Will Hunting (Matt Damon) has a genius-level IQ but chooses to work as a janitor at MIT. When he solves a difficult graduate-level math problem, his talents are discovered by Professor Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard), who decides to help the misguided youth reach his potential. When Will is arrested for attacking a police officer, Professor Lambeau makes a deal to get leniency for him if he will get treatment from therapist Sean Maguire (Robin Williams).

Without Kevin Smith becoming a producer on the film Good Will Hunting, no studio wanted either Matt Damon nor Ben Affleck in the lead roles. Even though they had both written the screenplay, the studios considered them to be unknowns. Kevin Smith, thankfully, convinced them otherwise. Please watch Clerks.(1994) Written/Directed/Starring Kevin Smith Clerks was also filmed by Smith with a mere budget of $27K.

The depth of maturity in the script is baffling when you realize how young Matt and Ben where when they wrote it. It is just on another level. And without this movie Matt Damon wouldn't have cost humanity an arm and a leg saving him from distant planets. 🤣

What Dreams May Come, Dead Poets Society, and Good Morning Vietnam are excellent drama choices for Robin Williams. The Birdcage is frickin hilarious, and One Hour Photo is creepy and unnerving.

@@jennthabombdiggity the only reason I didn't recommend it is because younger viewers tend to find the dated effects distracting, not to mention the dark fantasy elements in an otherwise straight story. It's a beautiful story, though; maybe I should give Tim more credit.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, 'Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.' Man bursts into tears. Says, 'But doctor…I am Pagliacci.' Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

Sad but true. One of my college friends took his own life on his 21st birthday. He was the class clown. I read Steve Martin's auto biography, Born Standing Up. He talked about the hardships of being a comedian. It's easy to forget that doing comedy is a job - a highly competitive and dispiriting one at that. No wonder that a lot of them, even the most successful ones, are depressed or addicted to substances.

I'd recommend Dogma (Damon,Affleck, Alan Rickman&more), the devil's advocate (Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves),Attack the block, District 9...there's slot of good movies out there. Love Good Will Hunting! Perfect classic to rewatch every time it comes across my screen.

It's funny you mention Robin Williams bc I literally just got done watching THE BIRDCAGE for the first time in like twenty years. Absolutely hysterical. Can't believe I forgot how funny that movie is. He can obviously hold his own in dramatic roles, as you just saw, but he was a certified genius at comedy.

Please watch One Hour Photo. People classify it as a psychological suspense movie, but personally, I've always found it to be low-key a tragedy; I think it's actually more sad than anything else. It's a contender for one of my favorite Robin Williams roles, he's so restraint and dramatic it's freaky when you think about how "comedic" he can otherwise be.

Try looking at situations from someone else's eyes instead of your own. Everyone is so full of their own idea of what 'should be', and it's a big problem in this world right now. Everyone pushed that on Forrest's "Jenny" the same way. The self righteousness in this world is very evident on reaction channels.

Someone has probably already said this but this film is lit and Matt and Ben Affleck won the Oscar for best screenplay for writing the film you should watch Manchester by the sea (2016) staring Ben Affleck’s brother Casey Affleck he won best actor for it and it made me realize that Ben Affleck is a worse actor than Casey a way worse actor but is talented and better at other stuff like writing but definitely watch Manchester by the sea also Michelle Williams who is also in it got nominated for best actress and a think one the film is a Amazon original and it kinda reminds me of this film

Just a thought, but maybe you don't have to react to every spoken line. It seems that you often missed key dialogue because you were constantly talking over the actors. Silence can be golden, and by being a more attentive viewer, I think you'd better position yourself to offer deeper and more meaningful insights upon a film's conclusion instead of the 45-second cursory synopsis you offered here.
