My last is the hero 4 silver so buying the 12 will actually be an upgrade. Feel bad for those buying this coming from a 9,10,11 as changes are minimal at best
Your action cameras are terrible. Loads of people have complained about overheating sd card errors and so on. The issues have gone across many generations and you've seemingly done nothing about it.
Well. I am returning mine for a refund after having pre-ordered it. It does have some nice features which are not mentioned like live view during recording, using the Quik app and remote at the same time, 8:7 form factor, nice menu. Apart from that, not much more than Hero 10 black. I realize now that the no GPS is a big minus for me since I use it mostly when travelling to remote places. Even if I don't regularly apply those GPS stickers in Quik app, I still need the EXIF GPS data for uploading to other cloud services. Also, the run times at normally used resolutions are not much improved, but actually the opposite. My Hero 10 black has more juice left than the hero 12 black after running with gps on at 5.3k60fps compared to hero 12 black at 4k60fps with Max Lens Mod 2.0. I never use 5.3k30 fps nor 4k120fps for the advertised run time 2x improvement. If the hero 12 is your only camera, then lack of GPS in 2023 is a big no. My last gopro with no gps was Hero 4 black, which also has live view during recording and the battery backpack which lasts 2 hours. GoPro could have at least designed a BT GPS remote to add that info. I will wait for the Max 2.0 to see if it's better than Insta 360 x3.
hi! I am currently looking to buy a GoPro. Would you still recommend getting the Hero10? I would mainly want to use it for (hopefully high-quality) travel videos and to take it with me when surfing (was the 10 already waterproofed without an extra case?) Would appreciate a quick insight - obviously the 10 would cost me quite a bit less@@octny
also i have no issues with batteries i use it on my bike i have recorded well over 1 hours constant 2k 60fps and had it working 4k 60fps on gopro 11 it never overheated and stopped . simple get a bike bag that sits under the top bar and lower bar at the front. put a 20000mah power bank in the bag run a short usb cable up and use the door mod it has usb hole to insert cable. i also have no trouble with over heating. this comes down to how much the camera is doing when recording. you need to adjust things turn wifi off gps off lower the frame rate /fps etc if you do not do this the power bank will not work it cut off or just not work lol and you do not need a bike you have hand help tripods with power banks in them now . just need to set up right for it to work right
Waited for the 12 as there was an expectation the low light ability would be better but decided to buy the 11 and put the difference in price towards 2 extra batteries and charging base. I was upgrading from the 8 and saw the horizon levelling feature as being worth the upgrade anyway even if low light was little improved. I did read a review that did not expect the low light ability would be upgraded as it would mean a physically larger camera and I have read even the closest size micro 4/3 mirrorless cameras don't have a high low light rating anyway. So it could be a few years before there is a substantial improvement in low light ability from Gopro.
I just bought the Go Pro Hero 10 yesterday and i’m returning it today for the Hero 12, because only the Hero 11 & 12 have horizon leveling. As a runner using the chesty mount, it’s essential because my body naturally moves the camera physically and to stabilize that correctly, you’d need a gimbal. Something that actually moves the camera to keep it in place…or horizon leveling.
I still use my Hero9 Black in 4k 24fps Superview 16:9. It's still great 👍 I find you really have to mount the GoPro on the nose of the surf board to get the best shots.
The 11 does most of that you mentioned. The biggest upgrade I was excited about is the runtime. My GoPro 11 already can record up to 25min in 2.5k. So not much improvement there unless you didnt push it enough (like I guess you recorded in 5k?)
I've never had a GoPro. Going to be using it for motorcycles. The only things that are important to me is excellent quality, excellent vibration dampener, horizon stabilizer and the GPS. Which one should I get?
