph swing speed with the driver so I’m not up there with him, but I like to play aggressive and not have to worry about losing the ball because I don’t get to play/practice enough anymore to justify paying for premium.

If I were a better golfer I would now be giving Titleist Tour Softs a serious look but given I'm not a very good player, I am looking forward to your review of "budget balls". I would also like to hear your opinions about best balls for high handicap and senior players. As an aside, I've watched almost all of your review and fitting videos (and really enjoy them) but I don't understand how expensive equipment/fittings can benefit high handicap players who most likely have problems with their fundamentals. It's one thing for an 18 hdcp trying to become a 12 or a 12 hdcp trying to become a 7 to pay up for a bump in performance but how much difference does equipment make for a 27 hdcp who dreams of becoming an 18? Should players at that level really be spending $500 for a driver and $5 a piece for balls?

Interesting stuff. 2 balls to look at...The Wilson Duo Urethane for around $30 and in the budget category, the Precept Laddie Extreme at around $20 for 2 doz. Both have outstanding performance for the price.

How about the NXT? My regular ball is the Prov 1. I was teeing off early, before sunrise and wanted a yellow ball. Used an NXT and got great results. For other suggestions how about some non conforming balls like Bandit or Polara?

Now that the project a is gone what would you reccomend

The Taylormade Tour Response replaced the Project (a), but I still believe the Project (a) is better, as the 2018 Project (a) also has the same dimple pattern as the TP5 balls. Find them wherever you can and buy them if you like how they perform for you. The Project (a) also makes for an excellent winter time, colder temperature ball, due to their 70 compression. For the summer, it's probably better to use a higher compression ball to get more distance, but that also depends on what your swing speed is and how many more dollars you want to spend.

Yeah the Bridgestone balls, and their claims around the 105 mph speed for changing ball. Love the RXS myself.

Great videos, guys. The testing point I have not seen is sidespin and its relation to compression, core composition and cover polymer. My reason for asking: I’ve noticed that I lose the ProV1 faster OB than the Chrome Soft. So the peak yardage for a scratch player is nice to watch, but you are crushing and not curving the ball. I want to know what ball characteristics keep the ball on the course for imperfect hits.

Can you do the 2016 or 2017 Chrome Soft versus the 2018 Chrome Soft with Graphene. These balls went from $36 to $44 per dozen and I think they are worse due to lower backspin on 100 yard shots and pitches around the green. They appear to bite a lot less and it seems counterintuitive to pay more for a ball that performs worse around the green. Thanks.

I have a mid swing speed (just) and previously played the Srixon XV but in the last year I have used either the Vice Pro Soft or TM Project (a) and without using statistical analysis found them to be similar.

The price point of these balls is just right under the price of previous year tour balls… I have found that there’s some really solid offerings in the low 20$ range that being of course like everybody else’s mention the Wilson staff duo! I really like to duo but the titliest trusoft is outstanding ball for 22$ it plays better than the velocity which is 5-8$ more expensive. I feel like the low 20 price range is the sweet spot for the average golfer that like some performance and doesn’t want to play a tour ball because of price and swing speed. PS if you want to feel like you have some real spin on wedges.... They weren’t lying about that Kirkland signature three-piece

Started playing the Z-Star with my new 585 irons....feel awesome, fly great, and talk about spin I have never had before! Still seem to be getting a "higher" ball flight (over 100 feet) 🤷🏻‍♂️

I would love to see these balls (and maybe the Callaway Supersoft and Superhot and the Wilson Staff Duo) tested by your high handicap and mid handicap players to get a better sense for me (15 handicap senior) about how these balls would perform.

What about recycled AAAAA balls say pro v1 vs new pro V1. I was thinking about buying recyceldd balls to save money.

Just noticed the Mizuno JPX ball is incredibly cost effective over here in NZ, I'd love to see it thrown in the ring for all the mizunophiles in your audience, cheers.

Loved the Project (A) but I now use used ProV1s at half the price... but when I know I’m playing in a tournament or something a little more serious I use the Project (A) and love the spin around the green.
