Let me know what you guys think about the 'Try Hard Take Chances' t-shirt! I'm kind of in love with it! Also, anyone notice that the Hero 8 actually looked a little better than the Hero 9 at night? Interesting...
cool, I got hero8 and for now I have not decided to get a hero 9, (budget wise though :D ) but I agree for the settings at night, seems my hero 8 does more cool
Hey David, reeeeeally like the way you present all your videos, the music, the jokes, the faces, the humor, the tech stuff and you personal opinion on things. Also, started following you (subsc + notif on) about a month ago (even though I've been watching without subscribing, liking or commenting for over a year, something I decided to change) and started to watch your episodes with maximum 8 hours after you upload the vid, following your recommendation if I wanted to get prizes here. The result of all that? I enjoy my free time by having fun around here! Thanks mate! PS.: If you do decide to make a batch of those T-shirts, please remember this brother-from-another-mother right here, ok?! Warm regards, Mark Will.
Alright guys 1/48th of a second when shooting video Set white balance manually to 3000-4000K to have a bit more of blue Set ISO min 100 and max 1600 because anything above is unusable Don't use a lot of movement because GoPro at night sucks Saved you nine minutes, you're welcome
I'm a simple guy, I see David, I click. Plus that intro music just gets me jazzed up! Side note: tomorrow is my last day at this job as my department got closed down, so hopefully I get a good payout to get a computer to start editing and be the land-locked, Canadian prairies, version of our man David 😂😂👏👏
I appreciate the info, but as a new gopro owner I would of appreciated the step by step where to go on the gopro to make the changes you were talking about.
I did a video with the time warp mode and then did an intro in standard and the lighting in time warp was amazing and bright, the standard mode was just dark.
Just so nobody thinks they're getting short changed with the GoPros at night, just recognize that no camera shooting is low-light is ideal. All cameras need light. Just like our eyes do. When you think about it, our night-time vision is not that great either. Now do you see why cats, owls and wolves have such big eyes? "All the better to see you with...my dear."
There's one other thing you can change. I prefer to keep the iso at 800. You can break the 180 rule and match your shutter speed. Shoot in 30 fps, and set shutter at 30. This is a better looking image. I actually think motion blur looks more natural when you match be the fps, not double it. There are videos on RU-vid comparing this. Check it out
I’m not entirely clear what you mean, but yes it is “royalty free”. Many people think that “royalty free” means you don’t have to pay for it, but that’s a common misconception. “Royalty free” simply means that you have the right to use that music. By using Epidemic Sound, you don’t get any copyright claims on your RU-vid channel because you’re actually tied into their backend system. It’s super impressive 👍
I know in general filming at night just isn't the greatest, but I do a lot of night snowboarding (on and off of lit runs) so would you suggest any different settings given that fast movement will always be in play? Thanks for all of the detail in your video!
WOW very nice so I have Hero 8 and on Sunday going to drive and see Christmas Lights, going to try this. Also would it make sense if I make ISO MIN 1600 and MAX 1600? Or just leave it at ISO MIN 100 and MAX 1600?
There is no secret that GoPros are useless at night. Fiddle all everyone wants, but dig out that 2018 gimbal. You might as well walk around with your mirrorless camera. I use a Pocket 2 at night which is basically a drone camera on a gimbal.
Totally agree! Any camera with a small sensor is going to struggle in low light, but for some people that's all they have! So these settings will at least get them the best image possible👍
thank you, i only ever do low light! also... my personal saying is “everything is simple, but nothing is as straightforward as it seems”... guess which of us is the extrovert!
recently got the go pro. going out on a bike at night. having blur in my videos. gotta test ur settings now. i did 4k 24fps i think. shutter left in auto, so that introduced blur. gotta change it and try again. thanks.
I keep hearing about freezing on the gopro line for awhile now. How much does this happen and is it frequent enough to discourage buying this? Is there a setting that causes this to happen more?
