Thanks for the video. Found this video long after I had purchased a Buck 112 Slim Pro (tan). I had the same issues with the Pro model and finally decided to contact Buck to see if they had a remedy. They apologized about the issues and offered to replace the knife, however, they admitted that they had some quality control issues with the 112 Pro series. I did not purchase this knife from Buck. They offered to send the classic 112 Ranger with leather sheath to me as a replacement for the Pro seres if that would satisfy me. I took them up on it. The classic is the best knife I have ever owned. Busk’s customer service and famous Forever Warranty are the best in the industry.

I love the 112 pro. I have two of them one tan and the other green. I purchased them from Amazon two months apart. Both of mine were perfect, with no centering problems or wobble. They are ideal for carrying in my purse and fit my smaller hand well.

I agree with Buck knives attitude towards their quality control. American made means less when the company dose not give a hoot. I have a Vantage Pro that has been sitting in a drawer for more than 2 years. It has a poorly manufactured liner lock. Used it for awhile and developed bad up and down blade play. Had same issue with a small Spitfire. I don't even want to take the time and return these knives. it. Just don't want to deal with Buck. Maybe when they take QC more seriously.

I work in concrete membranes and excavation. It's rough rough conditions for any and all tools. Mud, dust, concrete, wet, damp, cold, , hot...I bought a 112 slim for 20 Canadian dollars, so like 12$ usd. I having been using it everyday for 6 months on the job. It has performed so well so far that I can't believe it. If you are a real worker and need something tough, reliable, easy to sharpen and great to use get yourself one of these. Of course it isn't perfect but for 20$ you can't do any better.

Love my slim select tan. Had a 110 slim pro but wasn’t as happy with it. Was beautiful, but more flex side to side and after a short while opening and closing felt a bit gritty. May simply be that that thin micarta without any liner is just not rigid enough. Sold it and most of my knives a year or 2 ago. On a whim saw the112 slim select last weekend while buying a forest pass and gave in. LOVE it in tan. Perfect size for normal tasks and superb value. Coworkers loved it too.

I just picked up a slim yesterday and came here to see what Aaron thought. I didn’t like the bump that he talked about where the blade and lock meet, since I work in a machine shop I carefully polished it off. I also found that my thumb stud was loose. A quick tap between two pieces of brass and this knife is good to go. At nearly 24 hours in I’m liking it. And unlike my Benchmade 943 if I lose it I won’t have to save up to replace it. So far a great EDC for less than $30.

The 112 Ranger is probably my very favorite folding knife, but it's not very convenient to carry. I was happy to see the 112 slim. Thanks for your very informative video on this knife. It made my decision to purchase one easier. I HATE the pocket clip, but I'm sure I have something in my knife graveyard to replace it. Most of the other videos I've seen about the 112 slim were just comparisons to far more expensive knives. A couple years back I bought several of the Ka-Bar Doziers for gifts etc. I got them for about $17 and am still convinced its the best knife bargain I've ever found. It's a great knife.

Thanks for your review and thoughts. I’ve been wanting to buy a Slim Pro for the Micarta and better steel but that is a big factor with the fit and finish especially at $80. I’ll look at the Kabar, just wish they had a deep carry pocket clip option

Watching this after I bought the Buck Slim Select (same green/yellow one you have) before Christmas and I have been very pleased with the knife. Bought it after a Benchmade was knicked. Only thing I'd like to see is for Buck to make a similar Slim series with a spring blade assist. All around it has been a great knife for under $30.

thanks for your great vids and knives tests, always full of information and very usefull ! I was really about to get a Buck Slim Pro Micarta because I love the look and the concept but the issues with centering and play of the blade kept me away from purchasing one ! From Buck and with the price of this guy, it's really crippling ! So I went for a Buck 112 LT and for the money, I'm really happy. Thanks again and keep going...

