I think this SAS guide is as essential for kids as a sharp pocket knife and a quality bivvy to support their coming-of-age adventures in a bigger garden, on a beach, or on their first overnight hike or canoe overnight outing, completely offline, of course .... still use it by times and each time looking into it lively remember the grandpa who gave it to me over 40 yrs ago.

My local library has a books for sale trolley, and a lot of these are books donated by people. Often the donated books are from the collections of people who have died, and the books weren't wanted by the family. They are a rich source of "treasures", and I find a lot of goodies browsing..

I used to have a copy of Lofty's book as a kid, but no idea where it went. Recently, after a slightly beer assisted evening, with old school friend, brought myself another copy. I also went on a week long survival course with the company that Lofty set up. Didn't see the man himself, and didn't expect to. But some good instructors and a thoroughly good time was had.

I love the fact you value books,I have thrown and burnt hundreds of books clearing buildings never could give them away due to damp and rough condition.Best books if you are into self sufficiency are anything by Jack Hargreaves.I used to take great pleasure in fireside reading during winter months,I thought I would carry this pleasure into latter life but chainsaw and rock drilling work has left me with tinnitus and I can't concentrate,that's one of the reasons you have a loyal subscriber.

We're about to move to a smallholding and this series of videos has been an excellent watch for me.I watch Andy Reynolds channel,the elecktrickery stuff is a bit beyond me at times but still interesting and I would like to try rigging up some solar stuff. Shame the Seymour book isn't instructional we could learn a lot from the past. As for the SAS book I've never seen it but still think it should be mandatory reading on the school curriculum for all young lads.May be we wouldn't have so many spoilt and entitled young people as we have today. You never know they might even take their noses off their phone screens for a while.

I would like to recommend this book "Enquire Within Upon Everything" , it is an old 1853 encyclopedia that is filled with all kinds of historical information from that period as well as several household hints they thought were important. It is still in print and it is in its 113th edition so I think you should be able to find a copy at a specialist bookshop.

The thing about making instructional videos on things like solar power is it's a case of "How long is a piece of string?", as everyone will have a different setup, situation and access to materials, so, it'd be better just to be a general look at rather than a how-to... :)

@TheInfoworks
@TheInfoworks 5 лет назад
Hi, it depends on the topography and any local obstructions, here in the fens 10 metres is OK but suprisingly enough right on the eastern seaboard we are in a low average windspeed area of 5 m/s, but our turbine makes a significant contribution especially in winter when the solar generation is much lower. So why are we doing this when there are multiple countries with over a billion people trying to escape this way of life? You have to ask what made this guy check out. That's the interesting story. No normal person chooses extend discomfort then decides to make that permanent. The common denominator with these guys is they all have a survival focused attitude. Anyone can work 9-5 and survive. You can challenge yourself personaly without having nothing just aim higher in different places. In my opinion these people give up on society because they never find a place in it that suits them. Which is a shame this man seems motivated and intelligent. I believe that in the future we will look back on these people leaving our society and treat it more like the a warning sign of social unrest. It's a sad that people feel like this is their only option. You should be able to do what you want but some of these channels feel like adult escapism. At least he's not focused on an imaginary apocalypse.
