Hey folks - thanks for watching! Here's the sound video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bP3kBhte5ZE.html - Also, check out the upper corner for my livestreaming video!
So true, all these upgrades but nothing on improving battery life or larger battery. Improved battery life was the one thing I was hoping for, and expecting, the cell phone companies do it, why not GoPro ??
Turn off EVERYTHING that you don't need like voice control, turn the screen brightness down to 50% or less. I can get a full day of mountain biking on two batteries. There are many things you can do to increase battery life. I do agree with you tho, I wish they'd increase battery life in general.
Awesome vid. No messing just straight to the point. Looking forward to using mine around some European cities next week starting with Venice. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
CycleCruza Agreed - It’s a real shame they didn’t innovate around the external audio option. I’d happily pay for a better motovlog setup which doesn’t require me to record external audio. Give us a Bluetooth mic GoPro!
This is a very nice comprehensive presentation and I appreciate all the work you did to evaluate the Hero 7. You Sold me on it, the vertical orientation was interesting and I've never used that in production but it's nice to have that option. SuperPhotoMode... innnteressting. Audio improvements? Yes please! Can you do a RU-vid LIVE session with it? Oh, only at 720p, got it.
Hi Rainmaker, Loved your GOPRO 7 review and I also bought one. Butt then the trouble began with the battery drain witch is a real problem. There is a “standard” work around from GOPRO but this is not the solution. On the GOPRO forum this is a ral issue and the forum is exploding with complains on the lack of support from GOPRO. The issue with te battery drain is totally ignored by GOPRO and they leave te GOPRO community empty handed. Perhaps you can test this issue and do a blog of the problem for all those GOPRO fans who have bought this expensive camera. We hope at the end that GOPRO will solve this problem and I hope you will support the GOPRO community with an honest and impartial opinion. community.gopro.com/t5/Cameras/Hero-7-battery-drain/m-p/243008#/M70004 Many thanks. Johannes
You can already change the lenses. Go to PeauProductions website and get the 19mm and 47mm (35mm equivalent) m12 lenses. 4K with no distortion for years now, and the 47mm (8.25mm) is about a 45mm in 4K 4:3 mode with is actually 12 megapixel video (4000x3000 confirmed with MediaInfo) and uses the entire sensor (44% more pixels than UHD 4K), it looks great on the Karma drone. Search "Karma 3X zoom" on RU-vid to get an example. That setup is actually the cheapest option to get higher focal lengths close to 50mm in 4K in a drone, the next option would be the Mavic 2 Zoom, then the Mavic 2 Pro with its 4K "HQ" mode which is a 1.4x zoom (39.2mm equivalent) 1:1 sensor readout, next up would be the Inspire 1 with Zenmuse Z3 zoom camera which I used to have and at the time it was the cheapest option for some sort of optical zoom to 50mm at 4K. The Karma drone with PeauPro lenses made the 50mm look in 4K on a drone (by cropping in about 6% or so in post) much more affordable. Only a drone noob who isn't cinematography minded would think the Karma drone is useless and wouldn't know about the value the PeauPro lenses add to it. I own the Karma drone, the Inspire 2, the Mavic 2s, and Parrot ANAFI, so I'm not a fanboy of any particular drone company, I see the value in each drone. Karma shoots 12 megapixel video at 30fps, no other drone can do that in the sub $5,000 price range. It also has smoother and less restrictive orbits, and paired with the PeauPro lenses and ND filters from PeauPro, it is actually suitable for more serious shoots. The 4:3 mode in 4K (since Hero 6) like I said uses the ENTIRE sensor at 30fps. Though that recording mode doesn't offer EIS (which would be impossible unless there was a built in physical sensor shift), anyone who does actual post processing realizes how awesome that 4K 4:3 mode is especially when using a gimbal and only caring about 30fps. You can simply crop in to your preferred aspect ratio but then you have a lot more of the frame available for animating your crops. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CEKsKWzMbfI.html In that video, for all non aerial shots, I used 4 Hero 6 Blacks. 2 are stock lenses. And the other two I simply screwed in and focused the PeauPro 19mm and 47mm equivalent.
DJ Many im using karma too,the gopro video quality is no match for dji cameras, yes the distance is limited and battery sucks, but the smoothness and video compans all these cons
Your graphic content looked so familiar. Then I seen your website in the video and got so hyped. I used to read your articles all the time several years back when I cycled nonstop to college and trained. Great content and glad to see you’re still providing quality info. Definitely subscribed
Of all the time I have spent on RU-vid.. Honestly This is by far the best review .. Bang on target no bullshit.. I have been glued to your review till the end.. Well Done!! and Thanks a lot !! Liked and subscribed for all future content..
Hey, I have a question for anyone willing to help! I am trying to use this to steam live to youtube as I want to stream some of the process of me making my art. Can anyone explain the steps to doing this? I have an apple phone and MacBook. I would be very grateful!
Future Gopro's will have infrared, nightvision, crazy-zoom and will be able to throw it in the sky and Film/Photograph your full wedding and quinceañera and edit your footage at your own taste. This will happen soon...
Don't see any better clarity here than with cheaper brands. I guess if I'm going to read license plates I'll need to just hang my Android in the windshield.
Ricky J shut up dumb dumb. He forgot to put it in prob until I wrote this comment Edit: The video wasn't even uploaded yesterday. learn to use the computer. Seriously.