Aaron. I just bought the I just bought the Buck 112 Slim Ranger Pro today at Sportsman Warehouse. I usually carry a Recon1, but wanted to get something small for certain affairs. My Buck 112 Slim Ranger Pro doesn't have any of the issues you experienced with yours. I did hear that Buck addressed all those issues so I gave it a try. This little knife is impressive and cuts like a scalpel. I removed the pocket clip and screws so I can just drop in in to my pocket. I checked out the Native 5, but the cutting edge was just too short for the price.

I really, really like the 112 Slim. The FRN (or GRN) handles are, well, slim, but they're also really light. I have to touch my pocket several times a day to make sure the knife is where it's supposed to be. The one-handed opening and closing are just a significant bonus. It's not the best slicer among the knives I own, but it's adequate. A lot of people bitch about the pocket clip but I have no problem with it at all. It may not be the prettiest clip ever, but it does its job admirably, once I loosened it up a bit. With this knife and an SAK I feel like I'm ready for just about anything.

I've had a 110 traditional since 1986, absolutely fantastic lock knife and still my favourite blade. Last year i purchased a slim model over here in the UK, it was 40 pounds and again is fantastic so last week i ordered the pro. It arrived today and i think it's amazing except it has a lose thumbstud that rattles and won't tighten up at all so it's going back, for 95 pounds it's a bit of a let down but hopefully the replacement one will be 100%

The original SLIM Buck 112 with a pocket V sharpener is an amazing gift unit, even for oneself, it just performs forever as an easy use/easy sharpening/easy maintain working unit. That said a finger grooved Original 110 with ebony scales is soul food in knife form.

I had a similar experience with the Vantage. Bought the cheap 420hc model and loved it. Still have it. Liked it so much I bought the SV30 model with G10 handles. Same exact problem you had. loose lock up and horrible centering. Returned it and the second one was the same. Decided not to try for a 3rd. This was a few years ago. No idea if they're better.

Good review. If you look up the Buck 450C, you will see a familiar blade shape from 20 years ago. I have the 450, field dressed a black bear and a boatload of squirrels with it. I'm fine with either tip but I suspect the less pointy tip is less prone to breakage.

Aaron I copped both the slim and slim pro, but the hunter version. I dig the tang/lock back butt joint. It acts like jimping in a way. I find it to be a better knife than my Endura 4, just like how my Spitfire beats out the Delica. Wish I could adjust the pivot on the Buck. But I have yet to need to. I do like pin construction on the handle though. One of the things I like about my Manix 2 lightweight. Can't argue with the Dozier from Ka-bar though. I bought 3 of those, plus one for my daughter.

Reading these comments is interesting. I remember when I gave a luke-warm review to the classic 110 and Bantam knives and EVERYONE freaked out on me, saying that Buck's quality was amazing and that I was just an idiot. But it seems to general view has changed, good thing to because I hate when people hide being "it's made in the USA" for a statement of quality. It really doesn't mean anything if the company doesn't give a damn. I know I'm late to the video but, excellent job!

The blade shape on the slim is very similar to the Buck 650 Nighthawk which I was able to recently acquire (1995 satin version) and is an awesome 1/4" fixed blade slicer. So the slim blade looks to be more of a stabber like the 650 Nighthawk. I might get the 110 slim as a second knife to fit in the sheath pocket of my Ontario SP51 and RD7 sheaths. As I've stated before, I see no need for "super steel" knives anymore. All the Benchmade, Cold Steel, USA Gerber, Spyderco super steel knives I've collected over the years just sit in a drawer now. That BOS 420HC is all you need in the field or at the campsite. I don't want to have to sit through a super steel sharpening session on a pocket sharpener in the middle of a backpacking trip when that 420HC will take a razor edge quick. The same goes for 5160 on my fixed blades. Good review as usual.

I have six 112s including two 2 dots one made in ‘93 and one made in ‘13 F&F on all is great both 2 dots made recent trips to the Spa and one got a new blade. My fifth is a green Paperstone version that gets pocket carried often. Love it. Still wondering why it was discontinued. My sixth is a green slim. I do actually like the blade shape but don’t carry it much. My ‘93 gets the almost daily nod. I like the weight.

