After my experience with foldable phones I realized it's the same as back when LCD monitors had terrible side viewing angles. It slowly got better and better until where the tech is now. That's exactly how I see the crease in foldables. It's there, you can see it no matter which brand you go with. So I'm just waiting until that crease isn't noticeable anymore. I'm absolutely confident they will figure out a way to make the crease go away because otherwise the entire concept fails. It's the most obvious design flaw. I don't know how engineers will do it....but they will.
I've heard you comment on all the earlier _rumored_ folding Pixel phones for years and I'm so glad for you to finally have it. Looking forward to more content.
Technically if you upgrade every year or two.. and take care of your phone. Cut that price in half, plus any preorder deals that come with it. So I'd say more like 7-800
Did we watch the same review? Did you even watch it? He likes the phone a lot, he just notes it's bad battery life, first gen quirks, and pricetag. Those things will be in this channel's review as well.
Did you watch a different MKBHD video to me? He said he was daily driving the device in lieu of his 7 Pro and I got the impression he rather liked it. It's a reviewer's job (if they're not a paid shill) to point out the flaws and quirks of a device as much as the positives.
$1799? Still a no from me; I’ll wait til it’s half the price in about half a year and I’ll have to see how good the battery is. Tensor’s battery efficiency sucks
I know you're a Google fan boy but I disagree with a few of your mentionings...if I'm buying a folding phone, I'm buying one to utilize the screen open as much as possible and to multitask, whether it be emails, documents, what have you. You said you don't like Samsungs skinny display - fair enough. A lot of people agree with you there. But that is why it's called a COVER display. To read and respond to a quick text (use Gboard Swipe-to-text), scroll through social media, etc. You also said Samsungs software isn't great - that's also your own opinion, but seeing how Google hasn't optimized apps with their 3rd party for the large screen is a bit embarrassing, especially for the price you're paying...And I would argue that Samsung does way more with their foldable software than Google which is what gives them the leg up. Also, it is disappointing that a lot of people will settle for the year old Tensor G2. For the price, the G3 should've shipped with it. Once Fold 5 launches with Snapdragon for Galaxy, it's going to blow Pixel Fold battery out of the park.
I don't hate google or their pixel phones cause I've actually had 3 in the last 6 years but I must say a trend I notice with (ALL) their phones is they don't age well. They get a ton of bugs and they slow down and heat up considerably unfortunately. I want them to do better in terms of performance and stability.
i think you're confusing Pixel with iPhone? i mean it's literally the opposite: Pixels start off buggy as hell and then eventually get better and better
@@Jack-dk6kq I hear you but that hasn't been my experience at all!!! I had the Pixel 2,4 and 6 pro and all started not bad and got way worse over time. I was hoping the pixel 6 pro with turn the corner for me but that wasn't the case.
@@eddiesequeira4839 Although been aware of issues since the 4 series, hoping the Fold will be my first Pixel. Will wait end-of-year, as long-term reviews weigh in.
@@Jack-dk6kqno way you said iPhones dont age well and overheat. Clearly you've never used an iPhone personally long term. Like that was a WILD statement. And I'm using a Samsung but even I know saying this kinda BS about iPhones is fucking gold lol
As an aside, I will never understand the notion that having glass on the back of the phone as "premium". Wow, another large surface area to break or crack!
Google has definitely had the best offer - $950 for my iPhone trade in plus free $400 Pixel watch. There are deals to be had for sure. AT&T doing $25/month (50% off) but trade ins suck and Verizon doing $900 off with trade in.
Your enthusiasm was infectious! So, YES, more please 🙂 BUT, it's a Version 1, with that, and the price, it's for you guys to test (mercilessly) so we can see what needs you have for Version 2! I hate Google with a passion & don't use Chrome, but Android runs in my veins, so mighty keen to follow your experiences. Haven't moved to Folding yet, but Motorola beckons cos I'm so old I had both the original Razrs 😉
Nice to see your excitement. Let's see where you are in six months to a year. Not a device for me. I prefer a phone and a tablet as separate things. And my phone is already too bulky as it is. Plus, the aspect ratio looks unusable for most content. And the crease is very visible in the video.
If the Samsung z fold had a wider outside screen it would be perfect... I had it for a week and returned it, I couldn't deal with how narrow that screen was it was brutal... I can't wait to get my pixel I'm excited. I don't understand why Samsung doesn't listen to everyone's complaints about that outside screen nobody likes it people tolerate it, it's such an odd design. However I do personally like Samsung's software I enjoy it looking forward to the pixel though
@@mackmccord3743 And yet the box is much bigger than the ones for other Pixel devices, for no apparent reason... it's not as though it has more stuff in it - if anything, the box could be smaller than the other devices because the fold is shorter.
