Google Earth research led me to the Rugged, Spectacular Utah Dark Angel Canyon

This Challenging Desert Adventure Hike and Scramble into the Unvisited Depths on the north side of Arches National Park got a little Scary after my Google Earth Research Failed to Reveal several Impassible sections of Dark Angel Canyon. Dark Angel is a name I came up with since I found zero information about the area. . . Scrambling the Virgin Terrain was difficult and Ultimately I got injured when a brittle Sandstone boulder collapsed under foot. I'm not sure how I managed to get out of there as well as I did because for the week after my knee has been killing me. I think I got a minor MCL tear from the fall. It finally seems to be healing up now! Arches may seem like an amusement park while traveling on the heavily used roads and trails but the Back Country there can be extremely rough, remote, unforgiving and difficult to navigate.

Hello Karl from the 'north side of Denver' area, wonderful/beautiful little video. I first touched that area back in the '70s, visiting the impossible Landscape Arch, and hiking (on trail) back thataway with a girlfriend in the '80s. The focus of this video covers one of a thousand areas I've wondered about and you gave me a good taste of it. I no longer get out but YT and google earth take me places I've never dreamed of. I always think of the native peoples of the SW who wandered that vast, wild, desolate region, they probably scampered through those formations like chipmunks and perhaps barefoot at that... On a side note, back in the '70s, I ate at the restaurant now known as the Sunset Grill in Moab. I became aware of its history but never studied it in detail. Last night I stumbled onto the subject of Charlie Steen and his incredible $100+M uranium find which put Moab on the map and him in the history books. He had spent some time living in Cisco in a tar paper shack while 'working' the Yellow Cat area between this videos location and Cisco, but his great strike (the Mi Vida mine) was to the SE of Moab. After a bit of research and searching, I located it on GE off of Steen Road (114) 6.3 miles eastward from 191. It is an amazing story, especially the account by his son Mark (My Old Man: The Uranium King), and the site is very obscure considering its historic value...You may find it VERY interesting...Cheers

Wow, thanks Mark. I will definitely check it out! Cool to hear you were an original explorer out there. I first visited in '87 and even then Moab was just a tiny store, gas station and carwash. . . 3 buildings total from what I remember. Cheers!

Thank you, it was rough and amazing. It would be incredible if the Park service had the resources to chart out a friendly way through there so more could enjoy it.

You did it!!!! So glad you did not get seriously hurt out there. Amazing to see this area, thank you so much for sharing this adventure! Looks a lot tougher than I anticipated. Your Tower Arch "off-trail" adventure however looked like it had greater potential for my future exploration. Solitude like that in Arches is awesome.

I did and I do have you to thank, it was awesome. . .and rough but, I knew what I was getting into. Just had some bad luck. Tower really is a perfect blend of adventure with manageable obsticles. The 4x4 roads have been recently graded by the park service as well, tons of fill dirt over the rocky sections so, the getting is good for this spring at least! Cheers

Awesome video in some fantastic terrain. I hope your knee is ok after surviving the broken rock fall. You were lucky not to get stuck down that hole. I had a similar experience In Eygpt 3 in Escalante when a rock broke on me. Not fun! We have done the primitive trail and it was interesting to see it from your prospective. Thank you for sharing.😀👍

Thanks Lynn, I was freaked out sitting by that hole and thinking about what might have happened. . .it was deep. As you know, enough miles under your belt and something is bound to happen. It's how you react after that matters most. I was sure glad to be in my bed that night but I was sore for 2 weeks. Maybe a few tamer trips next, LOL.