Correct, it wasn't there yesterday. I got delayed on some flights across the pond, and thus couldn't get it uploaded when I thought I'd be able to at the connection airport. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bP3kBhte5ZE.html
Hey, I'd like to record mainly walks in forest or city. Or maybe biking. Is hero 8 an overkill? Is hero 7 enough on a chest strap? Or should I get gimbal? I've tested hero5 few days ago - recorded from tram, a walk and from bus in Poznan, Poland (video on my chanel if you're interested) and the result is good, but I think it could be much better. I'm thinking 7 will be enough but maybe 8? What do you think? Thanks in advance for the answer. Cheers from Poland!
Hey Urban Walk! I think the Hero 7 black would be perfect for what you're looking to do. The stabilization from hyper smooth is more than enough for something like that. It basically replaces a gimbal. The 8 looks like a slightly upgraded version of the 7 to be honest. For vlogging and day to day stuff I shoot in 2.7k Linear to remove the fish eye effect. Cheers back from Florida!
Good information. I hate when my camera prefers focusing on things other than me. Looks like yours prefers the tree behind you unfortunately...well we've all been there, glad you uploaded this anyway.
Same thing man. The 5 and 6 just seemed to boring and bland to update my hero 4. I thought gopro was turning into apple by releasing the same junk constantly but this one has really hit me. Definitely going to pick it up.
I never had ANY luck with my 4... I have a lemon that freezes up after 10 seconds of shooting 1080. Just saw that GoPro will give me $100 for it toward the 7 BLACK (pre-1/9/19 they would apply it to a Hero 7 silver... pass on that, thank you)... ordered the 7 black & have this p.o.s. 4 ready to send Mr. Woodman. Even remembered to take the micro sd out. By the way, the card was NOT the problem. 'Early adopter burn' was the culprit... Now a gimbal for my Sony A6000 and I'll be rockin'!!! Living 1/4 mile from Newark Liberty airport means my drone will have to be a dozen helium balloons :-).
Hi BiggCoffee Outdoors Magazine here- New to your channel, love the review. About to start filming with the 7 after upgrading from a 5. You’ve definitely gave me something to look foreword too after this review. You know what...... I think I’ll go ahead and Subscribe, something tells me the reviews don’t stop here. 👊🏾👊🏾 (BiggCoffee Outdoors Magazine) RU-vid and Instagram
As always, DCR does the best review. GoPro is really good at marketing a old piece of hardware with new software features and call it a new GoPro 7. They should just retro-release these features to older GoPros. They must think all consumers are dummmiessss
They seem to be bumping up the frame rate and resolution with each edition. I think that's the most important thing. But what frustrates me about these review is that no one ever mentions if 4K is limited to that annoying wide view where your depth perception is shot.
Fair point. What I should have said is that you get more fps for the same resolution, which makes a world of difference for fast paced shots. Do you think they would be able to get 4k resolution at 60 fps with HDR color depth if the put more money into development? The camera on my new Galaxy Note 9 phone, which just came out in August, nukes the Gopro out of the water (I paid $1,000 for it)
I have no idea what the HDR color depth even means in video, it seems to be a marketing gimmick. Its really mixed, like currently we finally have 10bit video. But its sold as HDR, and that makes no sense at all. 8bit = 256 colors per channel 10 bit = 1024 colors per channel 10 bit video is the single biggest actual improvement we have had in a long time, but you can only see it if you monitor/tv has 10bit panel. HDR on the other hand is a way to edit your photographs, its more of a gimmick. So if that's the type of HDR you are speaking off, then its just more about the CPU power the camera has to basically edit you video in fly. There cameras all use CCTV parts, the sensors are basic CCTV camera sensors that are readily available. The processors are also from CCTV markets, and so are the lenses.
Thank you for this review. It did what I needed, which was provide enough info for me to make a decision. Ive never had a go pro, so here I am. I was considering the 8 Black because after all, the latest model is always best, right? But your revelation of the lens cover not being replaceable on the 8 took that model right off the table. Looks like the 7 Black is the way to go.
Hi i am girl Pakistan, i like your videos, you look very gentle in your voice. you are the only youtuber i subscribed. but why do you make videos like you are standing infront of cemetery :) :) . i recently bought gopro, i always wish if they can add a wireless charging in the gopro. i hope to meet you one day. tata
Great vid! 3 quick questions: - Do people put screen protectors on touchscreen and lens screen? (It's my first GoPro so I wasn't sure what the trend was) - Can we use the touch screen underwater? - Is the GoPro Hero 7 Black safe to go straight into sea water for snorkelling as is (without housing)? Thx :)
Interesting. I've been running a mix of Yi and GoPro. Nice to see a product like this from GoPro after all the competitors like Yi beating them up on specs for so long. To me it looks gimbal like enough to not have to run a gimbal to get all your footage. I like to see some bopping about on chunky trails as opposed to that "riding on a smooth road" look the gimbal gets you.
After using GoPro Hero 6 for quite some time, I purchased Hero 7 almost five years ago (October 2018) and being then preoccupied with my Nikon 750D did not spend much time in delving into the full range of features of Hero 7. Then my DJI Mavic 2 Pro came along, and again Hero 7 was somewhat pushed aside. I am currently sort of "rediscovering" this small gem of an action camera and your very well structured and narrated video is a great help in getting to know my (old by now) Hero 7 much better. My original GoPro suction stand is showing some wear and tear de-coloration and a bit of surface corrosion in its metal parts, though I have *never* used it in, on or near sea water. But no worries, it is still fully usable and its plastics remain in tip top condition. Thank you (way too belatedly) so much for this upload. You have helped me a lot and made my video footage significantly more enjoyable both while shooting and viewing, especially in this mountainous area of southern Europe that I live in. Two thumbs up for your upload that remains very useful literally "in the long run". Again, thanks a million!