@@Azurael true. There was a lot of extra cardboard in the box. But pretty sure that was to protect the heavy device. Plus it's their first attempt at foldables
#Question One question i cannot find an answer for anywhere else is.... can you use the camera on the outside but have both inside and outside screens show the view? I liked this feature (camera preview) on the fold4. From all the videos i have seen on the pixel fold, it looks like you can only use one screen at a time while taking a photo.
The first thing you said was how much you can do with the phone closed great keyboard size and such. I thought the point of a folding phone was to open it up, if not then what’s the point.
3:36 What are you talking about? Samsung software is the best, and the zfold is the most complete and perfect foldable. The perk is the outer display taking away from the true 2 in 1 form factor. Samsung has the best software that is feature rich and makes their fold complete they have the best multitasking software and the only foldable with stylus support. I don't understand why Google just won't add stylus support to any of their devices like not even their tablet and in 2023 it's given every tablet has stylus support.
I’m in love with this phone but this price is ridiculous. First gen phone at almost 2k? Even if I have the money to buy it I can’t justify paying that much for a phone that will probably deteriorate in a year
Why is it that NONE of these hyped up hyping influencers mention anything about audio quality - how do movies sound - how does music sound - how do phone calls sound ??? Does it get loud enough ? How is the clarity ?
OneUI is much better than this. You cant customize the outer screen separate from the inner with Google. The Fold4 is actually quite a bit lighter than the Pixel Fold.
@@albertbolanos8794 that was 4 years ago which is 40 years in tech. It's actually a bad comparison when you take into account how long Google has had to learn from other's mistakes. Every Chinese foldable is better than this, mi mix fold 2, vivo x fold (even their first) and especially oppo find n 2 whose first iteration was already miles ahead of this. The high price is the worst part.. 1800 for a poor proof of concept? They dropped the ball hard.
$1800 for a low volume, early adopter product which is complex and expensive to manufacture. The SoC has nothing to do with it. And Tensor (either G1 or G2) really isn't at all that bad. Have you actually used Pixel 6/7 family phone? Or are you just dogpiling? My 7 Pro (and the 6 I had before it) performs just fine, probably more fluid in real world use than most devices with SoCs that benchmark better and the battery life is fine. Certainly markedly better than my Oppo Find X3 Pro was even when new. And it gets warm sometimes? So what? So has every smartphone I've ever owned going back to my Sony Ericsson P800 in 2002. Show me one that doesn't. Even iPhones get warm in regular use and their SoCs are immensely more efficient than almost everything in the Android space. And honestly, what's the alternative for those early adopters who want such a device and are willing to put down that kind of money? A Samsung which folds up with a huge, ugly gap, comes with more preinstalled bloatware than a mid-2000s laptop and has a debatably much less useful outer screen? An Oppo/OnePlus with questionable modifications to Android, weird performance inconsistencies (at least if my X3 Pro is anything to go by, and I'm sure you'll remind me that even its old Snapdragon 888 performs about the same as a Tensor G2 if benchmarks are all you care about) not to mention the inevitably rubbish camera software even if the hardware is good? A Huawei with no Play Store/GMS?
@@Azurael you saying "so what" to it getting hot dismisses so many fourm post explaining that it overheats with simple use. Tensor has been pretty much documented at this point and it's not really that good right now
It's nice to see how excited you are for this... It's contagious! I hope that this will push the industry forward in a good way. People either want this (Normal phone with tablet inside) or something like the Motorola Razr+ (small phone with normal phone inside). I'm finally starting to get excited about foldable phone/devices.
its a amazing phone cause its by google but its not better then the galaxy fold if people think just cause the front screen is bigger then thats why its better then thats funny
I do not have mine yet, but I am as excited as you are for it to arrive. I have the Z Fold 3 now, but not a fan of the long skinny closed phone. It is poorly balance. My favorite was the MS Surface Duo from several years ago. What a great device, but it died on me and I got the Z Fold 3. The Surface Duo form factor was amazing, even if some did not like the phone. I loved it. The Google Fold is the best of both worlds with the form factor similar to the Duo and now google invested in this form and software for the foldable. This phone will move the needle even more. I cannot wait. How is the Google Case in practice? I need to order a case soon. Thank for this unboxing video. Your excitement is contagious.
The exterior is great! But when you open it, makes you sad, dont even want to open that thing, looks ugly, those bezels, feels like a device from 2010. I have a Oppo Find N2, much better than this thing.
Just love it ❤, I hope T-mobile will has available soon on his store online. Thank you for your first impressions and share it with us, I will be excited when finally get it.😎🤓