Have you tried the NightLapse mode? Actually SUPER impressive for such a small sensor camera! But yeah, otherwise these settings are the best you can do
Good thing is that RU-vid have that +10 seconds video forward so I can go straight to the settings instead of wasting 9 minutes just to see the night mode settings. Good job RU-vid
I'm considering getting a DJI OM5 gimbal for my phone for moving night shots... between my insta 360x2 and my gopro9 they really just aren't ideal at night (like you said)... I'm thinking a gimbal might really help me with this...
Great channel, David. I appreciate your positive attitude. Your authenticity is easy to pick up on. Your channel is a little expensive though. My snap mounts deliver today. The Hero9 screen protectors deliver tomorrow, and the new tripod out of Europe should arrive this month, but that should solve the sinking problem with the GoPro Shorty. Thanks for putting up content that helps us Boomers! -Tom
what if you want to record a runningroute on a forrestroute on night that only have regular lamps at intervalls is this something that can be good for that to?
I don't think it's going to work well for that, but it might be your best option. For nighttime shooting, a larger sensor on a bigger rig is going to get you the best results, but a bigger rig for sure won't work for running. Yeah, I think this is your best bet!
This is stupid there is no SECRET !!! GoPro just sucks nothing new learned he basically said shoot at 24fps 1/48 and high ISO ... :( I'm really disappointed with this video, I thought that it might be some NR in GoPro or some codec but no just clickbait.
Beautiful shirt David and even more beautiful quote to live by! Also I wanted to say that I bet when the Gopro 10 comes out, I bet they will call it the "Gopro X" Huh? huh??? LOL Nice huh? If they call it that, I better get credit for the name... LOL!!! Hope you and yours are having a great time and staying safe!
I'll take a shirt! Shooting the POV of a dog at night with Christmas lights, let's see how this will look! Thanks again for this video! Taking chances!
Really like the channel. Subbed. But I Gotta say, "You're gonna regret seeing yourself in those stupid hats - especially backward - in a few years. Only boys wear baseball hats - especially backwards. Men just don't do that." -- I promise you that if your wife hasn't noticed the difference between you wearing the dumb hat and the man across the street, she will soon enough. Honestly, just ask her. She'll confirm. Don't be late to that realization. That said - Thanks for the awesome content, along the way!
NOTE: I just got a copyright hit on two video that I have rights to. Problem is I can't use their dispute process because RU-vid won't take my password and RU-vid's system to reset a password is not working PLUS it's impossible to reach someone with youtube, I've tried a dozen or more ways, so if you are someone out there knows how to get in touch with a human that works for RU-vid PLEASE advise. At this time I can't edit, delete or do anything with this video or my other via The Deitz channel .. Thanks in advance
Lol my man goes 3 minutes doing stupid cringe intros and talks about some cringe sponsor and then talks about a setting that would take 30 seconds to explain lol
So I'm a doordash driver. Trying to find a budget gopro camera to strap on my head when delivering. Mainly when I pick up the order and drop off that's it. Doesn't need to be the best of quality as long as you can see a house number and is good enough to maybe make a video. Can you change these kind of settings on budget cameras? Or is this only for gopros?
I love your help in letting me explore this new media capabilities. I would like a recommendation for editing the movies I make with my 9. I may purchase an 11 if it’s needed. I’m 72 years old and need software easy to use to make videos .
I will try your setting. I just bought the HERO9 and used it in my last race. My footages before dawn are noisy and blurry. Thanks for sharing your secret, bro.
Hello Sir David! I have a problem about shooting my hero9 at night (helmet chinmount) can you give me the best possible presets of hero 9 black but i want my base reso and fps should be 1080/60. I hope you will notice me! Thank you!
I know its a late comment that may never get read. After extensive testing, I wanted a preset that can traverse from bright daylight into dimly lit interiors. As stated in the video the GoPro will apply 360degree shutter causing too much motion blur and 1/48 is a good shutter, however if filming out into the daylight that shutter is way too slow, my work around/compromise for this is to leave shutter on auto and film at 60fps. this way I can shoot in daylight and when I go indoors the shutter is allowed to drop to 1/60. Yes I loose a little light compared to 1/48. If only GoPro had a setting for minimum shutter speed instead of locking the shutter when in manual mode.
