9:25 wrong! You can call home with the duo app and answer the call by tapping on a Google home mini. It probably works on the other devices too but I don't own one. At 9:04 you see the button at the top right "Call home". This will call from the phone to the Google device(s) at home.

My favorite Feature is linking the Nest Doorbell to my hub and having it automatically display the front door when someone rings it or i ask it to show my front door. Also love that it will ring on my hub and all my minis at the same time so i dont miss the door.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ru-vid.comUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Google assistant takes a long time to answer and react. This needs some improvement. Last year Google said they are working on a new offline mode which was supposed to greatly reduce the latency. Thanks for sharing these video's!

GREAT VIDEO, Josh! You covered so much and so well! I am going to share this with family and friends! As a power user, I was excited about the recent integration of Assistant with Google Keep notes, but I found a disappointing shortcoming. It appears the team that handles Assistant from Bluetooth enabled headphones, or from Wear OS, has not yet tied into the latest & greatest API for Assistant, because if you ask Assistant to add something to a Google Keep note from either of those two things, it says "Okay, I've added that to your shopping list!" Quite frustrating! Hopefully they fix that soon, so the experience is not bifurcated across platforms...

I used to have an Alexa in the kitchen (gift) and, while I liked it, I knew Google was stronger in areas that Alexa wasn't (and vice versa). With both systems, I was mostly a light user - music, alarms, timers, etc. I recently made an audio only phone call with Alexa apparently that killed her - had tech support stumped for 3 days w no resolution - so I replaced her with a Google Nest Hub Max. Holy crap. Loved it so much I finally started building my smart home. My 1st gen Google assistant now has a home in my family room and I put a Hub in the master bath (I love to listen to the news followed by my fav music station when I'm getting ready in the morning - I connected the kitchen, fam room, and bathroom speakers for whole home sound; great for jamming to music on cleaning days). Got smart bulbs and plugs, and 2 chromecasts with Google TV. Movie night routine turns on the family room TV and turns the lamps to a dimmed dark blue. I. Am. In. Love. Heading out shortly to get the smart deadbolt lock and doorbell for the front door and considering the router.

What do you mean by An audio call that kill Alexa? Did the device stopped working while making the call? If so, that’s appalling because the Echo devices aren’t any cheap, just to end up getting faulty, it should be completely errors free. Well… I’ve got a question for you: Which Amazon Echo did you have? Some Echo devices, the cheapest ones like the Echo Dot 3 or the Echo Show 5 are very glitchy, I had the Echo dot 3 before buying the Echo 4th gen and the Sonos Roam right after. The Dot 3, whenever it worked fine was super amazing, but when it didn’t, was a complete piece of crap, Wifi connection was dropping regularly, Alexa having a red light ring with… I’m having trouble understanding right now, or Alexa simply stopped responding, very infuriated with that paperweight, I moved on, purchased an Echo 4th gen because Amazon refused to respect the warranty and give me a replacement, I absolutely loved my Echo 4th gen, it always worked fine for me, until I got the Sonos Roam, everything is glitchy again and I can’t wait too much time to return it and replace it with an other Amazon Echo like the one I had before the Roam, the Echo 4th gen. Please reframe from buying cheap Amazon Echos, they get faulty and can’t even work fine with a decent Internet connection

Hi, Josh wish you happy new year. And I have a few question for you, if you have answers for this. Please tell me, if it possible that in routines set when turn on Led Rgb lights, that light show desired colour and how do this? I thought what the command should be? Also me interesting how to set routine, that starting some video from youtube ex. of fireplace, tnx. And last, how setup that when the music is turned on from routine, that music will start playing in shufle mode. Thank you

1) if you're using Philips hue bulbs you can set a colour loop routine in the hue app and then set a routine in the Google Home app to start the loop when you say your choice of command. I have some Teckin bulbs but they don't seem to support colour loop, and other brands like Lifx and Sengled have limited customizability. 2) for a fireplace to play, you can simply say "play a fireplace burning" or any variant of that 3) in the custom phrase box on the routine creation screen, you can try phrases like "shuffle my (name) playlist" or "shuffle (artist)", "shuffle (album) by (artist)"

Thank you and the way it works right now is the device you set the timer on is the one that will ring. There's no way to currently switch timers from one device to another and you can only turn off the timer with the device the timer is ringing on.