I have a hero 11 for my motorcycle page @nakedbikeduo I am thinking about getting the 12 so I can use the max lens 2.0. If you use a 11 with super view it gets a lot of fish eye. The 2.0 lens on the 12 looks like less fish eye on the wide shots
So... My daughter has thrown away my GoPro (bye bye camera), so I'm about to buy a new one. Last used 10. Price of 11 (just camera) is the same as 12 with add-ons. 10 is a 100€ cheper (just camera, no add-ons). What to choose? What do you suggest? Go back to 10 or buy 12? :)
With the GoPro 10 super discounted right now, would it be dumb to buy a 10 instead of 12? Or should I just go for the middle and get an 11? I have never owned a GoPro and would be upgrading from the DJI Pocket 1 and would use it for vlogging.
The 11 would definitely be the best choice, and if using it for vlogging, you might want to consider getting the Media Mod or the audio adapter so that you can use an external mic. You might still be able to get the HERO11 as the Creator Edition, which is how I have mine setup for vlogging.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thanks so much, Tamara! I was looking at the Creator Edition as it's still for sale and I think it's probably my best bet. I SUPER appreciate your feedback and you taking the time to answer my question.
I'm currently considering replacing my 8 black and im horrified to see that the 12 black just shuts down after 25 mins because of overheating?? I use my camera for recording gigs in hot rooms leaving it running for 4 hours off an external battery. I cant believe they still have stupid design faults. I love the video quality, i hate the same faults, every model.
for the comparison test with the hero 12 black run timewas the hero 12 on 8 bit or 10 bit, standard or high bit rate? i bet for 4k60 the hero 10 lasts longer in extended battery mode.
selling longer run times as an upgrade is a bit cheeky, really they are just fixing a fatal flaw that should't of been an issue in a production product anyway.
Questions: Why do people get those tiny camera when it only last 25 minutes before shut down, whereas you can invest on a phone (iphone pro 15) that last over 8 hrs of battery life? Im not sure if I need such device because ai am planning to go on a trip soon.
Thanks for the video mate ! I still cant decide if I shud buy an 11 or a 12 ?? Going Scuba diving this year and need a hige Wide angle and amazing colors ! I used to lo=ive in Bristol in the 80's, miss that place. Now in the USA. Need to try 'Wave' next time in the UK (in the summer).
@BooredAtWork what's the best FOV to use in order for me to get the widest FOV possible without the fisheye look at all? I know linear is an option but can I get any wider whilst maintaining the straight look, even if i had to edit my video using a program ?
my hero 12 just showed No Batt on screen even if it had inside an enduro battery with 48% power left which works fine in the hero 10 black. the 12 was also doing nothing, while I was working on the settings...it did not turn off though. firmware v 2.10.
Are the presets simply Custom 1, 2, 3 etc or can you name them. Hard to remember which if you have set a few up as I have with my Gopro 8. I'd love the horizon lock to aid my cycling stability but struggling to see the real improvements here.
just bought the creator edition so looking forward to getting started, even thinking about starting a youtube channel on hiking and photography and also football away days and blog which format do you use for editing? Ive got final cut pro x but getting my head around it slowly
Thank you for the video review I’m still going to debate a bit on the 11 or 12!! I would also love to know if HERO 12 is compatible with the 10 accessories? I lost my HERO 10 and have some batteries and charging base.. is it possible to use those if I buy the 12?
Thanks for the review and comparison to the 10. I have a 10 and the thermal issues are terrible with it. So having one with better battery life and the ability to record for longer is tempting. I don't know if the upgrade is worth the $400 for me. But I do like the new features of the additional mounting ability and the BT audio connectivity. Overall, I think I'm going to pass on this until it's available at a decent discount around August of next year (Based on GoPro history).
It will overheat and drain the battery if you record continuously for any long amount of time. That time limit shrinks if you also have it plugged in to keep it charged. It's really bad.
Nice overview, Tech Chap! Quick question: I have a Go Pro HERO10 Black with 2 batteries. Do you know whether the HERO 12 battery size is compatible with the 10/11? I have been searching online but haven't found a good resource to answer that question yet. Thanks, and greetings from Western Canada!
I would also love to know if HERO 12 is compatible with the 10 since I lost my HERO 10 and have some batteries and charging base.. is it possible to use those if I buy the 12?