Replacing the curved clip with a straight clip isn't putting a V6 in your 5.0L Mustang, it's changing rear drum brakes to 4 wheel disks. The curved clip is great for knife fighting like Jim Bowie wanted on his knife, but the straight clip gives better blade geometry and makes a slightly stronger blade. Maybe it isn't as good at piecing flesh on an attacker, but it's a more useful point for todays EDC needs.

When they announced the pro version with micarta handles, better steel, I was so stoked. Then I saw the knife... then reviews started to come in... Some things I think a knife with micarta needs are good liners and the handle scales screws need to be removable, if for no other reason than to adjust centering (and all other good reasons including proper cleaning). I also hate the pocket clip. So disappointed. My quest for the perfect, high quality bush knife, EDC folder with micarta handles continues.

I like what they're trying for. The old Buck 110's were nail nick, heavy, slippery, and fell to the bottom of a pocket. I didn't like that. However they were really good, sturdy tools. Sturdier than competitors. Make them one-handed opening, a bit lighter, and grippier, with a pocket clip? That's all good! S30V? Good!

I didn't like the buck slim or the buck pro because the handle material seemed cheap but I did like the pocket clips. So what I did was drilled and tapped the brass so I could put a pocket clip on the original. I have big hands so the original fit me because it was alot thicker. Plus I don't like the thumb studs either they get in the way when I clean and cook fish when I'm camping.

I've found on every non-linered micarta knife I own, the centering gets worse and worse, and eventually the blade ply gets to a point I won't use the knife due to safety concerns, Micarta is tough, but not stable enough to not have some type of liner,, be it Brass, nickel, stainless, ,, I love micarta for scales, not complete handles,

I love the 110s and have quite a few of them. 420hc blades, s30v and s35vn blades. From just the knives I have owned, I have found that the quality on the higher end knives are complete shit! My 110 pro when closing hits the spacer on the inside which causes a nick towards the tip of the blade also, the g10 is not flat mounted all the way on the nickel, it has a nice space that you can see through in one small spot. My aluminum blostered drop point has the same issue with the hitting the inside and causing a nick towards the tip of the blade. My SK blades Silverfox with the cpm20cv blade also hits the inside and causes a nick towards the tip of the blade. Lastly, my slim CF with the s35vn blade and limited issue also hits the inside which caused a nick in towards the tip the first time I closed it. Buck's fix! Charge me to have it resharpened when this obviously seems like a quality control issue. Very dissatisfied with their response on how to take care of this.

A step in the right direction to be sure but Buck should've taken it one step further; liner lock and screw construction.

I just ordered the 112 Pro. It has the upgraded steel, G10, and still has the feel and robust build of the original! I looked at the slim pro in a knife store, and it was too thin and looked a bit fragile. It just did not feel like a 112, sorry Buck!

Ugh, my slim plastic one has a terrible recurve on it because of the grind near the choil

For $30 that 112 Lite is a great deal. I'm tired of people ragging on 420HC, for almost any normal purpose it's phenomenal steel.

WTH Buck? Thanks for the review on these, but those CQ issues are sad and unacceptable from an American made knife co especially Buck! And those pocket clips are so Ugly! Sticking with my 110

I bought one a few months ago. The clip is actually really strong. Stronger than the Dozier compared with in the video and a lot stronger than some other Buck's I own with clip. I thought it was strange at first but compared to everything else I've carried it doesn't get in the way of snagging on anything since it's short and wide. Don't knock it till you try it.

I ground about 1/8” off each side of my old regular 110 and I’m planning to drill and tap the rear bolsters for a generic pocket clip. Problem solved 😃.

Buck has got to get their act together on the blade play and the centering .. how hard is that to do .some one is not doing their job right .if they can get it right on the other buck then why can they not do it right on the other. Mm

Not a fan of the pocket clip design, would like to see the 112 classic come with a slimmer pocket clip.

Really surprised (and a little sad) that a great old American knife company like Buck would release the Pro version with all the centering and lockup issues they have.