I'd sincerely like to know what the initial (izing) process of having users record their personal vocal and speaking patterns is really for if anyone on any device, legitimately or otherwise, can speak one of the two, two-word phrases into ANY smart device and create an interface. It creates a personalized voice profile for you, allowing you to customize the assistant's responses. For example, if I ask my Google mini about my upcoming appointments, it will recognize my voice and read my calendar to me. But if a family member or friend asks the same question, it will not provide them with my schedule. I have it set this way for privacy purposes. You can also do things like prevent your children from searching for explicit music or accessing your contacts.

Tasker + autocast, or IFTTT when connected to WiFi + autocast or similar. Honestly they don't make it easy though. The caveat is that the assistant doesn't have an exposed endpoint API; it's meant to direct things, not receive direction. As a result they only make it easy to have it do things in response to ... Basically itself.

I would like to ask one more question :) If someone can help me thanks a lot:) Is there an option to set up kind of a default volume for google assistance on my google nest mini? For example, I asked to play music on my google nest mini and music playback, then I set the volume of the speaker on 15% (up to this point no problem), but now I need to ask something my speaker "what is the weather?" and what happens now is - speaker stops playing music and answers me a question, but it answers me with the same volume as I set 15% (it is very hard to hear something). So, the question is - is there a way to have a default speaker volume in case if I ask smth it will answer me for example with 50% of the volume that I can hear everything? Thanks in advance!

Thanks Josh, these are all very good tips. Do you happen to know a way to get your Google devices to ring when your cell phone is ringing? not necessarily to be able to answer from the device but just to know if you are getting a call coming in and your actual phone maybe out of hearing range.

Thank you and unfortunately, no, there's no native support for that feature, but you might be able to do something with IFTT that could be a workaround.

The two problems I have with my Google Assistant is: 1) It doesn’t support Apple Music (why?); and 2) Because I have a Sony Android OS TV, the Assistant tries to play a movie on (say) Netflix, but ends up saying it cannot on Android TVs. Any news on if either of these will be fixed?

I have noticed if you set a timer with a name it starts playing noise when it ends. I set a chicken timer recently and my Nest Hub started making chicken noises when it finished. My kids loved it.

Hi Josh, great video. When I was using my Google home mini I was able to create alarms to wake me up to a particular radio station. I've just bought myself a nest hub and it won't do that. I even tried creating a routine but the 'save' button was greyed out. Any ideas?

Make sure both languages in your device are English UK or US. It only works from Locked screen with those languages yet

@@MartinHindenes Hi Martin, thanks for replying. I don't understand what you mean. I'm simply telling the nest hub to set an alarm from the main screen to wake me up to a specific radio station. It says "I can't do that right now so I've gone ahead and created a standard alarm". Not what I asked. All devices including my Android phone are set to UK English.

Hi @@emailnewmanand to all of you having the same problem as me. Josh, it might be something to add in your next vid. I have found a workaround. If you go to the Google home app, then tap on your profile picture. Select assistant settings. Then select assistant, then languages, select English then United States, go back, then select assistant voice. Then choose the voice you like. It doesn't work for every country, sorry. As I'm in the UK I chose a British voice. Hope that helps.

Ok so you can say play something on Netflix on TV but what are the prerequisites for that to work? For example if you don't have an android TV and prefer to watch Netflix via the app on your AppleTV. Can it command AppleTV to perform actions?

I believe so. If it is a chromecast you will most likely 'add it to that room' on google home that way if u say the command on an assistant in that room then it will stream to it. Easiest to just called it 'tv' or whatever tho

Actually my chrome cast isn't named TV, and somehow whenever I ask it to turn on TV it will turn on the TV that the chrome cast is connected to.

Much like with the lyrics thing, it'll use 'best guess'. So if you have no smart TVs and one Chromecast, best guess means it'll just go to the Chromecast.

How did you manage to get Apple Music as an option in google assistant? Can’t find it anywhere and given up hope.

It's still not supported. RU-vid Music and Spotify are the two mainstream services available. Now the only exception is if you're using the Google Assistant on an iPhone, you can ask the Google Assistant to play media on Apple Music. But note it will not show up as a service option in the Assistant settings on the iPhone.

What i don't understand is that Google Keep does not have an option for a shopping list. Why does it have to be in a different app/website? Sometimes I really don't understand Google's fragmentation ... . Or am I missing something?

Love mine; what I’d like though is for one of my google home mini to use the male voice and the other the female voice. Any thoughts as to whether this can be done?
