You guys know that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wrote this too right? And there is a hilarious interview with Matt Damon where he says someone from the FCC or something approached them because they liked the script but wanted to be able to broadcast it on cable TV, so they asked if Matt and Ben could reduce the number of times they said F$!k in the movie, because the limit for cable was like 6x or something. Matt replied saying yeah, how many are we over? And they were over by like 120 or something, hahahahhaha 😂

My favorite story about the script is that when they were trying to get it re-sold (there's a long story about how multiple studios and directors were involved; I believe it was at that stage where this happened), they were sure that the studios weren't even reading the rewrites they were doing so they started inserting scenes of Sean and Will doing... sexually explicit... things to each other and, sure enough, no one noticed because no one WAS even bothering to read the rewrites. Until they sold it to Miramax, at which point Harvey Weinstein (may he rot) said to them, "It's great, but you gotta take the blowjobs out."

The scene where Robin is talking about his wife farting wasn't scripted and the laughing was genuine, you can she the camera shake slightly during the scene bc the cameraman was laughing too 😁

The part with Robin telling Matt “it’s not your fault” over and over really fucking hit as someone with trauma. That’s the one line I wanted someone to tell me that genuinely meant it and not tell me in that passive “yeah yeah let me tell you this so you can stfu and I can go home to and watch my tv” kind of way. And the way Matt Damon breaks down in that scene hurts beyond anything because you can just tell that’s one of those cries from the depth of your soul with the utmost pain you can ever feel. Idk if he’s just that good of an actor or he actually related personally to it but damn it hurts every time.

This is possible. I also think that because he's just literally so smart, he could have easily come up with 12 names off the top of his head.... when she asks him to repeat it he does so easily. It could have been another way for the film to show just how incredible his intellect is.

This was certainly a symbiotic relationship; I believe Will helped counsel Sean to reduce his isolation, to "put his cards on the table" again. Will even helped the Ben Afleck character become a helper of people, as well. Sean found the good Will Hunting under all the pain, behind the bad behavior.

@sherrysink3177

One little detail that always cracks me up is when Will and Sean are in Sean's office for the session after the one where Will just counted the seconds. In this next session, Will's just sitting there, and Sean is whistling. I've always wondered if Robin Williams improvised what to whistle because what he chose was hilarious -- it's a Barbra Streisand song called "People," and the line he's whistling is "People who need people are the luckiest people in the world..." Which is hilariously pointed given he's trying to get Will to finally talk and say something honest about himself and that it's okay to lean on and need other people in your life rather than pushing people away and being alone. So every time I watch that scene, I tip my hat to Robin, because I wouldn't be surprised if he improv'd that music choice and it's probably the most fitting thing for the subject of the film. Cracks me up and impresses me at the same time. I love how Robin's mind worked. ❤

For me, the movie wasn't about Will getting with Skylar. It was about him opening up, dealing with his past or walking the path of becoming free. So it doesn't have an open ending :) Plus, I don't think he's quite ready to say love yet. It would be a whole second movie with him changing and them growing together, building a new life

I believe the term, “Good” before a name is a reference from the Puritans. Before Mister and Misses, they referred to men and women as Goodman/Goodwife followed by their last name. The women was shortened to Goody then their name. The book/movie The Crucible uses it often. I think the men’s use of Goodman was shortened to Good. So Master/Mister Will Hunting would be Good Will Hunting.

They are both great! Robin Williams...no words can express how much I truly love this man. I think him & George Carlin are the only people I never met, but can honestly say, I loved. Problem 2 actually just asks for Cayley’s formula that for every positive integer n the number of trees on n-labeled vertices is nⁿ⁻². The formula is named after Arthur Cayley, but has been known since it was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Borchardt in 1860. In Cayley’s 1889 note A theorem on trees in the Quarterly Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, he extended the formula by taking into account the degrees of the vertices, and so it has since bore his name. There are several known proofs of the result.
