Sad to say goodbye to summer 2019 but excited to be able share this little video of all my super 8 footage I shot this summer. Filmed in Vancouver, Whistler and Regina
Everyone giving credits to the Super8 film but it’s honestly props to the filmmaker for choosing the right type of shots, handheld and shaky, the right types of moments (happy and nostalgic) . Even the locations are very well picked out. Really good job in this . I like it
It’s crazy how back then we just wanted more and more advancements in technology but now we’re at a point where the most beautiful things are what we already had the whole time...
I've been depressed for a very long time, this gem of a film just made me realise how beautiful life can be and how you captured it perfectly. Just cried, thank you
I've had depression for 3 years, and on 2019.01.01 decided to film my year, so there would be some sort of a reason to "finish" the year. I edited the video on the NYE, and it healed me so much. To see how much stuff I did, how much I cried and how much I survived. Filming was my therapy in 2019 ant the video was like graduation. I uploaded it on YT, even though I'm not a youtuber or anything. But if anyone ever stumbles up on it - I hope it makes them feel something. Sending hugs, wherever you are.
I get how you feel However, you have to go out on adventures on your own volition. I'm a homebody that has a dumb sense of wanderlust. So I wont go out unless someone asks me to. The other night I went on a 2 hour long drive with some buddies cause they were bored and what we came across could make a nice little thriller. Youth is what you make of it. Use it wisely cause 30 is just around the corner
Seeing this in 2020 hits differently. When I first saw this video, I thought the 8mm film made it look like I was watching footage from a different time. Now watching this video, I know that I am actually looking at footage from a different time. We didn't know what we were in for when we said goodbye to summer of 2019.
@Online Stranger How about going to Carrauntoohil for the weekend and hiking to the summit? expertvagabond.com/carrauntoohil-hiking-ireland/ I'd love to be able to do that. Here in Toronto I have to drive 6hr into the US to find some decent mountains to hike (Lake Placid, NY). I would really like to hike Ben Nevis in Scotland one day.
It's so wild that 2019 was such a different world than the one we live in now. And at the time we thought it was so terrible. Maybe we only come to appreciate the good things by the time they are gone.
Watching this reminded me what life was like before Covid-19, I'm a 2020 high school graduate, and to have my last summer while still in school without the burden of the quarantine was so nice.
This is so well done. You made something really special here. I think in some way we all can relate to the feeling you created. Very inspired by this and great song choice.
Charlie Jones film can be scanned! thats why its so high quality! places all over the world do it. most labs that develop also offer a scanning option :)
Finding a passion isn’t always easy and when you find it even then it’s hard to commit to it . Specially if it’s time consuming. But remember this . If you don’t use you’re time significantly, it will consume you .
i instantly recognized this as vancouver. i love my city. so many lovely things i've adored about the city and my country in this video. it's so incredible and this summer was amazing
Beautiful! I discovered this Video a few days ago and just bought a Super 8 camera today (no worries I have experience in filmmaking) and I cant wait for the first results! Thx 4 sharing man!
I love that you used Super 8! That was really all we had in the 70s but it has a wonderful quality. Keep shooting! Looking forward to the Summer ‘20 film!
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!! This entire video is one BIG MOOD!!!!! I've been editing a video for about a week now and was searching for Super 8 overlays and this popped up and this is EXACTLY what I wanted to create.... this is exactly the nostalgic mood and feeling I was going for. My video is also 3 minutes, it's also a montage of my summer (of 2004), and it's also shaky camcorder footage (from 2004) that transferred to my computer and it's also all set to one song with no original audio...but I have been frustrated because it just isn't coming together how i wanted. Anyway, thanks for "putting into words" exactly what I had in my mind's eye. So many feels - well done!!
Makes me wonder how people decades in the future who are my age will see this. Like, will they see things like this the way that a lot of people nowadays see '90s or even '00s stuff? Are they going to watch videos like this and wonder how we got by with our iPhones and Xboxes and whatnot? It's so weird to think that there will be things in the future that are going to define my generation when we're all old and shrivelled. Sorry for the rant, but this really gets you thinking.
the moment I heard wallows, memories just start to flood in... I discover them when covid first hit us and bro... im not even old but i felt old already
This is something i love about film. Super 8 Film was used the most in the 80s, when the format for digital was... well let's say not good. Film can be upscaled easily to 4k because its film. If resolution keeps upscaling with the times, film will easily be able to be transfered to that resolution.
'Upscaling' is a term used in video to convert lower resolution video footage to higher res. This is completely separate from film. Film can be transferred to any video format and resolution (HD, 4k etc.)
