You can get the Foxfire books through the Foxfire museum. They still publish the magazine, which is basically what the books are. An anthology of the magazine. Lehman’s also has the books as well. However, please go support the museum.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard how nuts I am to have a library of printed books. Too many people rely on the internet for "life sustaining" info. Love my Foxfire books! Love my Encyclopedia of Country Living. Love all of my canning and preserving food books. Love my nutrition and healing and medical books. Love my cookbooks. I have hand me down cookbooks and canning/preserving books from as far back as 1958. Herbal, gardening...All kinds of books! Yes. Have printed books folks. Good info, thank you!

I'd like to add one to your list, for the people who are just now thinking of moving out of the city or 'burbs and considering homesteading: Finding and Buying Your Place in the Country by Les Scher. (I may have butchered his name!) It talks about easements, orientation to the sun for growing, riparian rights, zoning laws, etc. I found it SO helpful when I was looking for my land.

My kids think I'm crazy for still buying books. They're in their 20's. My husband is going n the computer/ internet field. He sets up the call centers and makes sure they stay up at our hospital and others world wide. So I understand. They think I'm paranoid. I just told them, " Well, if you never use them they are just collecting dust. If you NEED them, we will have them."

Trump just issued an executive order to protect the power grid from attack. Everyone knows what that means...
@Ashamandre
@Ashamandre 4 года назад
If the electrical grid suffers, books can still be read. If the internet crashes, books can still be read, written, and printed. If ancients had internet, all we have left are stone tablets and cave paintings. Digital disappears, physical materials hold up better. Never stop building your library of knowledge.

Those old Boy Scout manuals and the Field Guide are good books as well. Knots, camping, first aid, cooking are a few of the merit badges I earned. For the record, not once was I ever sexually molested when I was Boy Scout. It's an awful shame a few have spoiled many generations of good deeds. Recent news has made this Boy Scout very sad. I got as far as Star rank. I got the mile swim patch. I was in the Order of the Arrow., the brotherhood of cheerful service.

I'd add cookbooks from before world war ii because they use easy to find practical ingredients and may contain recipes for squirrel and other small game. We keep basic car repair books around. We keep a 28 volume enclopedia on the shelf. Its old, its out dated, but some stuff never changes, and flipping through the pages often prompts an interest in a subject that can lead you to more current information. And any fiction books for kids that would inspire imagination and help them see adversity as an adventure. Think along the lines of My Side of the Mountain, the Little House on the Prarie series, or an unabridged copy of The Swiss Family Robinson.

I also keep colloidal silver on hand, my family has used it very successfully on their dairy farm. For keeping wounds & burns ( spray it on ) from getting infected, and in with epsom salts ( my mom makes it, which is simple but I've yet to get my husband to help me set ours up & do it ) so, we could afford to use a cupful or 2 in with hot/warm water & the E. S. for hoof issues. I'm not into using it internally unless it really is called for, for humans anyways, as I natural health experts I trust warn against it.

My mom is a homeopathic/nutritionist and we used activated charcoal for SO many things...it's inexpensive, too! It's used to treat infections, gas aches, poisonous spider bites, etc. Put a poltice on your infected tooth (on the gum) overnight with some charcoal in a little peice of stretched cotton ball. For ear infections- We also add just a little warm water just to make the charcoal pourable into the ear- works miracles!!! Takes away pain from infections fast:)

Good video, very useful info here that I love . maybe a video on the importance of books and the right ones! we trust the internet way way way to much and what would we do with out that resource, books on everything.. homeschooling, What we feed our kids minds, spiritual, what we feed ourselves, as well as books on homesteading skills or gardening, solar stuff, etc.... books are important and specifically the right ones, what do you read or keep on hand? Have you written any? What do your kids read besides homeschooling books or what type of Bible do you and they read? Maybe go through our demo, etc. Like the antibiotics, do you have any of these the book suggests, a few things you find important or what not in some of the books. I got to get these books now and start practicing the skills🙂 I love any and all videos on homeschooling you do as well as things maybe boring to you but simple daily life, chores, or nature, etc.. videos rock to. Great video, or should I say, another great video. Been thinking hard about starting a meat rabbit set up. But the thought of "disbatching" a young healthy rabbit is more than a little disturbing. I think I could do the butchering aspect after that but, yeah, killing a healthy animal is currently outside of my wheel house (the thought of watching my dogs starve to death may help me work through it though, the pressure to create your own food security is very real now). My diet includes only about 5 to 10% meat so, not much, but since I live in a tract house with a rather small yard, I think rabbit meat may be something I can produce on my lot. It would also be something I could barter with or trade for other valuable comodities. The "Butcher" book sounds like a smart move for me. A word about the history books, however. Go watch the Corbett Report documentaries on WW1, the Federal Reserve, and Big Oil. You might have a different interpretation on your understanding of our true history.

Just a heads up, I've done the fish antibiotics thing and gave myself the worst yeast infection I've ever had in my life. Ended up at the doctor anyway for a significantly more embarrassing reason than the original problem. That should be an absolute last ditch, "it's a full blown apocalypse, there are no doctor's left and the current infection might kill me" attempt at self-medicating.