That would be amazing for any of these action cameras to give us more control like that! For me, when we’re outdoors, I let the shutter be at auto, then when we move indoors I adjust the shutter speed manually to the 180 rule. Annoying to have to switch back and forth, but definitely helps with the stabilization!
Many Thanks for the tips! I've had mixed feelings about using a GoPro at night - Most videos I've seen on YT haven't looked that great, but every now and then someone posts a really nice-looking one that makes me wonder if it might be okay to try it. I'll hopefully be getting a GoPro in October and will try some night sessions using your settings :)
@@OrganicSoap77 Have used the GoPro quite a few times at night, and unless it's total darkness, the footage looks fine. I live/ride in a downtown area mostly, so there's streetlights and illumination from businesses pretty much all around.
Thanks for this video! Super helpful. I'm still using the Hero7 and something interesting happens at night-time shooting. Once I hit record, the video looks fine but before I do that, the preview shows a very blurry and out of focus video. So it's super hard to get a good preview of what I'm shooting with my settings. Do you know why it might be doing this?
But...... I am riding my mountain bike through the woods at night at speed with a lamp on my handlebars shooting with GOPro 9 - would love your guidance on this.
Hi David, great life motto on a shirt. I enjoy your videos. You give me confidence. Can you make a video on how to use GoPro 8 or 9 as a webcam? I tried to watch other presenters... sigh... Most left out the basic info. First I figured out that I had purchased GoPro without an sd micro disk. What can I say??? This is my first ever webcam purchase. My bad. ;) Then I found out, after much struggle, etc, that I had to upgrade to Windows 10. Okay I was in the dark ages. So two days of upgrading. So now I'm in the 21st century. Definitely a bonus!! Then I found out that I need to have a 3.0 usb cable, cause if you don't have one of those, all you get is the GoPro logo in Zoom. So I ordered one of those last night. It took me a long time to figure out that I needed the 3.0 cable. That happened last night. I remember at some point thinking... David wouldn't have told us this stuff, VERY simply!!! I actually did a search for David Manning GoPro as a webcam, and nothing came up. Maybe others are having the same trouble?? Oh and also... Thank you for the video about the Neewer accessories pack. I wanted a GoPro clip for my monitor. I knew the pack had one... now I have all the extra crazy stuff too. I already cobble a multidirectional mount on the monitor clip. It was very satisfying. Thanks again for making it simple. It gives me confidence.
David how can you take good pictures or vids of the night skies ?? All of mine are blurry or milky not at all what I'm actually watching??? Go Pro 9, Cannon and Android note 10 what I use. Has always baffled me
First, I do like the shirt. Second, I do plan on getting the Go Pro 9 as my first Go Pro. This will be primarily used for trips and vacations but for the low light settings I also have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. In your opinion should I simply stick to using my phone for those night time shots?
For photos possibly. Gopro strength is the video. Gopro 9 with the right night time settings works great but just like any thing you going to have to post process to get best results.
@@SamDukez what software would you suggest? Keep in mind this is for a novice. The more I get into it then I will expand but for now free is me (if available).
@@patcanning2861 I have used power director by cyber link then I moved to davinci resolve. Davinci is amazing but bigger learning curve . The pros is it's a one time purchase as opposed to subscription like adobe
Okay so I just watched your video and I'm basically hopping the presets to my 9 & 10.. I do have one question regarding hypersons now I know you said you leave it on but my question is on the 10 what level of hyper smooth do you set yours to if you have to leave it on? Boost, standard, high???
Love the video man I shoot test drive videos at night with my go pro hero 8 but 4k60fps and sometimes it looks way too dark. This video really helped me!
hi brother watching from philippines ! can i ask you a question regarding on hero 9 MAX LENS MOD.. i know hero 9 have max lens mod right? but max lens mod in hero 9 is it allowed to use taking a picture? ? or max lens mod is for video only? ASAP tnx brother.
Great video! Thanks for going into so much detail. What would be the best settings for filming with the GoPro inside a house at night (Lots of lights on/Christmas tree lights as well)?
These same settings should work great for you! Unfortunately, the GoPro don't have a lot of options when going low light. And even though it doesn't seem like it, indoors is still considered low light for that cam👍