@Thetechchap please I need your honest opinion do you think 12 will be great for video vlogs I really need a camera with great image resolution and what's the capacity
i did not get a camera pouch. I got the hero 12 black and the max lens mod 2.0 in the same order but not the bundle since there was an error on their website which showed a 50 euro more expensive price.
Hey tech chap I have a hero 10 and a the og max lens mod so if I upgrade will I still be able to use my original max lens mod 1 one the hero 12 if I upgrade or do I have to buy the 2.0
My gopro hero 8 is just sitting in a draw only used it a few times because it kept shutting down absolute junk, seeing this not much has changed the hero 10 15 mins until it shuts down and the 12 in 25 mins . The website says 60 minutes run time at 5.3k but really less than half that. How many iterations of a gopro do they need to make before they can run without shutting down in half the time of their claimed specs .
I have the 10 and it's doing the job. The 12 just isn't worth it for me right now. My wish is that they open the USB port to allow wireless mics without the media mount. The Bluetooth headphone option is a joke, to be honest. Also, battery charging takes way too long for Gopro's. I will wait until the next version of DJI and Gopro and make a decision then. Just not worth it to me at this time. What a let down from both manufacturers.
The only thing that I particularly like is that you can directly attach it to a tripod. Come on GoPro, how come it took you that long to figure that out. One thing I don't like about the 12 is that it looks like it was used while painting a room getting paint splashes all over it. Perhaps some artsy-fartsy person might go for it, but not me. I'll wait until they come out with some real and worthwhile upgrades. But until then, I'll stay with my 11.
hii! I am looking to buy a GoPro - would you say the 11 is still worth getting (after seeing the upgrades for the 12?) - I am not sure if I really need the newest one, I would mainly use it for travel videos and footage from being out surfing. (I also don't mind the paint splash pattern all that much haha) Would appreciate a quick insight, no idea which cam to go for
they overheat basically the same. I got the hero 10 and 12 black and the 10 lasts longer with gps on. I have not tried it off since I need it. the hero 12 is the first gopro I am returning for a refund.
i came from hero 7 black. i bought the 10 and i hate it so much. i hate the overheating and run time. i film a lot of cooking stuff so i cant always mess with the gopro since my hands are dirty.
Aloha~ yes i am re-learining setup list since it is new upgrade settings comapre to my gp9 and gp10blk..so far no problems...my biggest worry is the battery overheating...does anyone know if recording on normal sunny day on 4k60 how long does avg enduro bettery last? Mahalo!
it does still overheat if doing long clips. if filming indoors with no airflow, it's best to take the battery out and use the volta to power it. My Hero 10 black lasts longer with the same resolution 4k60fps than the hero 12 black. Maybe the 10bit drains it faster.
I do wish you quoted product prices in GBP as well as USD. I understand maybe a large number of your audience comes from the US, but you're the Tech Chap, you should be keeping things a bit British too!
I've had that freezing, crashing and deleting files on the initial firmware of the Hero 10 black, not on the 12. The 12 only gave me a slow sd card error a couple of times with a Sandisk Extreme Pro card!
surprised you you thought it was the physical thermals design that gave you a greater run time I think you may find that the removal of the GPS was the reason.
So you still have to jerry rig it to keep it from shutting down . I'm in the market for a camera that works out the box without shutting down like the gopro . Love to hear suggestions .
@wingandhog I don't own the 12 but my 7 always shut off overheating constantly so it's sat in a draw , I won't buy another one if the 11 cuts out from running 15 minutes inside and the gp12 runs 25 minutes inside where it wouldn't be too hot I don't see the point of owning 1. I live in Australia tried so many times with my gopro and it just heats up to fast stops recording keep changing out battery's just for it to do the same thing.
Great video. In my opinion all cameras manufacturers should keep same Desing since if they change it we as consumers gonna have to be spending more money buying new accessories and just accumulating a bunch of extra things.
well gopro made 9, 10...bigger than previous models - so they don`t care how much money you`ll spend od accessories you will need..DJI is different size, Insta is different...
Had 3 gopros and every single one of them randomly crashes. Different batteries. Different recommended sd cards. Not touching gopro ever again. Great video though - tempts me to buy but past experience stops me.
