Golfers Elbow Treatment Exercises for Relief and Prevention
Suffering from golfers elbow? Pain when arm wrestling, throwing or gripping? Golfers elbow is a condition that causes pain where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow (medial epicondylitis). The pain might spread into your forearm and wrist. Golfer's elbow is similar to tennis elbow, which occurs on the outside of the elbow. It's not limited to golfers. We would actually call it Armwrestlers elbow because most of armwrestlers suffer from it. Always see physical therapy. If these stretches doesn`t work.

Hello, I was doing wrist pronation exercise and now there is a dull feeling when I supinate towards open palm and extend my arm and elbows all the way to lift something heavy. There is no pain. Just dull discomfort almost like something will pop or click if I supinate more. Could you please tell me what this is and how to treat it?

​@@Delije-qn7mlDepends how big it is. If it hurts a lot I wouldn't go there, just to avoid any possible injury and because it is difficult to pull someone with golfers elbow. If You just feel it slightly it's up to You how You feel about it.

@@pan4948 I can't say... I also have pain and crunch in my wrists, I made a mistake because I didn't warm up for two months, and I was exercising my forearms. I'm 44 years old. After intense sparring with my friends, my inner elbows hurt for days. Every morning when I wake up and stretch my arms, I feel pain, after that the pain subsides during the day.

You can use a "Therabar" too. Helped me a lot. Had the same problem, but after only two weeks of exercise with the Therabar the pain is almost gone

@@Kingiron88 I think my problem is smaller or just less important. I have to rest for 1/2 weeks and im fine, i do pust-ups, and train on lighter weight, and thats helps me. But mabye I'll use some of tips.

I do bouldering, and have some medial epicondyle problems and thought - What's the sport that probably wrecks elbows the most? My thought is that here rehab knowledge and exercises are most developed. And DAMN was I right. Never had such a walkthrough of elbow pain and the wrist/shoulder link! Here we have no bullshit exercises, just exercises that make sense. Thanks so much for this content! I'm going to share it with my fellow climbers!!

Thanks for the vid. I was never an arm wrestler. But have worked heavy manual labor all my life. And have had shoulder and forearm pain. So I will I try these exercises. Thanks for the help.

Always good content from you guys, Janis is the kind of guy I strive to be. Big respect from Bulgaria! Love arm wrestling and am currently studying physiotherapy. I have had golfer elbow in my early 20s and managed to treat myself just by doing exercises that didn’t hurt and gave me a really good blood flow in the area of pain ( medial epicondyle ). Enough of my rambling, keep up the good work guys 🦾

I like the add isolation of the scapula by having a partner step on the shoulder. This is fantastic for working on internal rotation even more so than external rotation!

Thanks so much for this. Been dealing with this pain for a couple months. Makes putting any side pressure painful. My left wrist flexion is far worse than my right. I can’t connect as well through my forearm because of it. After watching this it seems that may be the main reason for my pain. Gold advice. Really appreciate you guys.

Yes, at start daily, then slowly as you get stronger, take away some training. But light training everyday will help.

Excellent video! I learn a lot. I have been suffering from golf elbow for over a year. Physiotherapists haven't worked so well, so keen to try your program. So far, I have two questions: 1. Any specific stretching to add to the program? 2. Since it has been over a year, my bicep and some ligaments close to my wrist have become unhappy? Suggestions there?

The best videos ever! So much good information! I always got a little bit of pain on the inside elbow after armwrestling but nothing major. The biggest concern i i have is a sharp pain and some swelling in the wrist on the littlefinger side. Do you have any idea what that may be? is that a common problem in armwrestling?

Its might be disbalance, you need to train at least enough to get pump on all areas of forearms/arms.

i do this ,full body stretching, core exersises with kettle bells , wrists and shoulder rotation exersises with light strenght bands as a warm up before i start strongman training or armwrestling training. it takes me like 15-30 min to warm up before I start . i also do this exersises on my rest days beacause they do not make me tired.

