And I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel like if author tried to make a cool epic fight out of this, it wouldn't express Gon's emotions as much as what actually happened.
This is still one of the most brutal scenes in any anime. No drawn out flashy battle, no extraneous build up, just Gon straight up showing Pitou they were gonna die and violating Geneva Conventions in any world.
this is peak anime. from such an unassuming source. my friend tried to get me to watch it for years and naturally struggled to get into it. only the murderous clown drew me in but jesus christ this moment has yet to be beaten in anime
“He forced his body to mature to an age where he can defeat me…” No dear, he forced his Body to mature to an age where he can easily one shot you with no effort at all! That’s slightly different 😂😂
Watching it initially, I thought of it as Gon being backstabbed by Pitou (whom they were tricked into doing so by Pouf) and undergoing a deadly upgrade to commence some vengeance to satisfy his loss of hope, with a bittersweet end to end this complicated enemy. Years later, I realized that it was Gon's worldview being completely challenged to a greater extent than the Phantom Troupe of what's good and evil on top of his hopes of Kite being brought back being dashed. On one hand, Pitou had killed Kite and lobotomized others yet was showing a desire to protect/humble themselves for the sake of others- showing the hypocrisy Gon detests- and unlike the Troupe, Pitou is being genuine instead of having half-measures of caring only for their own group. And in this shattering of his ideology, the darkness that was always there comes out threatening a helpless girl if Pitou doesn't comply with his demands and being callously nasty to his best friend- both of these with him clearly not in his right mind. When Gon becomes his ultimate form, it's not a young man giving up everything to put down an enemy for the greater good and to appease his vengeance for Kite's sake- it's a child covering his doubts and insecurities with shallow strength and a facade of maturity in appearance only, beating up an enemy to fulfill his selfishness. Much like with Meruem and Netero, it could've been a resolution of words rather than giving into violence brought on by the darkness of the human heart- with both "victors" losing because they gave up their integrity for the sake of fulfilling their ego of humanity, while ironically becoming aberrations of humanity in doing so.
God this is so well said, thank you for verbalizing this! It also made me realize that it makes sense that I thought adult Gon looked disproportionate and weird, almost uncanny valley territory with that stoic face. Of course he doesn’t look right, it’s very much a facade
The raw concern on Killuas face hurt my heart he really cared about his friend and pleaded for him to stop so he wouldn't loose him. This is why I like bromance over BL. Having a friendship this strong is everything.
When he says, "You're such a liar" it sends chills down my spine. You can hear him give into the malice in that single phrase and it's the exact moment Pitou knew there was going to be a problem.
The price he paid was everything. This is a mistranslation and it conveys a different meaning tbh the sub translation hits wayy harder imo. "I don't care what happens to me now, I need more power" versus "I don't care if this is the end, so...I'll use everything." And that he did, Gon used everything he had to offer for this contract, his life, his nen, everything. Real shame the translation failed us for the dub in that exchange.
And this error with translation has created a misconception about what Gon did here. Adult Gon isn't really what Gon would've been as an adult. He obtain that power because of the condition and the exchange he made. That power is not his full potential unleashed, it's a power obtained exchaging his talent.
@@davide6929glad you mentioned that because, like you said, thanks to the translation error I was under the impression he was going to be that powerful as an adult.
Man I need a new season of Hunter X Hunter. I’ll wait as long as it takes. I know the writer is having some health issues but hopefully the show can return very soon ❤
I can't say I would have done any different. In the least. The last look back was apologizing to Kilua for having to witness him like that. A man's inner rage....
I always wondered if Biscuit had to unknowingly make an exchange for her ability to transform her body. She doesnt make herself younger necessarily as her smaller form is just as honed as her real form. She said it took her years of wishing for it, so I wonder if Gon subconciously took that idea and went all or nothing with it. Maybe without knowing of Biscuit being capable, this wouldnt have happened. Gon, like his father, could possibly copy abilities to an extent if nen ends up having an hereditary aspect to it. Me rambling on an anime/manga that will never be finished 😭
I think killua literally talked about this, I forgot what he said exactly but he said something about this being different then biscuit and what biscuit did was only changing here appearance while still keeping the same exact aura and strength while gon did the opposite. If I’m right, I’m pretty sure he literally says it in this fight just it was cut out
The fact Gon never fear to be injured, lost arm, foot, his life, he absolutely don't care, the only think he want is to win make him for sure the most dangerous opponent but only for one fight, because he should win but lost everything in the process. So far he make that 2 times but was lucky each time to survive...
Gons nen ability turned him into a dragonball z character. I love this scene it gets built up so good too like you know Gon is going to go off for almost 40 episodes. When Morel challenged him to this scene you can just tell
This and the kings death left huge impact on my rankings for this anime. Easy to recommend it for quality watch. If they intend to finish series that is.
When Gon found out Pitou was lying after all that time? I felt him snap. I felt him spiritually in my soul. And even at the final fight? More tricks and schemes. Felt so good to watch her be crushed. Killua stopped Gon from becoming a murderer of an innocent girl though. Because when he asked Pitou who it was he had to save? The look in Gon’s eyes were “Alright maybe I should take away somebody important to you too”
when we got a close up of her face after gone used rock on her, i had a smile that was bigger than the big bang cuz i was so happy, and then we heard shotguns, but they weren't shotguns, they Gon fucking abusing Pitou.
Idk maybe it’s just me but “you’re such a liar” is an almost childish phrase and it works perfectly. It’s a harsh juxtaposition with what he turns into and a reminder that he is not a pawn fighting the chimera ants, not an amount of power, but a child who’s been treated unfairly and dealt with far too much.
