2:30 just hold either Shift or CTRL and drag your mouse around, you can look at the 3d photogrammetry from any angle. To get to streetview you can also just scroll in as far as it gets and it will put you down where your mouse is, no need to drag the little man each time.
You should do a livestream looking around google maps finding random and strange things and see how long you could keep at it. I bet you could create a world record for the longest commented search of google maps.
Unfortunately the coverage is not really that great in a lot of countries. Like, it seems to have Europe the Uk and the US really well covered but over here in Australia only the biggest cities are covered.
There's no China, no South Asia, no South East Asia, no Middle East, no Africa, no Russia, very few of Latin America and only like half of Europe. It's obviously greag anyways, but in the end, you only have like 10% of the worls covered
Asia mostly : Hong Kong , Macau , Major Cities of Taiwan & Major Cities of Prefectures in Japan . On Southeast Asia it's Singapore & Major Cities of Malaysia and Philippines. Im very disappointed and frustrated why Cities like Bangkok , Khorat , Chiang Mai , Phuket , Hat Yai and Pattaya have no 3d view despite small risks and low censorship in the Internet . Same with Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh , Da Nang , Da Lat , Can Tho , Hai Phong and Hoi An in Vietnam. Same with Indonesia as this cities Jakarta , Bekasi , Tangerang , Tangerang Selatan , Serang , Cilegon , Bandung , Cirebon , Semarang , Tegal ,Yogyakarta,Probolinggo,Surabaya Surakarta,Kudus,Purwokerto,Magelang,Mojokerto,Madiun,Blitar,Kediri,Denpasar,Kota Teluk Ambon , Ternate,Parepare,Makassar,Kendari, Bontang,Samarinda,Tenggarong,Tarakan,Nunukan,Palangkaraya,Banjarmasin,Banjarbaru,Batam,Tanjung Pinang,Pangkal Pinang,Bandar Lampung,Metro, Jayapura,Sorong,Manado,Bitung,Palu,Tomohon,Medan,Sibolga,Binjai,Padang,Bukit Tinggi,Banda Aceh,Kota Riau,Kota Jambi,Sungai Penuh,Palembang,Dumai and many more . Indonesia had a great potential for 3d View same with Thailand and Vietnam. Not gonna lie but it would definitely look amazing ! I hope Indonesia and Thailand can get proper 3d view for their Major Cities .
Also, you can zoom into and back out of street view without clicking any buttons; just keep zooming into a street, or out of the streetview. You’re close to doing the zooming into it part numerous times in this video alone, not sure if you’re just loving the yellow man so much that you wouldn’t to the zooming approach, but I just wanted to make sure you 100% are aware of this feature.
Google maps has been a bless and a curse, I use it a lot before I go out geocaching, it helps looking at possible hiding spaces. 3D view is amazing for this. On the other hand, I like finding new places to visit, mainly cafes, but I get overwhelmed by the multiple choices available and end up staying at home drinking my own coffee.
Before I go somewhere new I will usually look it up on Google maps. So when I get somewhere new I think to myself - this looks familiar. But then I think - have I only seen this place on Google?!
One thing that’s even better than 3D view is ground-level view. It’s basically the same as Street View, but uses the 3D imagery rather than the cars, so continues working even when you’re in an area the cars have not (yet) reached.
2:32 keep in mind some random places might be slightly outdated. I once went on Google Maps to a town near me with this view and there was still a plain field, even though there's now since about a year or two a Migros.
Weirdly enough, Google Earth has much more up to date satellite imagery then Google Maps. If you go on the historical images button on GE you can see that they could only be a few months old whereas GM could be like a year out of date. But when you do this on GE it does make a collage of all the images and they can look odd. GM blends them in better

You can hold control and use your left click to rotate around freely while in 3D mode rather than rotating by clicking the compass, if you didn't know :)
The only one of these I knew was measuring distance because we had to do it in school once. I think it was when we were designing a subdivision and we had to get an accurate measurement of the area we were designing it for. I didn’t even know there was a globe view on Google maps. I mostly use google maps on mobile and I don’t think a lot of these features are available on mobile or they’re very well hidden.

Fun fact: for the distances one, if you make another distance after your first distance, then connect that 2nd distance to where it says "0" on the distances, you could actually make a polygon! Works with any polygon, no matter what (like a square, hexagon, nonagon, etc.)!
Google maps (and other map/satellite services) is one of the most underrated things there is. I feel like people take it for granted we can zoom in to a metre to ANYWHERE in the world.
The thing about flat roof pubs is 100% legit. Personally, I think if you're wanting a 3D view, you're probably better off using the browser version of google earth (or the app if you want, I'm not your dad) as you can adjust the viewing angle, and you can measure paths rather than just straight lines.
It's really only single storey flat roof pubs though, built on council estates. It's funny how the pubs were often the only remaining original building after rebuilding an area post war, and Toycat showed one of these. So things must have been bad if they had to put up a new building - usually a prefab.

I wish I'd known about this when I was trying to find a place I'd visited in San Tropez. I couldn't identify it from looking straight down, but it could be that the entire place had changed. Mostly, I was wanting to find out what the place was intended to be, and what kind of trees they had there...the trees were an entirely unfamiliar type. Also, my visit there was almost thirty-five years ago. Thanks for sharing the info. I'll be sure to waste a few hours playing with it.

in 3d view you can hold ctrl and drag around to adjust the 3d view angle. the way you turn your camera by clicking makes me think you don't know that yet.
When I’m procrastinating I’ll generally hop on google earth, I feel like its just a nicer platform to use and it does a great job at displaying mountains in 3D, google maps is the best platform for driving directions though.
15:34 that building in the centre looks way newer than the other omes, which immediately makes me wonder how on earth they managed to build it. Like, did they drop it in there? Was the whole thing constructed by hand and supplies airdropped by helicopters or something? How??!!!
Do you know you can hold ctrl and click to tilt and orientate the camera any way you want in 3D? I haven't used the compass button to orientate in years, I figured it out when id zoom out from street view and be orientated in the direction the camera was last facing, and i wanted to be able to replicate that. Noticed you didn't seem to use that feature and it pains me watching you click the compass haha.
the only reason why that magic roundabout is there in colchester is because it is in greenstead (the rough side of colchester) come visit stanway, lexden and birch were the zoo is and it is much more nicer to look at on google maps
I like Google Maps actually. It lets me see snapshots of older pictures. It took a picture of my father when he was still alive so when I want to "see" my father, I just check Google Maps and look at older pics of our house.
my problem 3D-map view is when it is not there. Looking at Washington monument on 3D-map view is the most depressing thing ever. The other thing I find disappointing is when the there is a big iconic sign, but it is a jumbled up mess in 3D-view.
One thing I learned from this is that London has really bad building planers I get it’s old but still I shouldn’t have to walk through multiple other buildings to get to the building I need to go to
are there really that many rails zipping around london? I mean I guess it does make sense because car cities have roads take up a giant portion of the city but that's still shocking
9:15 Why not have lights before entering the "motor way," or do "motor ways" there already have that included? On a side note, it would be great to see an in depth video on the various ways the world manages traffic. It could also be a entire series with each episode covering 1 to 3 countries.