Have had bad inner elbow pain for a while now after an intense match a few months ago. All other pains have come and gone but the inner elbow has persisted. I couldnt do pullups or one arm deadlifts at all. Few weeks of medium to light training (pro, sup, wrist curls etc) and I can now do pullups and low weight deadlifts. The pain still persists tho but I'm hoping more of the same will get rid of it completely. Thanks heaps for the vid guys. Awesome.

I had a beginning of golfer's elbow and first thing in mind was to rest...but couldn't rest more than a weekend haha. Then I began to workout without weights ( bars) doing negative grip exercises and strethcing my arms straight alot. After stretching the arms using the bars ( different positions) and doing negative grip exercises like pull=ups for example, I began to feel safer/more confident and the problem disappeared. After 2 weeks I began my usual routine using weights too ( mostly for armwrestle), beside bar training. You never disappoint guys, awesome video with awesome teachings as always. Keep going with the great job !!

@@harshspotted take rest a few days to see how it goes. Drink some collagen supplement for recovery this period. After you feel a bit better do neutral grip pull-ups, try them out and see how you feel. Stretch easy and steady those tendons and from now on warm them properly. Do the exercises from this video for strengthening. They are useful

Hello! Could you make also some video about wrist pain (especially in ulnar side) and how to fix it? I feel pain in ulnar side of my wrist when i'm doing a pronation exercises, sometimes is less if i do a supination movement for a few sets but not always. Thank you guys for your good work!

Great video. Other options include some type of self massage or foam rolling or lacrosse ball etc., heat or cold therapy, and neural glides or nerve flossing. Not to state the obvious but good nutrition and supplements will also help the body heal itself.

Thanks for this. I had golfer's elbow from doing climbing. Don't overlook the early symptoms. I didn't listen to the first signs of pain and it got really bad. Once it gets set, it takes surprisingly long to cure it and you can't even wash your face without pain. Personally, it took me five frustrating months. Interestingly, in that arm I had very poor internal and external rotation.

Should there be some pain AFTER I do these exercises? It doesn't hurt when I do the exercise, but usually gets sore for 12-24 hours after many sets of these exercises

Good video The monday i practiced armwrestling after a little injury and now i feel pain again in that middle elbow point and when i touch that part i feel te pain and when i do some strong movements or in the moment of pull something i feel a bit of pain there but just doing movements like the video everithing is fine i do not feel pain moving my arms and all, what is the best which i can do? leave the training for this weeks or i can do training with light weight 😉thanks in advance for the help❤you guys are amazing!

Rest for few days and then start slow, if you feel any pain, don`t do the movement.

How soon after medial epicondyle enjury should I be doing recovery exercises? It happened 3 days ago and I have pain when straightening my arm, even without pronation. The pain starts around 160 degrees extension of elbow, to full 180 degree. I have no pain outside this range, either in flexion or extention, but at the 160 degrees mark there is a minor pop sensation and pain.

for me, huge part of recovery is working around the area of which is hurting. and I am a huge fan of using rubber bands. high reps low resistance. and in training around, that includes the reverse muscle groups.

Interesting, I said the same thing just now - that you can train around it but not through it. Stuff like that that require months and sometimes even years to heal, you just can't mess with. You can only work through minor injuries that heal within a week anyway. By the way how high do you go on the reps? 20-30? Or more? I assume you don't go to failure?

Thank you for the video!! I climb trees professionally, and have been fighting with medial epicondylitis in both elbows for the past 6 months. Ice and ice massage provide some pain relief, but obviously don't solve the underlying issue. I'm excited to try out and see if there's any pain during the exercises you outline here. If movements can be completed pain free, what kind of weekly volume do you suggest?

You can work 2x in a day, every other day,at start light, then when you progress, once every day. Volume should be changing and adjusted to how you feel.

I’ve seen other info that shows connections to the thoracic spine or 4th rib. Any opinion on this? I train for rock climbing as well as arm wrestling and my elbows are pretty lit up.

Everything is usually connected, we have done 2 videos on thoracic syndrome , you can search the channel and find it. As Janis said, one segment higher and one lower, that`s where most times is the problem. We will do few more videos addressing different segments.

I'm a golf player, and I have soreness on both sides of the elbow on my right arm, but much more on the outer side. I have self-massage my arm; I felt a proper amount of soreness in my forearms, biceps, and triceps. The massage relieved some of the pain. I didn't know that the pain in the elbow can be from some complications in the triceps.

You have to do strengthening exercises for all muscles in upper arm and forearm, so this is not issue, massage will help, but not fix it.

Very often there is an biomechanical Problem in the ellbow and you have to Manipulate the ellbow from medial to lateral and IT makes a big Pop...for me this fix every ellbow Problem, Just saying in Case musclework dont Help, but a professionel should do that.good Video

The first time I trained direct side pressure, Todd Hutchings style, I developed this exact pain in my left elbow. I've tried a lot of high rep forearm work but it didn't seem to help. Deep tissue massage has done the most for it. I never considered it coming from my shoulder.

Try hand grippers. Low weight high reps captians of crush gets blood in the tendons. Really helps heal.

Have a a pain in elbow when I hook and try to press its shape pain in my inner elbow is this a golfers elbow this I golf alot but never feel it until I arm wrestle and as of now can only top roll can't hook at all

Im feeling pain in my inside upper part of elbow, that’s in lowest part of upper arm. I guess due to over training, or picking too big weights. Only pain I get is side pressure and the worst is supination if it's pronation muscles then why does my supination hurt so bad on inner elbow ... Plus my strength is going down lots

I got a problem with my elbow after training a lot of pullups. I was very sore for 6 months. You could see with ultrasound that a tendon on the inside of the elbow had broken a little. About 5 percent. The pain was linked to the ring finger and middle finger. Now it's been two years and I can work out at the gym. However, I can't do pullups and can't run 100 percent in tensile exercises without the elbow getting irritated. I have checked with ultrasound again what the damage looks like and it is no longer there. But the elbow still gets annoyed when I'm in the gym.

I have no major problems with heavy deadlifting. But when I'm going to do pullups and grip a rod hard while bending the elbow joint it hurts right away.

I had the same problem. I tried different exercises to try and help but it was to no avail. Things only got worse. Eventually, things went back to normal and the pain subsided but only after ceasing all activity for a couple of months.

I got hurted my elbow while arm wrestling my friend , pain were gone after 1 week but when I try to armwrestle and use real power it hurts again exactly there where u showed us.(elbow). So if I try out these exercises is there any chance I still can arm wrestle and don't get pain in my elbow?

My pain is exactly where Janis showed in the video.The most acute pain i get when someone is top rolling me.This is the most painful moment of armwrestling atm for me.I hope cupping will repair that . What do you think of this?

Voice of Armwrestling Not really.The problem occured 5 months ago.Since then i had tried everything.Armwrestling everyday , not armwrestling a month , different kind of lifht weight exercises.It still hurts and i cant cup a top roller.I am going to see a doctor these days.

@@joannaarmin1746 Yes , it’s gone long time ago.I took pills and stuff back then but the problem was only temporary resolved.Only time helped , i remember it took around 6 months but during that time i was still armwrestling.

@@yashgarg4416 Hi man. I just did my regular workout. I did not completely rest it. I still did movements so that there's blood flow in the injured area for it to recover. I think I took a rest from direct sidepressure work but still did bicep curls.

You don’t need to stop trainings at all when You have Injuries. But modify your workouts, find exercise You can do without pain. Same actually with sparing. Very often injuries are result of not proper training planing. -Janis

Michael Todd advocates training through it but I'm not sure that's a good advice. I mean you can train *around* it but not through it. Janis is right in saying that you should stop the moment you feel pain or discomfort. I'm currently dealing with an inside elbow pain when doing supinated curls. Not sure if it's golfer's elbow but I can still curl any other way without aggravating the tendon inflammation, or at least I hope I'm not. It's strange that the pain came after a shoulder workout and I didn't feel any discomfort whatsoever during the said workout. Couple of days later on my next workout I was super confused what that strange feeling near my medial epicondilate was. I like to think I have pretty strong forearm muscles and tendons so I'm not sure what Janis means by strenghtening that area. Isn't golfer's elbow caused by overuse, not by weakness/imbalance?
